Once again, I am asking the parish community for prayers. This Tuesday, June 12th, I will be having my left hip replaced. This is last step for me in
getting my legs under me again. As you all have seen, I have been limping for more than four years. I thought that it was time for me to take
care of this issue.
As with the last surgery, I expect to be in recovery from at least 8 to 12 weeks. This process will involve a lot more physical therapy. In a sense,
I am looking forward to this process. One of my goals is being able to ride my bicycle again this coming September.
Both Fr. Jack and Fr. Chris will be taking care of the parish during my recuperation. I am confident that they will do an excellent job.
Again, please pray for me!

The cathedral is a treasure in a diocese and in our tradition. It is not simply a “big church,” as some say; some parish churches are larger. What makes a
cathedral is the presence of the chair, called a cathedra (Latin for seat) reserved for the bishop. There are many instances in our country of a local church (diocese) outgrowing a cathedral. In Baltimore and St. Louis, the former cathedrals are historic treasures in the
heart of the old city, but new and larger structures now function as the seat of the bishop.
When a bishop dies or retires, it is said that “the seat is vacant,” and when the new bishop is installed, the central ritual is the moment when the decree of the Holy Father is read and the new bishop is escorted to the cathedra. No one but the bishop sits in the cathedra during a
ritual, but in Los Angeles the cathedra in the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels is accessible, and no one seems to mind when a visitor tries the cathedra out for the bishop’s
point of view.

El mismo Jesús nos pide que nos neguemos a nosotros mismos (Mateo 16:24); que carguemos la cruz para seguirlo (Marcos 8:34); que
perdamos nuestra vida por su nombre (Lucas 9:24). Todo esto porque Jesús reconoce que el grano de trigo debe morir para dar vida, para multiplicarse (Juan 12:24).
El canto: “Una espiga dorada por el sol”, de Cesáreo Gabaráin, nos recuerda que los cristianos somos trigo del mismo sembrador. Es Jesús quien nos siembra, nos cultiva, nos
cosecha, nos tritura, nos amasa, y nos hace un solo pan consagrado a Dios. Somos granos de trigo que, unidos formamos el pan de la comunión que es comunidad. Para esto, cada
uno debe morir a sus egoísmos y preferencias. Morir a sí mismo tiene sentido cristiano, sólo si es para trabajar unidos y en la misión de Cristo, la cual es salvación del mundo y
construcción del Reino de Dios.

Una vez más, le pido oraciones a la comunidad parroquial. Este martes, 12 de junio, reemplazaré mi cadera izquierda. Este es el último paso para
que vuelva a tener las piernas debajo de mí. Como todos ustedes han visto, he estado cojeando durante más de cuatro años. Pensé que era hora de
que me ocupara de este tema.
Al igual que con la última cirugía, espero estar en recuperación de al menos 8 a 12 semanas. Este proceso implicará una gran cantidad de terapia física. En cierto sentido, estoy esperando este proceso. Uno de mis objetivos es
poder montar mi bicicleta nuevamente en septiembre próximo.
Tanto Fr. Jack y Fr. Chris cuidará de la parroquia durante mi recuperación. Estoy seguro de que harán un excelente trabajo.

miento, está en la Iglesia y se extiende en ella.
¿Por qué Renovación?Renovar” significa “volver a ser nuevos”, muchos hermanos tienen la inefable expe-riencia que sus vidas han cambiado por la acción del Espíritu Santo, y los renueva
permanentemente.
¿Por qué Carismática?Esta palabra proviene de carisma, palabra griega que significa “regalo” o “don”, caris-
mático es pues quien tiene algún regalo o don de Dios.
¿Qué es un grupo de oración?Son personas de toda edad, nivel cultural y condición económico social, donde todos se sienten hermanos en Cristo y lo esencial es la oración, a ejemplo de las primeras
comunidades cristianas.

Ponownie proszę wspólnotę parafialną o modlitwę. W najbliższy wtorek, 10 czerwca, będę miał moje lewe biodro zastąpione. To jest ostatni krok
dla mnie, gdy znów mam nogi pod sobą. Jak wszyscy widzieliście, kulałem przez więcej niż cztery lata. Pomyślałem, że nadszedł czas, abym zajął się
tą sprawą.
Podobnie jak w przypadku ostatniego zabiegu, spodziewam się powrotu do zdrowia od co najmniej 8 do 12 tygodni. Ten proces będzie wymagał dużo
fizjoterapii. W pewnym sensie nie mogę się doczekać tego procesu. Jednym z moich celów jest możliwość ponownego przejechania mojego roweru w
nadchodzącym wrześniu.
Zarówno ks. Jack, jak i ks. Chris będzie opiekował się parafią podczas mojego rekonwalescencji. Jestem przekonany, że wykonają świetną robotę.

Fund for Retired PriestsJune 2018
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
On the weekend of June 9 and 10, we will take up a special collection for the retired priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. It is an opportunity for all of us to support these good men and to express our gratitude to them for what they have done and what they continue to do. Currently, there are 217 retired priests. Throughout their ministry, they have stood by you as pastors and friends, celebrating your family’s marriages, comforting you in the loss of loved ones and lifting you up in times of trial.
Those, who are physically able, now continue to share their priestly ministry generously in our parishes. In fact, most our parishes benefit from their service for daily and Sunday Masses,
weddings, funerals, confessions, and other good works of the Church. Without their help, our parish life would be greatly diminished. Just as we have come to rely on the help of our retired priests, so
now they rely on our help to support and assist them in their needs. The care of our retired Archdiocesan priests is directed by the Priests’ Retirement and Mutual Aid Association (PRMAA).
The PRMAA manages the health care, prescription drugs, and nursing home care for retired priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the significant costs associated with this support. This June
collection is a separate and distinct effort from the collection for retired religious priests, sisters, and brothers that takes place in December. The PRMAA collection has a specific scope—your retired priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago and their care which is not covered by any other collection.
They deserve our support.
Join me in expressing our gratitude to these priests for their years of service and the continuation of their service into retirement. Pray for our priests who have died. Pray also for an increase of
vocations to the priesthood.
Finally, I want to offer a word of thanks for your generous support of our retired priests in the past. Your kindness has enabled us to do many good things for those who have served us so well.

