Once upon a time there was a beautiful sheep named Jazmin. She had the

prettiest wool in the entire school. She was very popular and all her sheep

friends wanted to be just like her.

Haba una vez una oveja muy hermosa, llamada Jazmn. Ella tena la lana

ms bonita de toda la escuela. Ella era muy popular y todos sus amigos

ovejitas queran ser como ella.

One morning, someone new and different joined the class. It was a little

goat. This is Mayra, said the teacher. She is a new student, so lets

welcome her. The sheep stared at Mayra as the little goat took a seat in the

back of the class. That is a weird looking sheep, Jazmin whispered to her

friend Laura. They both giggled.

Una maana, alguien nuevo y diferente se uni a la clase. Era una pequea

cabra. Ella es Mayra dijo la maestra. Ella es una estudiante nueva, as

que vamos a darle la bienvenida. Las ovejitas se quedaron vindola mien-

tras Mayra, la pequea cabrita, se sentaba en la parte trasera de la clase.

Esa oveja se ve extraa susurr Jazmn a su amiga Laura. Las dos se

During lunch, all the sheep took out their lunch boxes lled with delicious

foods. There were alfalfa salads, hay sandwiches and grass tacos. What isthat? Jazmin asked loudly pointing towards Mayras lunch. She had a tin

can with three little twigs inside. Your food looks funny!

Baa! Baa! laughed the sheep. Mayra was really embarrassed and put her

lunch away. She did not feel hungry anymore.

Durante el almuerzo, todas las ovejitas sacaron sus loncheras llenas de

deliciosas comidas. Hubo ensaladas de alfalfa, sndwiches de paja y tacos

de hierba. Qu es eso? pregunt Jazmn en voz alta apuntando hacia el

almuerzo de Mayra. Ella tena una lata con tres ramitas en el interior. Tu

comida se ve chistosa!

Baa! Baa! se rieron las ovejitas. Mayra se sinti muy avergonzada y

guard su almuerzo. Ya no tena ganas de comer.

At recess, all the sheep decided to play follow-the-leader. I will be the

leader as always. Jazmin said ufng her wool. I am the prettiest and the

ufest, so I have to be the leader.

En el recreo, todas las ovejitas decidieron jugar a seguir al lder. Voy a ser

la lder como siempre dijo Jazmn esponjndose su lana. Yo soy la ms

bonita y esponjosa, as que tengo que ser la lder.

Jazmin began placing the sheep in order one by one until she came to

Mayra. You will be at the back of the line because you are the smallest and

have no wool! she said.

But I am a goat, replied Mayra, Goats dont have wool. Jazmin thought

for a minute and said, You still should go to the back of the line.

Jazmn comenz colocando a las ovejitas en orden, una por una, hasta que

lleg a Mayra. Tu estars al nal de la la porque eres la ms pequea y

no tienes lana!" dijo ella.

Pero yo soy una cabra respondi Mayra, Y las cabras no tienen lana.

Jazmn pens por un minuto y dijo: Aun as, irs detrs de la la.

Mayra no estaba contenta de estar al nal de la la. Pero despus de un

rato, comenz a disfrutar del juego. Cuando Jazmn volteaba a la izquierda,

todos volteaban a la izquierda. Cuando Jazmn volteaba a la derecha, todos

los dems volteaban a la derecha. Cuando Jazmn salt, todos tambin

saltaron. Mayra comenz a brincar ms alto que todos los que estaban en

la la!

Mayra was not happy about being placed at the end of the line. But after a

while, she started enjoying the game. When Jazmin turned left, everyoneelse turned left. When Jazmin turned right, everyone else turned right.

When Jazmin hopped, everyone else hopped. Mayra began to jump much

higher than everyone else in line!

She was having great fun until she realized that all the sheep had stopped

playing and were staring at her. What are you doing? Sheep do not jump

like that! Jazmin said frowning.

But I am a goat and goats like to jump. said Mayra. And I am proud to

be a goat! she added holding her head up high.

