Issues and Trends Enrolment We have experienced a growth in the Logos program. It had 217 students last year and is currently at 243 students. That there is an 11 percent increase is hopefully an indicator that the program will continue to grow as it is now housed in one school. We continue to monitor the growth of our English program. It is significantly smaller than our Logos program and we hope that as the catchment areas for Joseph M. Demko grows, there will be a balance of numbers between the programs. (114 students in English and 243 students in Logos) Collaborative Response Model This model highlights diagnostic testing, Pyramids of Supports and Collaborative Team Meetings. We will focus on practices that individualize instruction. Common diagnostic testing assists staff in determining student needs. Collaborative Team Meeting (SSSS) sheets and Team Meeting note templates will also continue to be used to monitor student needs and track student learning. We will also development Pyramid of Supports for literacy, numeracy and social emotional growth as part of our mission to support students through universal, targeted and intensive supports. The implementation of literacy and numeracy support, enhancement of core instruction, and planning with the end in mind are all critical in the process of meeting each student’s learning potential. Collaborative Teams It is imperative that we continue to provide professional development opportunities for staff to enhance their practice and enhance the quality instruction to students. At Joseph M. Demko, we will continue to focus on literacy and numeracy by providing book studies and access to professional development, as well as time and support to integrate new strategies and programs. Grouping classes/students at Classroom Connect time for various learning activities will also allow for more diagnostic testing time as well as one-on-one and small group instruction in the areas of literacy and numeracy. Counselling Support We are committed to providing counselling services, social and emotional supports, special education coordination and community programming to better meet the ever-increasing needs of our students and community. The question is how to best address the expectations of parents of our students with special needs, English Language Learner (ELL) students as well as our Indigenous students in our inclusive education model. We have 30 students identified this year as ELL, 11 First Nations and Metis students as well as 68 students on an Individualized Program Plan and Individualized Learning Plan. Given the limitations in support, it is a challenge to ensure that these integrated students have their individual complex needs met in the regular classroom. New Teacher and Leadership Quality Standards Integration With the new Professional Practice Standards for the Teaching Profession and Leaders mandated for the fall of 2019, it is essential that teachers and leaders are familiar with the new standards. In order to gain an awareness of the new framework, it is important to review and provide professional development that supports the new standards that are outlined. We have reviewed the new document and are focusing on building teacher capacity in the area of Foundational Knowledge about First Nations, Metis and Inuit. We know that this professional growth will be ongoing as the new Leadership and Teaching Quality Standards impact our daily professional practice.

Objective 4: Implement STE2AM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Arts, Math) Learning Opportunities Key Strategies for 2019-2020: • Highlight why STE2AM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Arts and Math

Each station will include levelled interactive cards that include guiding questions for teacher and student use.

• Provide staff with the opportunity to experience these stations which will allow them to be cognizant of how each learning activity connects to their grade level outcomes.