Our annual baseball outing is scheduledfor Saturday, August 25, 2018. The Windy City Thunderbolts will play the Joliet Slammers at the Standard Bank Stadium (located near 140th and Cicero,in Crestwood, Illinois). The game will start at 6:05pm.
The cost of the ticket will be the same as last year, $35.00 per person, which includes watching the game in the Executive Suite. Food and drinks will also be provided. After the game, you will be
entertained by a spectacular firework show. Parking is not included and is only $2.00 per car.

members of the St. Turibius Parish Family, for your generosity. We at the St. Vincent De Paul Society asked for your help, and
you gave it, like you always do.
Once again this year, a very special Thank You to Mr. Edgar Quintero, his son Sergio Quintero, and all the members
of the St. Turibius Youth Ministry, who came out on both days to help us unload the cars and load the truck. We couldn't have done all this work without you, and we really appreciate your help, your smiling faces, your joyful attitudes, and your willingness to serve

PROMISESToday’s liturgy is full of promises. The reading from Genesis
promises a final triumph over the power of sin and a return to a new creation. The reading from Second Corinthians promises that
all who follow Christ will have to struggle. It also promises, however, that we can persevere if we but recognize that Christ is within us, renewing us daily, and giving us the courage and
the strength we need to endure. The Gospel promises that doing God’s will makes us “family” with Jesus, who forgives all sin and
triumphs over evil.
Today might be a good day for us to make some promises as well. We can promise to stop kidding ourselves about our own
tendencies to selfishness and sin. We can promise ourselves to believe—really believe—that while we are not sinless, we are forgiven. We can promise ourselves to combat evil and sin by acting as sisters and brothers not only to the Lord, but to one
another as well.

The St Turibius bingo is looking for volunteers to assist with our weekly bingo. Our bingo is an important fundraising
effort for our parish. We are looking for volunteers who are over the age of 18 and who are friendly and willing to help us once a month. Help is needed selling bingo cads, pull tabs
and helping our dedicated kitchen staff. I will personally guarantee that once you try it you will enjoy it.

Why Make Disciples
Thirty-six percent of Millennials claim no affiliation with organized religion. Of Millennials who claim to be Catholic, only 17 percent attend Mass on a weekly basis. However, this number
doubles when you look at Millennials who attend Mass on a monthly basis. Over the past 20 years, the parishioner base in the Archdiocese of Chicago has declined 25 percent, and further declines
are likely as younger generations replace older, more faith-focused generations.
In the past, Catholic young people grew up in a society that was very supportive of faith, and they grew into faithful Catholics through attendance in Catholic schools and regular participation
in the life of their parishes. Today things are different: faith is not trusted because it can’t be reconciled with science; people feel they can be spiritual without being religious; and regular
practice of faith is not prioritized by families facing so many time pressures. We can no longer assume children will grow into an active faith life but, rather, we need to identify new ways of
bringing youth to a new relationship with Jesus Christ and the Church.
Why Build Communities
Our parish and school communities today face a number of impediments to vitality—the parishioner bases of many parishes are very small; the number of school-aged children in areas has decreased; there is increased competition from charter and public schools; we have fewer
priests; many of our parishes are not sustainable to carry on the mission of the Church; and many parishes and schools have deferred maintenance for many years, resulting in unaffordable capital needs. We know resourcing alone is not enough to meet the needs of our times. Parish and school
communities that today are well-resourced and vibrant still face significant challenges.
*Our parishes must provide compelling liturgies that invite people to participate actively in Mass. *Our parishes and schools must provide true faith formation programs that move beyond
catechesis to form true disciples of Christ. *Our parishes and schools need to reach out to people and invite them to Christ rather than wait for them to come to us. *Our parishes and schools need
to become the field hospitals Pope Francis has called them to be.
Why Inspire Witness
Today’s times call us to put our Catholic faith into action more than ever before. The breakdown of the family, growing violence and lack of respect for human dignity, and the social ills of
unemployment, racism, and poverty all point to a world in need of witnesses to the compassion and redemption of Christ. We must follow Pope Francis’ lead and serve those in need.

Parish Mission Statement
We Believe that God is Love, and when we live in love we live in God and God lives in
us! Therefore we, the Parish Family of Saint Turibius, dedicate ourselves to living out
Christ’s Great Commandment: we will love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength, and we will show our love for God
by the way we love and care for one another. To this end, we will respond to our baptismal
call, strengthened by the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and empowered by
the Holy Spirit. As a Family of Faith that has an Attitude of Gratitude for the gifts God has given to us, we will share our time, our talent
and our treasure with each other. We welcome into our parish family all people, because we
believe that together we are the Body of Christ and together we can bring the love, peace,
forgiveness, healing, and joy of Christ into our community in ways we never could have if we were to remain apart. May all who meet us, who worship with us, who work and play with
