Dear parish family, As this bulle n goes to print, I am on a silent retreat at the Trappist Abbey of St. Joseph in Spencer, Massachuse s (one of my favorite places in the world). In place of my usual column, I wanted to share the following from Ascension Press on Catholic Funeral Rites. The month of November is a me the church dedicates to prayer for the dead and contempla on of eternity. On Monday November 11th we will celebrate Holy Mass for all those families who have lost a loved one from our parish this past year. Even though you may not have lost someone this year you are cordially invited to come and pray with these families as a sign of love and support and shared faith. Please keep me in your prayers!

How Catholic Funerals Secure the Graces We Need at Death
https://media.ascensionpress.com/2019/10/29/how-catholic-funerals-secure-the-graces-we-need-at-death/
There are two things that are said to be unavoidable in life: death and taxes. While the latter may be tongue in cheek, the former is something that we have many different ways of processing. When a loved one dies, we go through the emotions of grief and sadness, but then remember the
good times and look upon those memories with a bitter sweetness and happiness. But then there is another sort of dichotomy in the way that we, especially in the Western world, approach the subject of death.
There is the way that we look at death through the lens of the gospel, focusing on that happy day of the Resurrection of the Dead and the life of the world to come, and then through the lens of the secular world which focuses squarely on the here and now while (perhaps) giving a passing mention to a blissful existence somewhere far away from the material world. The time has come for us as Christians, especially Catholic Christians, to reject the lens that the secular world sees through, as this worldview has unfortunately crept into the practice of many of the baptized.

RESPECT LIFE MINISTRYY
Millions of babies continue to be aborted and our nation seems largely unconcerned. “My heart aches for America and its deceived people. The wonderful news is that our Lord is a God of mercy, and He responds to repent-ance.” - Rev. Billy Gra-ham, 2012 open letter concerning moral issues -
Your help is needed to enact the Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Act – on both the Federal and NJ state level. This legislation would protect innocent babies from enduring the pain of late-term abortion (20 weeks – or 5 months – post ferti-lization and beyond). Contact NJ legislators, and ask them to support NJ Bills A-3452 and S-2026. For contact information on legislators, and other ways to get involved, visit: http://babiesinthewombfeelpain.com/get-involved/ and www.stpaulrcchurch.org

* * * Our Next Respect Life Meeting will be held on Monday, November 18th at 7:30pm in the St. Paul Academy cafeteria. Feel free to stop in to see what the Respect Life Ministry is about! There are many ways to contribute -- whether it be from a position of “activity” or “prayer”. The monthly Holy Hour for Life on Monday, November 18th will take place following the noon mass, from 12:30-1:30 pm! This is a temporary adjustment due to the evening schedule in the church this month. The Holy Hour for Life will resume at the normal time, 6:30-7:30pm on Monday, December 16th.

Saint Paul Men’s Retreat ~ Enders Island, Mystic, CT
Directors – Fr. Patrick Adikwu, Patrick Mottola, Denis Mullins
We came to the very edge of the sea where nothing else needs to be said ~ the darkness was broken by the crash of the waves and we spent our days on the balcony of the sea ~ our hearts were open to the Lord and they were filled with the wisdom and inspira-
tion of Father Patrick and Pat Mottola. Wonderful music by Denis Mullins. A beautiful private island populated by Catho-lic men from Saint Paul. Through the Eucharist, prayer, reflection, meditation and fellowship we were touched by the Lord this weekend. We were praying for the people of Saint Paul, our families and the world. We reached a personal encounter with Jesus that stirred our hearts to stronger faith. Father Patrick’s witness inspired us to never again take our religious freedom for granted. Pat Mottola moved us to a deeper understanding of how the Eucharist manifests God’s unconditional love for us. Men, mark your calendars for October 2020 dates.

Third grade has been incorporating STEM builds into different subjects areas. Just recently, when discussing how people need to adapt to their environment, students attempted to build stilts for homes which are located near waterways. Students’ goal was to build a stable structure so homes would be off the ground and stay safe from flood waters.
