India is a large country in Asia, with a population of about 1,200 million. Bombay is India’s major city, but New Delhi is its capital.

The currency is the Indian rupee.

Indian’s neighbours are Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, Nepal, Afghanistan, Burma and Bhutan.

It’s famous for its big mountain, the Everest.

INDIA

Hindi is the official language and compulsory subject in school. Some Indians don’t speak English, because they are not very wealthy and they do not teach it in schools.

Lots of people from Iraq and Pakistan live and work in India. In particular there are people from Russia, Nepal and Bhutan.

INDIA

There are also people from Africa and Australasia.
