looking into the visual ideas through a sketchbook allows myself to generate a varied amount of ideas and cross examine my work into the most appropriate context. this enabled varied thought processes and identified a strong topic of ‘cockney rhyming slang’.
Picking the right paper stock was important to communicate the right message to the target
audience.

Using hands on processes such as letterpress enabled me to develop my understanding of technical skills and further my typographic skills for this zine project.

Incorrectly printing the zine pages above enabled me to take part in active failure in which was a learning curve in which enabled me to learn from my mistakes.
Using digital software such as Illustrator enabled me to create digital versions opposed to just handmade.

the zine ‘constant occupation leaves the third world torn’ is about the propaganda of contemporary and previous military interventions in third world countries and focuses on mocking presidents and governments in an illustrative way, which is drawn in a style also known as caricatures. this allows the viewer to perceive such a heavy topic in a more light and understanding way down to the fact that the style of drawings and the characters represented are much easier to understand than just reading an in-detailed text book that are usually found on this topic of discussion. the zine is also open to debate as it allows them to look at the political, social and ethical implications such a topic can bring on culture in today’s society.Click here for the full proposal

PO-LITICAL Introduction
� e design of ministerial boxes has changed little since the 1860s. Covered in red stained rams’ leather, it is embossed with the Royal Cypher and ministerial title. � e 2 or 3 kg boxes are constructed of slow-grown pine, lined with lead and black satin and, unlike a briefcase, the lock is on the bottom, opposite the hinges and the handle, to guarantee that the box is locked before being carried.
� e colour red has remained the traditional covering of the boxes. � e lead lining, which has been retained in modern boxes, was once meant to ensure that the box sank when thrown overboard in the event of capture.Also bomb-proof, they are designed to survive any catastrophe that may befall their owner.
Production of the red boxes cost between £385 and £750. Between 2002 and 2007 the British Government spent £57,260 on new boxes.
In 1998, a Whitehall initiative began to replace document boxes with an extensive intranet.
Exceptions to the red colouring are those carried by the government whips, which are covered in black leather. Discreet black boxes are also available for ministers who need to travel by train

throughout this semester for independent practice I will be exploring the topic of ‘shock’ through detailed research and informed practice which will enable me to develop a better understanding of where I would position myself and my work within the industry of Graphic design.From this, I will be trying to identify and broaden the existing styles that apply to the theme of ‘shock’ within the industry today and try to place myself in it by trying out new and exciting concepts which I intend to develop over this semester and may lead onto further development in future months.existing artists such as ’marcel duchamp, anthony-noel Kelly, marco evaristti & damien Hirst’ will be portrayed in my visual research as starting points of what I intend to do but may differentiate over time and development from studying this topic.

For the zines part one and two, I decided to pick the theme of ‘cockney rhyming slang’. this theme was meant to represent humour and was a very individual response to the brief that was created. From this, page layout was aesthetically considered to make sure the presentation was successful such as the terms of the cover in which used handmade processes such as letterpress and screen-printing in which enabled me to explore a broad depth of knowledge through the application of relevant application in which allowed me to progress with this and demonstrate this within ‘have a butchers’.exploring the redesign of the zine enabled me to thoroughly appraise another individuals zine within the class and clearly outline the plus and minus points of the publication design and my intentions of indicating a design response. this allowed me to progress with a strong graphic cover that worked well with the content and was influenced by red budget briefcase used in current society today.Furthermore, the editorial decision to use photo montage and to commission a professional illustrator (steve nyman) allowed me to further highlight my confidence within an editorial position and understanding what the brief fully intended to do as a role of a designer.
However further developing the idea of independent practice enabled me to further develop the topic of ‘shock’ within moving image. Using moving image was not only a challenge but also allowed knowledge of contexts, processes and technologies to support my evidence.From this, exploring the ideas of narrative and lens and manipulation within the main topics of oscar Pistorius and Jimmy savile allowed me to understand through application of knowledge through planning, ideas & generation and through many technical processes. the processes used within this body of work allowed me to experiment with a lot of different processes within one field of design in which enabled me to become confident within the field of videography.overall, time management for the whole of independent practice could be improved for the next year of study but learning from the mistakes that were made and documenting the experiments within a body of work allowed me to realize that moving image is something that I would like to forward onto my 3rd year and develop the topic of ‘shock’ much more due to exploring the idea thoroughly from this semester.
my intentions to extend this body of work during the next few months means that this will still be a continuing project in which has only been briefly explored through the notion of video montage and how mass media relations such as the news can affect how us as a consumer can simulate the ideas that are processed through a video in which will be divulged into more detail within the forthcoming future.
