    One of Asia's largest sewage treatment plants built at

    Bharwara Sewage Treatment plant in Gomti Nagar

    Lucknow .

    It is been design for the capacity 345 mld and extended in

    area about120 hectare land.

    The plants is basically based on the technology of up flow

    Anaerobic Sludge blanket Technology [UASBR]

    The plant is reduces Toxic level of waste water i.e reduces

    factor like as BOD, ph ,sulphide & fluoride contents.

    Work on the Rs 169 crore STP was started by Jal Nigam in

    July 2008 and originally, the project was to be completed

    within a year.

    UASB technology is based onAnaerobic process.

    3-phase seperation device is themost characteristics feature of UASBreactor.

    Wastewater flows upwards through a

    sludge blanket located in lower partof reactor, while upper part containsa three phase (solid, liquid, gas)separation system.

    It facilitates the collection of biogasand also provides internal recycling of

    sludge by disengaging adherent biogasbubbles from rising sludge particles. Superior settling characteristics ofgranular sludge allows higher sludgeconcentrations and consequentlypermitted.

    Screening is the first unitoperation used atwastewater treatmentplants.

    Pre-treatment is done insceens and grit chamber.

    Screening removes objectssuch as rags, paper,plastics, and metals to

    prevent damage andclogging of downstreamequipment, piping, andappurtenances.

    Grit is sewage consist of coarse particle of sand, ash and clinkers,eggshells, bone chips and many inert material inorganic in nature.

    Grit chamber consists of a cylindrical tank in which the flow enterstangentially, creating a vortex flow pattern.

    The effluent received after polishingpond will be disinfectant in chlorinetank with a dose of approx 5 mg/l ofchlorine gas dosing.

    The chlorine contact time has beenkept about 30 minutes .

    The chlorine gas is contact with thetreat the sewage and will be capableto remove the faecal coliform bychemical reaction.

    It is hoped that MNP will reducebelow 10000 per hundred ml by theapplication of chlorine gas.

    Pre aeration tank has been

    produced to aerate the effluent

    from UASB rector to release

    the trapped gases. Aeration will

    remove sulphide. The pre

    aeration may also be useful to

    change the anaerobic nature of

    effluent of UASB to aerobic.

    After the commissioning of 345 mld STP at Lucknow it is

    hoped at the Gomti river will get rid of pollution of wastewater of nallas that effect the health of Gomti river will

    improve with the increase of Dissolved oxygen in the river

    and not only the life of Lucknow will improve but also

    aquatic life will survive in Gomti, the life line of Lucknow.
