We leave no stone unturned, no molecule untouched when it comes to understanding the flavour impact of hops in beer. Our research is carried out in well staffed and equipped innovation centres in Europe (Paddock Wood, UK) and America (Yakima, WA).
We breed and analyse new crosses, evaluate the aroma and flavour impact of different varieties and products, measure their utilisation rates, search for optimal processing conditions and work on many other areas of interest. Cooperation with universities and research institutes is a key element in our endeavour to unlock the full potential of hops.

HARVEST PLANNINGWe measure key parameters for major varieties before harvest so that the optimal harvest date can be determined, and the brewing value of the crop maximised.
CONSULTING SERVICESWe collect vast information on plant development, typical yields, disease and pest susceptibility. This provides a great foundation for plant selection and husbandry. Know-how that we share with our growers.

TRACEABILITY OF ALL HOPS AND PRODUCT LOTS
Our IT systems allow comprehensive data storage and make it possible for hops to be correctly allocated to meet customer needs.
This means that all grower lots in any given product batch can be easily traced.
Reference samples of all hop and product lots are retained for at least five years.
THE MOST COMPREHENSIVE QUALITY CONTROL PROGRAMME IN THE INDUSTRY
All hops or hop products obtained from Barth-Haas are combined as composite samples in a standardised form and comprehensively analysed.
Only after the results of the analysis are made available, are hops released for processing and marketing.

BARTH-HAAS QUALITY MANAGEMENT
The HACCP report is an integral component of our ISO 9001 quality management systems.
The plant protection sheet is a Barth-Haas innovation and has become the established standard within the German hop industry. Similar spray records are being requested from all Barth-Haas suppliers worldwide.
Early forecasts are achieved through both close collaboration and exchange of information with the growers, as well as targeted advice from our skilled procurement experts worldwide.
Instances of pests and diseases are observed, documented and corresponding measures derived through the regular “Barth-Haas Hop Tour”, which visits selected hop gardens throughout all major growing regions.
