TO OUR LADY OF VICTORY FAMILY & FRIENDS:As we all know, the 2020 Festival at OLV has been cancelled due to COVID-19 Safety Concerns. We are hoping and planning for our 2021 Festival under normal conditions. The Festival is a great community event for our Parish and all the neighbors in the Tri-Village Area – bringing people together for wonderful homemade food, fun and fellowship for everyone who attends. We are looking at some possibilities for other smaller events later in the year that will give us an opportunity to come together. If you would like to offer some suggestions about an event, please contact Jesse Oddi, Festival Chair and Facility Manager.

Please also remember all our known ill and elderly in your prayers. Because of COVID-19, “Unknown ill” takes on a whole new dimension. Please keep all the ill and those who are caring for them in your prayers during this time of “pandemic.”

ATTENTION MATURING ADULTS: GUARD YOUR MEDICARE NUMBER Scammers may use the COVID-19 pandemic crisis as an opportunity to steal your identity and commit Medicare Fraud. In some reported cases, they might tell you they’ll send a Coronavirus test, masks or other items in exchange for your Medicare Number or other personal information. STOP and REMEMBER… Medicare will never call you to verify your Medicare Number. For additional information, contact Medicare.gov or call 1-800-633-4227.

E-MAIL/PHONE SCAMS: This past week some parishioners received texts/e-mails purportedly from Father Metzger asking them to text/e-mail him back as he needed their help to get iTunes Gift Cards to give to hospitalized COVID-19 patients. Some parishioners received e-mails from St. Francis Center, McArthur, OH. THESE ARE SCAMS. Father Metzger, nor any other priests or OLV Staff members, would not communicate to you in this manner. These scammers are “PHISHING,” i.e., looking to get you to respond so they can “HACK” into your phones/computers to get your private information/access to your personal accounts/data. BEWARE! DO NOT REPLY TO THESE!

REQUIESCAT IN PACE: In the charity of your prayers, please remember parishioner, Tony Vannicelli, who passed away on Monday, July 13. Graveside Services were held on Thursday, July 16 in Dublin Cemetery.

Our Lady of Victory continues to follow the Diocese of Columbus Safe Environment Program which states all volunteers, age 18 years or older, are to complete a Protecting God’s Children session and have a background check (BCI&I Report) done prior to working with children. This includes programs such as VBS, Religious Ed, CLOW, Youth Group, Children’s Choir, etc. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the many people who volunteer so unselfishly in our Parish.

LIVE THE TRUTH AND BEAUTY OF GOD’S PLAN FOR MARRIED LOVE! Natural Family Planning Awareness Week, July 19-25, celebrates God’s vision for marriage and promotes Natural Family Planning (NFP). The dates of NFP Awareness Week highlight the anniversary of the papal encyclical Humanae Vitae (July 25), which articulates Catholic beliefs about human sexuality, conjugal love, and responsible parenthood. The dates also mark the feast of Saints Joachim and Anne (July 26), the parents of the Blessed Mother. Are you wondering why the Catholic Church promotes NFP? Visit http://www.columbuscatholic.org/natural-family-planning.

Part-Time Jobs available at St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store: Your St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store is hiring. SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JULY 19, 2020

FROM THE PASTOR• The dispensation from the Obligation to attend Sunday Mass has been extended by Bishop Brennan through September 13. It is also important

to note that if you are at risk because of age or other health factors or have symptoms of COVID-19, YOU SHOULD NOT BE COMING TO CHURCH. We have resumed our regular weekend schedule of Masses and daily Mass schedule. The attendance figures have been slowly increasing and we still have plenty of room for people to safely attend Mass – Sunday or weekdays. It is so good to see those who come and to see their smiles behind the masks! All who attend have been respectful of the safe distancing and sanitizing policies.

• Please note the first column of the bulletin for exact times of daily Masses as there may be variances. This week’s non-morning Mass will be on Wednesday, July 22 at 6:00 p.m., the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene. Attending weekday Mass could be a viable option for those wary of coming to weekend Masses because of the numbers. There are far fewer people in attendance at weekday Masses. This week, we will have our Holy Hour with Exposition following the 6:00 p.m. Mass on July 22, concluding with Benediction at 7:30 p.m.

