a grant of INR 7.5 crore towardsthe creation of corpus that will beused to promote indigenous artswhich includes music and danceof various genres, folk arts andforms, theatre, visual arts and rareand dying arts.

The corpus will be calledthe “Infosys FoundationEndowment Fund”, and will beused to promote and encourageart and culture in 11 statesincluding Maharashtra, Odisha,Rajasthan, Kerala, Gujarat,Andhra Pradesh andTelengana. The entire projectwill be managed and monitoredby BVB, Bengaluru, and BVBcentres and schools across thesestates will coordinate and managethese events.

This initiative is a keymilestone in the relationshipbetween the InfosysFoundation and BVB, whohave been working on severaljoint projects over the past twodecades.

As an experiment tointroduce the arts to the commonman, Infosys Foundation andBVB, Bengaluru, started the“Infosys Foundation-BVBOutreach Program” in February2015.

The program provided scoresof budding artistes an opportunityto showcase their talent and wasrun across the country fromTiruchi in Tamil Nadu toAgartala in distant Tripura.

The objective of theproject sponsored by the“Infosys Foundation EndowmentFund” is envisaged to preserveIndian art forms in their originalformat. With the onslaught ofelectronic media, traditionalIndian arts have lost their appeal, particularly with the youth.Exposing youngsters to these artsis as much an objective of thisprogram as is giving them an

opportunity to pursue the arts byproviding them a much-neededplatform to perform. This idea isto kindle the interest of youngminds in Indian performing andvisual arts, and carry it forwardfrom there.

The program will helpencourage new talent, especially among theweaker sections of society.

The Infosys Foundation hasundertaken several programs tonurture and preserve Indian artand culture, with a strong focuson the conservation of neglected

arts and promoting artist(e)sfrom rural areas and thosefrom underprivileged back-grounds. This is in keepingwith the core belief system ofthe Foundation that efforts at thegrassroots level alone will helpleave a lasting legacy of arts forfuture – generations.