You are weird and I am not going to play with you! Jazmin yelled and

walked away laughing. All her friends laughed too. Baa! Baa! Baa! Mayra

was really sad.

Se estaba divirtiendo tanto que no se dio cuenta que todas las ovejitas

haban dejado de jugar y la estaban viendo. Qu ests haciendo? Las

ovejitas no saltan as! Jazmn dijo frunciendo el ceo.

Pero soy una cabra y a las cabras les gusta saltar respondi Mayra. Y

estoy orgullosa de ser una cabra! ella agreg levantando su cabeza en alto.

Tu eres rara y yo no voy a jugar contigo! grit Jazmn y se alej rindose.Todos sus amigos tambin se rieron. Baa! Baa! Baa! Mayra estaba muy

triste.

On her way home from school that day, Jazmin was so busy ufng her

wool and telling the other sheep how beautiful she was that she did not see

the huge mud puddle in front of her. Splash! She fell right in! Oh no, my

beautiful wool!

Ese da, de regreso de la escuela a su casa, Jazmn estaba muy ocupada

esponjndose su lana y dicindole a las dems ovejitas lo hermosa que era,

que no se dio cuenta del enorme lodazal delante de ella. Splash! Cay

adentro! Oh no, mi lana hermosa!

By the time Jazmin got home, the mud had dried and her wool was matted.

Her mom had to sheer off the tangles and clumps. All her beautiful wool

was gone! Dont worry, it will grow back. said her mom.

Al llegar a su casa, el lodo se haba secado y su lana estaba enredada. Su

mam tuvo que cortarle todos los nudos. Toda su preciosa lana haba

desaparecido! No te preocupes, volver a crecer dijo su mam.

Jazmin was miserable. What were her friends going to say? They were goingto make fun of her. I look so ugly! she cried looking in the mirror.

It doesnt matter how you look on the outside, said her mom with a warm

smile. Your friends and I love you for who you are.

But I look so small and different like Mayra! Suddenly, Jazmin realized

how mean she had been to Mayra. She had teased Mayra for being different

and that was not right.

Jazmn se senta muy mal. Que iban a decir sus amigos? Se iban a burlar

de ella. Me veo tan fea!" exclam mirndose en el espejo.

No importa cmo te mires en el exterior dijo su mam con una sonrisa

clida. Tus amigos y yo te amamos por cmo eres.

Pero me veo tan pequea y diferente como Mayra! De repente, Jazmn

se dio cuenta que haba sido muy mala con Mayra. Se burl de Mayra por

ser diferente y eso no estuvo bien.

The next morning at school, all the sheep gathered around Mayra to make funof her horns. Your head is funny looking! Baa! Baa!

Stop that! commanded Jazmin walking into the center of the circle. Her

friends were shocked to see her.

You look like Mayra. said the other sheep.

A la maana siguiente en la escuela, todas las ovejitas se haban reunido

alrededor de Mayra para burlarse de sus cuernos. Tu cabeza se ve extraa!

Baa! Baa!

Ya basta! exclam Jazmn caminando hacia el centro del crculo. Sus

amigos quedaron sorprendidos al verla.

Te pareces a Mayra! dijeron las ovejitas.

Jazmin turned to Mayra and said, I am so sorry for making fun of you forbeing different. Can we please be friends? Mayra smiled and gave Jazmin

a big hug. From that day on, Jazmin and Mayra were best friends. Jazmin

had learned that it's okay to be different. Thats what makes each one of us so

special.

Jazmn volte hacia Mayra y le dijo: Disclpame por haberme burlado de

ti por ser diferente. Por favor podemos ser amigas? Mayra sonri y le dio

un gran abrazo a Jazmn. A partir de ese da, Jazmn y Mayra fueron las

mejores amigas. Jazmn haba aprendido que no tiene nada de malo ser

diferente. Eso es lo que hace a cada uno de nosotros ser alguien muy espe-

cial.
