After last week’s rough start to the semester, I believe our students have all returned and are settling into
their classes. If you have students who are still involved with recovery due to hurricane Harvey, please
consider that as we move into the semester. It will be a long recovery and rebuilding process, and some may
still be displaced.
As I normally do this time of year, I’ve been visiting our classes to welcome students back to Aggieland, tell
them about the upcoming tailgate on September 30 and provide a little background on their professor for the
class. To date, I’ve visited 10 classes and I’m beginning to see some students two or three times, so it’s
probably time to quit. If, however, you want me to visit you class, please let me know and I’ll be there. Just
send me an email and I’ll get it scheduled.
Our Food Systems Industry Management degree program, with Biological and Agricultural Engineering and
housed in Nutrition and Food Science, is moving ahead of schedule. The degree will be offered here on main
campus and at the new McAllen campus beginning in fall 2018, which is one year ahead of schedule. Fred
Boadu and John Park will be on the multidisciplinary curriculum committee for this program. Thanks to
both of you for serving in this important role. One of the first things this committee is going to do is put
together some promotional/informational materials. As soon as that’s done, we will get the materials to you.
REMINDER: The Ice Cream Social has been rescheduled for Wednesday, September 13, 2:30 p.m. in
Room 301. I hope you can all be there! Thanks to the Commons Committee for organizing this.
Have a great weekend, and BTHO Nicholls State!
