master’s thesis grant for the second study year, at least 55 ECTS is
required to be passed during the first study year.
• NOTE: Study credits that are obtained with credit compensation (i.e.
if you have done a course during your B.Sc. studies the content of
which equals, or is closely similiar to WCE course content) based on
recognition of prior learning process (RPL shortly) are not included
into the sum of passed courses required by the terms of grant.
• CWC also offers training scholarship for summer internship after 1st
study year. See:• http://www.oulu.fi/cwc/node/17110

RESULTS FOR FRAUD & MISCONDUCT IN STUDIES
• If a student participates in cheating in exams (e.g. using mobile
phones, stored material, etc.), or preparing course exercise
reports e.g. based on friend’s reports (plagiarism) a hearing
report is always prepared for ITEE dean of education, and
punishment results.
• Students who have participated in misconduct in their studies
are not eligible for:• Paid (contract-based) training or master’s thesis topics (appr. 1375
Eur/month)
• CWC training scholarship (1500 Eur)
• CWC master’s thesis scholarship (3000 Eur)
• Doctoral studies at University of Oulu graduate school

WEB-BASED TOOLS TO HELP STUDYING
• UO offers several web-based tools in order to help students in
their daily studies & life, and to monitor their progress.
• You will get your personal PAJU userID & PW when
registering/enrolling to UO.
• PAJU account is needed in order to access all UO web-based study
portals/tools
• You will also soon get EE userID & PW from coordinator.
• It is required when using our own EE & CWC network for exercise
works in this building.
• Your student tutor will help you to enroll/register at UO student
services office in order to get PAJU userID & PW.
• Systems to be introduced next:• O365 → UO e-mails, MS softwares
• WEBOODI → personal study register & course/exam registration
• LUKKARI → web-based course calendar
• NOPPA → course homepages & info channel
• OPTIMA → stored lecture & exercise materials
• OodiPSP → personal study plan toolWCE Orientation 24.8.2016
12 (31)
YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESSES AT UO
• O365• Students will get their personal UO e-mail address & acess for
the Microsoft’s Office 365 for Education (O365) cloud service: http://o365.oulu.fi/.
• O365 will offer our students a free Outlook email, but also free cloud services like Office Online applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote), calendar and OneDrive.
• NOTICE: WCE staff will use only official UO addresses to contact you, i.e. they will never contact you with your private e-mail adresses (Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.).
• Format of official UO e-mail addresses designed to you are:• [email protected] (UO network & e-mail)• [email protected] (EE & CWC network & e-mail)
WCE Orientation 24.8.2016
YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESSES AT UO
• O365:• That’s why remember every now and then check your O365
and EE e-mail accounts in order not to miss important
messages from teachers, coordinator, officers, etc..
• Instructions how to get O365 access can be found from:
http://www.oulu.fi/ict/office365 .
• If this “computer jungle” sounds a bit obscure, just ask help
from your student tutors (Kummis), or from older WCE
colleaques!

WEB-BASED TOOLS TO HELP STUDYING
• WEBOODI• Student’s study-related info & history like contact addresses,
course & exams registrations, leaves, course marks, etc. are
stored there, i.e. everything about you since now.
• It is the most important system at UO, i.e., a ”mother” of all
student–related web-based systems
• Closed environment, i.e. PAJU userID & PW needed
• Course registrations
• Exam registrations & results
• Detailed description of courses and their schedule: number of
ECTS, prerequisites, learning outcomes, target group, timing,
contents, mode of delivery, learning activities, assesment
methods & criteria, grading, contact teacher
• You will soon create your Personal Study Plan (PSP) in Weboodi
environment• Shortly: OodiPSP is an e-document for the purpose of monitoring (by
yourself and your personal study advisors) your study progress

WEB-BASED TOOLS TO HELP STUDYING
• NOPPA• A one-way channel to share information from teachers to
students
• Home pages of all UO courses are located there
• Open environment, i.e. no UID & PW needed
• Course overviews
• News
• Coming events
• Timetable & room info
• Share of public materials by a teacher (if she/he wishes to
do so)
• However, all WCE materials are stored in OPTIMA system

WEB-BASED TOOLS TO HELP STUDYING
• OPTIMA• Interactive two-way channel for the purpose of
communication between teacher and student• Closed environment, i.e. all teacher’s materials &
communications are protected with PAJU UID & PW• Lecture, class-exercise, exercise work share, etc. pdf-
materials are stored there• Registration for courses also possible• Registration BOTH with WEBOODI AND with OPTIMA are
recommended • Your student tutors will help you to find and use OPTIMA.• Because there are several OPTIMA environments for different
faculties, choose the OPTIMA environment• After PAJU logging:
• Enter an environment: → Oulun yliopisto, TTK

CONFUSED ABOUT ALL THESE TOOLS?
• The most updated information of each course schedule is
always located in NOPPA and OTIMA. Follow them for
each course!
• Join also the first lecture of each course, because the
most important information is given on that lecture!
• Don’t worry! You will learn them sooner than you will
believe.
• Advice: Ask your student tutor, or your older WCE
colleague students. They will certainly help you.

PERSONAL STUDY PLAN (PSP)
• Electronic PSP-plan is created with OodiPSP tool
• A tool both for student and your personal study advisor
• PSP is a plan that includes the necessary choicesand timing in order to graduate
• How am I going to go through my degree programme?
• By using OodiPSP students will get an overall picture of their studies with both contents and timing
• Degree structure as starting point (i.e. curriculumn)
• Important part of PSP is study goals and following progress
• Video how to create your own PSP with OodiPSP tool(http://www.oulu.fi/oodienglish/node/19271)

A COUPLE OF THINGS MORE ...
• Many WCE courses are based on an assumption that
students have good background knowledge of probability
theory & stochastic processes.
• If you feel your probability knowledge needs some
refreshing, it is recommend, e.g., to take a look at the
following textbook:• Athanasios Papoulis: ”Probability, Random Variables, and
Stochastic processes”, McGraw-Hill Book Co.
• Your older WCE student colleagues may have paper or
electronic pdf copy of it. Ask them.

30 (31)
A COUPLE OF THINGS MORE ...
• Bring your original bachelor’s degree certificate & study
records certificate to Faculty of Information Technology
and Electrical Engineering (ITEE) student office as soon as
possible.
• You must show your passport and residence permit card
when bringing your documents.
• You will get a receipt that you have left your documents
at the faculty office.
• You’ll get your documents back within one month.
• Coordinator will inform you, when you can pick up them.
