Are You up To DATe?

Dairy nutrition has made great progress in balancing for protein and amino acid requirements over the

past 30 years, however many dairy operations still over feed protein by at least 7% as a “safety margin”.

Overfeeding can result in a 16% increase in urinary nitrogen excretion – waste

that no one can afford.

Swine and Poultry operations target low protein rations supplemented with specific amino acids. This

philosophy has allowed them to feed 15-20% less protein and reduce nitrogen excretion by 30-40%.

Adopting this approach with dairy rations is possible, but how do we ensure that we are meeting the

cow’s amino acid requirements?

ADvAncing Amino AciD TechnologY

2001 Research established that common feedstuffs do not supply sufficient digestible amino acids to

meet the needs of today’s high producing cows. Nutritionists and producers have focused on driving

metabolizable protein, lysine, and methionine levels. But WHAT’s NeXT? We are focusing on balancing

for the next limiting amino acid – that’s Gemini innovation.

Gemini Protein delivers a balanced amino acid profile that focusing on meeting the cow’s requirements

beyond lysine and methionine. Backed by 6 years of research, Gemini I has proven itself to maximize

cow performance when balancing for the next limiting amino acid.

Decrease total crude protein and your “safety margin” = Less waste and more profit.

Dairy nutrition focuses on TDN and CP vales. The importance of ration NEL DIP, and UIP is highlighted.

Research centers on MP and amino acid supply. Feeding Lys and Meth at 3:1 is suggested.

Cows require more MP than rumen mi-crobes can synthesize. Industry focuses on refining bypass protein sources and MP concentration.

Feed low protein diets that contain a complete amino acid profile. Balance for the next limiting amino acid.

Increases in milk protein %, 150 Day Milk, and 150 Day ECM with Gemini I further translate to increases in whole- herd efficiency and profitability per cow. Starting in 2007, average analysis of 15 field trials in 7 different states. Trial groups consisted of 2,804 holstein cows. Complete research results available upon request.

gemini proTein:• Practical for all ration/ forage combinations

• Efficiently feeding amino acids reduces nitrogen excretion, lessens environmental impact.

• Prevents over/under-feeding valuable nutrients

• Consistent quality through multi-stage analysis

• Target profile designed to meet the requirements for the next limiting amino acid

• Fed at 0.8 lbs. per head per day, provides 10% of required metabolizable protein

Producers and Nutritionists can reduce total crude protein and maintain high levels of production IF the

requirements for the next limiting amino acid are met; don’t over feed protein . . .