• The 2020 Bishop’s Annual Appeal is beginning. The theme of this year’s campaign is “Living the Joy of the Gospel.” The inspiration for this comes from Pope Francis’ encyclical, Evangelii Gaudium, in which our Holy Father encourages us to share with others the source of our joy, which is Jesus Christ Himself. The theme is particularly poignant in this time of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is our faith in the Crucified and Risen Lord that has and will not only sustain us but gives us hope and joy in these challenging times. The Bishop’s Annual Appeal affords us the opportunity to support the many outreach and social concerns programs that the Diocese of Columbus offers, programs of assistance that no one parish could provide but joined together with the other parishes of the Diocese we can and do make a difference in the lives of so many who are suffering and in need. At the same time, by exceeding our 2020 goal significantly we can help our parish of OLV meet its spiritual and material needs. We exceeded our 2019 parish BAA goal by $40,377.00 in paid pledges. That check came to the parish at the end of March, just as the financial impact of the COVID-19 hit reducing our weekly contributions to one third of their average amount. As a result, we did not have to apply for the payroll loan program (PPP) offered by the Federal Government as did other parishes. Sadly, this surpassing of our parish goal and it’s resulting rebate was accomplished with less than 25% of the parish’s participation.

For the 2020 Bishop’s Annual Appeal, the Diocesan goal is $6,850,000.00 (unchanged from last year); Our parish goal set by the Diocese is $70,067.99. I am proposing that we set a higher parish goal for ourselves – 5-6 times the goal set by the Diocese. It is very achievable. OLV has approximately 780 households. If 400 members (50%) were to pledge a $1,000.00 (10 monthly payments of $100.00, OLV would have enough funds to compensate for COVID -19 reduced Offertory and secure our future needs as we approach our parish centennial in 2022 when, hopefully, the COVID-19 will be well in the rear-view mirror! N.B. in Column 1 that as of this writing, 8 parishioners have pledged $12,000.00, approximately 1/6th of the goal set for us by the diocese). Our parish goal is to exceed the diocesan goal by at least 700% so that we can meet the needs below:

What might some of those needs be?1. Stabilization of income, compensating for lost revenue from: Offertory (down 2/3 from pre-Covid); from last 3 Lenten Fish Frys (cancelled);

Parish Festival (cancelled).

2. Installation of a state-of-the-art video and audio system to provide high quality live streaming and recording of Masses and other sacramental celebrations for those unable to be present due to Covid or other impediments.

3. Funding for increased staffing in parish administration and youth ministry.

4. Installation of elevators in both the Church the Parish Life Center. When Father Romano had the PLC built and the church remodeled, he had the architects provide space/shafts for elevators to be installed later so that all areas of the parish facilities could be accessed. A goal for the centennial celebration (2022) of our parish: “Celebrating Our Past…Embracing Our Future” is to have total safe access by all to the parish facilities including the aged and physically challenged for whom access to Victory Hall and interior access to the upper and lower levels of the Parish Life Center which is not a present reality.

5. Mitigating a long-time persisting rain/ground water damage problem to the lower levels of the rectory and church. Achieving our parish goal is very doable. Not all can give the same amount. Some may be able to give more, others less. Remember that every dollar given to the BAA over the diocesan goal for the parish comes back to the parish 100% unlike what is given through the Offertory/Collection or bequests that is assessed at 6% by the Diocese for its operational expenses paid by every parish. The goal is not equal gifts but equal sacrifice which should be our approach to all stewardship offerings---time, talent & treasure. Please give prayerful consideration to your pledge for the 2020 BAA.

PARISH REGISTRATIONPlease contact the Parish Office to register or to change your address or status.

Parish registration consists of two parts:

Registration: Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be a part of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of the parish family. We are often asked to provide affidavits for parishioners’ standings. We can only do this if a person is a registered, active and contributing member in our parish.

Participation: As a member of your Parish, you are accepting the responsibility of weekly worship as well as supporting God’s work here through giving of yourself, your time and talents, and a worthy Sunday offering to show your love of God and your gratitude for His many favors and blessings.
