Examples of subcommittee projects

• Sucrose Guidelines– HFCS– Liquid Sucrose

– Granulated Sucrose

• Microbial Test Methods

• TFRSC Thread Finish Nomenclature & Features Cards

• Cans-Secondary Corrosion Poster

• Cans-Stress Corrosion Poster

• CO2 Quality Guidelines

• Fountain Quality Guidelines

New subcommittees are formed to address emerging issues!

Page 16: ISBT Membership

The Carbon Dioxide Subcommittee was created to address and resolve emerging

quality issues related to contaminants

• In the 1990’s a series of CO2 quality problems related to contaminants resulted in product recalls around the world. The CO2 subcommittee was formed to develop global voluntary beverage standards and test methods.

• The CO2 global guidelines have been accepted by soft drink associations in Japan, China, Australia, Great Britain and the European Union as well as the Master Brewers Association of the Americas.

ISBT impacts the industry on a global level!

Page 17: ISBT Membership

The High Fructose Corn Syrup Subcommittee was created to develop common standards

within the industry to ensure quality

• High fructose syrup was a new sweetener in 1975 and no common standards existed for its use in the beverage industry. An ISBT committee developed the first set of guidelines to resolve sensory and quality issues that affected early users. Revised guidelines have been issued to keep pace with current issues and new technologies.

• The ISBT High Fructose Sweetener guidelines have been adopted in China where they are now part of Chinese government standards.

Page 18: ISBT Membership

The Packaging Committee was created to harmonize global standards

• The ISBT Packaging Committee works with bottlers and suppliers around the world to harmonize standards and test methods for packaging materials and closures. New standards are created and adopted across the industry.

• CEN, the European Commission on Standardization, recently requested permission to use the nomenclature standard based upon ongoing work of the Packaging Technology Committee.

Harmonized Packaging Standards = more efficient production.

Page 19: ISBT Membership

• The ISBT scholarship fund endows renewable one- year scholarships at selected universities to aid deserving students with interest in pursuing a career in the beverage industry.

• The ISBT is also dedicated to helping them find employment within the beverage industry after graduation.

ISBT created the ISBT Scholarship Fund to promote the technical and scientific aspects of the beverage

industry

The ISBT is a 501 (c) 3 Charitable organization.
