Water mains: Out with the old, in with the new!

Jamestown was awarded a $1 million dollar CDPHE grant for the water distribution system!

Water Progress:

New water main constructed - 90% complete New service line connections - 83% complete Structures* currently back on town water** - 52%

Emergency Asphalt Overlay - Duran crews will be working with the county to overlay Lefthand Canyon Dr. beginningAugust 18th. Kirkland is scheduled to begin work on James Canyon Dr. August 25th.

The Merc - Jamestown

Let's bring our community home.

Currently, there are no planned closures.

Road Work - Work continues on the roads in Jamestown as Duran finishes laying water lines and restores fill and grade. The Town is sending out road closures and delays regularly as we know the schedule or it changes. We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation during this critical time.

Private Property Debris Removal (PPDR) - Resurgence Demolition is set to begin taking down houses under the PPDR program beginning on Monday, August 11. Five structures will be demolished under this program.

Howlett's Gulch - Colt & Steel is nearing completion on the work on Howlett's Gulch.

$5 Million in CDBG Funding Available for Repairs and Rental Assistance: Applications are open now through August 15th. More Here.

HMGP Buyout Program - Buyout values have been determined and communicated to property owners. The Town's application is due in August.

The Jamestown Long-Term Recovery Plan - Marjo Curgus, expert planner selected by the town to help guide us through our own Long-Term Recovery Planning process, introduced herself to Jimtowners at the 8/5 community meeting. Watch for notices on the QT and the town's web site about how you can provide input to the process.

Andersen Bridge - Designs are underway. Construction is TBA.

Flood Anniversary Planning - If you would like to be on the planning committee, please notify co-chairs Rainbow Schultz or Erika Archer. Next meeting: August 18, 12:30 - Town Hall. (more below)

Rebuilding Efforts - MDS volunteers continue to work on various projects as they prepare to build seven houses with voluntary labor. (See below for more.)

Small Business Grant increase - Governor Hickenlooper announced an increase to the max grant allowable from $10K to $50K for Small Business flood recovery grants through CDBG.More here.

Fire Hall Update

While the Fire Hall is under

construction by Faurot Construction, a temporary

building will be raised next to Elysian Park for the engines.

This week, the MDS crew has been incredibly industrious. Since Jamestown Elementary school is starting back up on August 21, MDS has moved out of the school and temporarily into Deborah and David's on lower Main St. The long-term crew continues to live at the Craigo residence. They are currently repairing/restoring the Loupee family homes at 67 and 73 Main St. and will move volunteers to those locations as they become available.

More than 50% of the town now has water (unpotable)! 90% of

the main has been restored and one filter bed is functioning.

Town Square Update

MDS crew works with residents to raise the first big wall on the Stokes' new house!

Volunteers come from all over, this week the majority of the group was from Manitoba and Ontario, Canada, with some from Pennsylvania. Many residents have made incredible strides with MDS volunteer assistance. If you have funding for materials and need help with flood repairs, please contact Nina.

Jamestown will rebuild our Town Square in Spring 2015 with the

$117,000 (GOCO grant).

The Town Square is currently

being used as a staging area for fill material to be used for the

roads. Please give the machine operators plenty of space to

move these large objects and always make eye

contact before you attempt to move past them.

Hello from the Colorado Spirit

Canyons Team!

It has been a pleasure getting to know many of you. We feel very

privileged to hear your stories and talk to you about your recovery. As

we have moved through the summer, the rains have increased,

Flatirons Habitat for Humanity Flatirons will be the financial agent for the CDBG-DR (Community Development Block Grant) funding from the state for rebuilds. The rebuilds in town will be a combination of those who will be using CDBG-DR funding with volunteers from MDS and some homes will be self funded with volunteer help from MDS. We hope to break ground on the first home in September.

Flood Anniversary Open House - September 12th -

To commemorate the anniversary of the September 2013 flood, Jamestown will host several events for the community to come

together to reflect on the event and to imagine our collective future.

What: Flood-related displays by local artists, recovery slideshow, authors, gratitude, and the making of a labyrinth. Public welcome.

When: Friday, Sept 12, 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm Where: Town Hall, 118 Main St., Jamestown, CO

and so too have our anxiety levels. From our experience listening to

survivors of the flood, the increased rains commonly create

troubling memories and flashbacks of last year's flood, feelings of

being overwhelmed, a strong need to avoid places associated with

water or flooding, and-most commonly-just plain worry or

anxiety. If you are experiencing anything like this, it can be helpful

to try to reduce stress in other areas of your life. This can be as simple as eating healthy meals,

getting enough sleep, taking time to breathe, spending time with the

people you care about, and remembering to do something fun. Doing these simple things can give us a sense of mastery in the small things, and we enter a state that is

better equipped to handle the anxiety of increasing rain and

rising rivers. If you would like to talk to us about developing

strategies for dealing with stress and anxiety, we will continue to be

in Jamestown Town Hall every Saturday from 11:00 AM to

3:00 PM.

SPEED LIMIT CHANGE

Call to Artists:

As part of the Open House (see above) on Friday, September 12th, we will host an art exhibition in the Town Hall for any resident of the greater Jamestown Community to share a flood inspired work with the community. Works can include but are not limited to painting,

sculpture, writing, film, photography.

We invite you to consider displaying your work to inspire and share with the community during this momentous time. In order to

participate, you MUST register in advance, by August 23rd so that we can reserve a space for your work. Please contact Deborah Haynes or Nina Andaloro for more information or to reserve a

Planning Committee There will be several other private events for residents over the

course of the weekend. If you'd like to be on the planning committee, please feel free to join us at our next meeting on Monday, August 18

at 12:30.

Feeling Stressed? Anxious?

Anniversary dates of traumatic events can reactivate thoughts and feelings from the actual event, and survivors may experience peaks of anxiety and

depression.

Here are 4 things you can do that might help:

Recognize and acknowledge feelings you may experience. Understand that your feelings are part of the recovery process.

Find healthy ways to cope with your distress. Share memories and feelings with someone you trust or just spend time with friends and family. Activities that allow your mind to focus on something other than these memories are a good coping strategy

for some people. Contemplative activities like reading, thinking or just taking a walk are also a good approach. Avoid reactions that become part of the problem such as drinking or using drugs.

Engage in an activity that honors lost loved ones. You may want to plant a tree in their memory, make a donation to their favorite charity, participate in activities your loved one would have enjoyed or share happy memories with others. Consider volunteering; you may find that helping others actually helps you.

Use your support system. Reach out to friends and family. Don't isolate yourself.
