    16 & Over A great time to swim lengths, join a waterfit program or meet friends to revive & relax! Slide & spray toys open.

    Public 240’ slide, try it on your front, on your back, or on a tube! No length swimming available.

    Lengths & Lessons Need flexibility? Some lane swimming will always be available (# of lanes varies as lessons and rentals are also offered during this time). Sauna, steam & swirl open.

    FOR YOUR SAFETY:Children under 7 years of age must be accompanied by a person 16 years or older at all times in the pool. Minimum 1 adult for 4 children! Waterslide: Please be aware that the waterslide has a height requirement, and children must be 48” tall to slide!

    Change Rooms: Along with Men’s and Women’s change rooms, a Family change room is available for parents with little ones or for those who may require assistance.

    Parents: If your child has not “mastered” toilet training, we ask they wear a swim diaper while they are in the pool. Purchase a swim diaper at Reception.

    Diaper Dive 6 M – 2 YRS To complete this program parent and tots will be comfortable entering and exiting the pool safely. Bubble blowing, front and back floats and submersions will be taught through creative games and songs. Parent participation required.

    Little Learners 6 M – 2 YRSTo complete, swimmers will be comfortable floating on their fronts and backs independently. Must be comfortable performing jumps, bobs and rollover floats. Parent participation required.

    Twos in Training 2 YRS To complete, children will be confident participating independently, blowing bubbles, submerging, doing front floats and kicks with the teacher. Parent participation is required to ensure a fun and safe experience for students.

    Terrific Twos 2 YRS For those ready to participate without parents. To complete, they will be proficient with front floats, glides and kicks on their own. Prerequisite: Twos in Training.

    Yellow Seahorse 3 – 5 YRS For 3-5 year old beginners! To advance levels children will be at ease submerging and performing assisted front & back floats.

    Orange Jellyfish 3 – 5 YRSIndependent front and back glides are the focus! Children will be confident gliding and kicking independently on their fronts & backs before moving on to Red Snapper.

    Red Snapper 3 – 5 YRSDevelop front and back swims! Skilled doing front swims with big arms and back swims. Recovery to the pool edge in the big pool is required to advance to Maroon Starfish.

    Maroon Starfish 3 – 5 YRSStudents refine their front and back swims and continue to build confidence. Swimmers must be competent performing side glides, change of direction and deep water skills to complete.

    Blue Dolphin 3 – 5 YRSChildren demonstrate basic front crawl and back swims with shoulder rolls, kneeling dives and deep-water surface support.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVESSwimKids 1 30 MINFor school age beginners! To complete this level, children will be comfortable floating on their front and back. Glides with kicks will also be mastered.

    SwimKids 2 30 MINAdvancement determined by confidence performing front & back swims. Children will be comfortable with deep water activities.

    SwimKids 3 30 MINFocus on the front crawl in this level. Diving, change of direction and treading water are introduced.

    SwimKids 4 30 MINFront crawl, back glides and shoulder rolls are developed. Students must complete 25m endurance swim to go to Level 5.

    SwimKids 5 45 MINBack crawl is introduced, along with sculling and whip kick on the back. Stride dives are taught and endurance is increased to 50 m.

    NEW Lifesaving Rookie Patrol 45 MIN50m each of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke, timed 100 m swims, and 350 m workouts. A work-hard/play-hard approach develops strength and efficiency with emphasis on personal responsibility for WaterSmart® behaviors.

    SwimKids 6 & 7 45 MINContinues with front & back crawl. Basic rescue skills are taught and elementary backstroke introduced. Endurance Swim: 75m

    NEW Lifesaving Ranger Patrol 45 MINRanger Patrol continues to develop strokes over 75m. There is a 100 metre lifesaving medley and a 200m timed swim. Victim and airway management are the first aid topics for this level.

    SwimKids 8, 9 & 10 45 MINSuccessful swimmers will be proficient in front and back crawl and elementary backstroke. Breast stroke, rescue breathing and reaching assists are taught and endurance increases to 300 m.

    NEW Lifesaving Star Patrol 45 MINThis level demands good physical conditioning and lifesaving judgment. Continue to develop lifesaving, first aid skills, and swimming strokes. There is a 300m timed swim and 600m workouts.

    PRESCHOOL SKATING LESSONS

    LEARNING OBJECTIVESBoots to Blades 3-5 YRS A class for preschoolers with very little or no experience. Participants will gain the basic skills in a learn through play environment that is designed to meet their needs. They will learn the basics of ice safety and to stand and walk by themselves. All preschoolers must be toilet trained.

    Mites 3-5 YRS An introductory level class designed for children who have passed/or are capable of passing Boots to Blades. We offer a warm and friendly approach and a low ratio of participants to teachers. Little ones will learn how to balance, how to glide, the basics of backwards skating, stopping and cone patterns.

    Gnats 3-5 YRS Once your child has passed Mites, he or she is ready to learn the basic skating techniques. Push and glide with weight transfer, improved balance, confident stops, basic edges and crossovers, and more.

    Mosquitoes 3-5 YRS This is an advanced skating level for the accomplished preschool skater. They will learn improved stroking and gliding, advanced stopping, backwards skating, and improvement of crossovers and edge control. These talented little people are encouraged to extend their abilities with the wide variety of skills that are covered.

    LEARNING OBJECTIVESFledglings 6-14 YRSThis level is designed for the child with very little to no skating experience. Familiarize your skater with the ice environment and build confidence. Children learn ice safety, how to walk on the ice, balance, gliding, stopping, and how to skate backwards.

    Blue Jays 6-14 YRSThis level is designed for those with previous skating experience. Children learn basic skating including proper weight transfer, balance, confident stops, basic edges and crossovers. These “building block skills” should be mastered well enough to become ‘second nature’. Have some fun while learning.

    Kingfishers 6-14 YRSAn advanced skating level for participants to learn improved skating stoking, gliding, advanced stopping, backwards skating, improved crossovers, and edge control.

    Orioles 6-14 YRSThe skills learned in the previous levels are strengthened and advanced. Challenging ways of sculling, gliding, edges, and stopping are taught. This level is recommended for novice & intermediate level recreation skaters.

    Juan de Fuca Recreation centre invites three and four year old preschoolers and their families to join our dynamic preschool. We offer a fun and exciting program that runs September 2009 to June 2010. Our nurturing, safe, high quality preschool is designed to meet the social, emotional, intellectual and physical needs of children aged 3-5.     Rhythmic KindergymCombine dance, ballet, and gymnastics all into one with the use of hand held apparatus such as ribbon, hoop, ball, rope and scarves!     Junior Sportball 16 M – 2 YRSChildren and parents participate in sports, creative games, songs, rhymes, stories, bubble time and much more! Although these programs focus more on exploration, children will be introduced to a different sport each week (hockey, soccer, tennis, baseball, basketball, volleyball and golf ). Parents are encouraged to participate with their child and challenge them according to their skill level.

    Sportball 2-6 YRSSportball teaches children mentally and physically, helping them develop socially, through a curriculum designed to reinforce self-confidence, free of the pressure of competition. In a high-energy, fun filled curriculum, Sportball provides the basic concepts and skills behind seven popular sports: baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, soccer, tennis and volleyball. Programs focus on the development of balance, strength, coordination, stamina and timing.
