Dr. Shawn Armstrong Pastors Cell: (864) 309-4355 Pastors email: [email protected] Sharing the Peace and Love of Christ in our community since 1820. Pastors Corner Dear Tranquil United Methodist Church Member, As you know, regular worship was suspended due to the COVID19 pandemic in an effort to keep you safe and prevent the spread of this deadly virus. As of today, Greenwood has 103 cases, with 1 death. South Carolina has 9,895 cases and 425 deaths to date. The purpose of this letter is to keep you updated on the work of your Reopening Focus Group, which met 5/27/2020 via the internet to discuss the protocol for resuming worship at Tranquil. In that meeting, we considered the measures that we would need to implement for worship to resume at the present time. These measures include, but are not limited to: 1) The requirement of masks for those attending worship 2) Building preparation including closing buildings, limiting entrance points, marking off pews 3) Posting and disseminating educational materials regarding the spread of the virus and training staff 4) Insurance and financial considerations 5) Changes in the worship service (25% building capacity limit, no communion, no choir, no childrens moment, abbreviation of the service, changes in bulletin dissemination, changes in the collection, pulling of hymnals, requiring a sign-in sheet, no passing of the peace, and an emergency isolation plan for anyone who becomes ill or sick while on church property) 6) Disinfecting all surfaces before and after the service using CDC approved disinfectants In our meeting on 5/27/2020, it was unanimously decided that because of the overwhelming number of at riskparishioners at Tranquil, and the extensive requirements of reopening, worship will not resume June 14, as planned. The committee will meet again next Wednesday, June 10th, at 7 p.m. to reassess the local situation, and you will be updated. In the meantime, we would ask you to fill out the survey that you received in the mail and immediately forward it back to the church. If you require additional copies, please email the church office. Your quick response is important, and your ability to be patient and hang in there with us, paramount. Tranquil, please rest assured that, with Gods help and with Christs Spirit within each of us, we will work through this pandemic together. In the meantime, we would strongly encourage you to lift us up in prayer knowing that you are deeply loved by your Church and its leaders, but most importantly, by the God who created and sustains you. In Christ, Pastor Shawn EVERY DAY we have a choice. We can live in fear or move forward in faith. Billy Cox

Pastor’s Corner

Dear Tranquil United Methodist Church Member,

As you know, regular worship was suspended due to the COVID19 pandemic in an effort to keep you safe and prevent the spread of this deadly virus. These measures include, but are not limited to:

1) The requirement of masks for those attending worship

2) Building preparation including closing buildings, limiting entrance points, marking off pews

3) Posting and disseminating educational materials regarding the spread of the virus and training staff

4) Insurance and financial considerations

5) Changes in the worship service (25% building capacity limit, no communion, no choir, no children’s moment, abbreviation of the service, changes in bulletin dissemination, changes in the collection, pulling of hymnals, requiring a sign-in sheet, no passing of the peace, and an emergency isolation plan for anyone who becomes ill or sick while on church property)

6) Disinfecting all surfaces before and after the service using CDC approved disinfectants

In our meeting on 5/27/2020, it was unanimously decided that because of the overwhelming number of “at risk” parishioners at Tranquil, and the extensive requirements of reopening, worship will not resume June 14, as planned. Tranquil, please rest assured that, with God’s help and with Christ’s Spirit within each of us, we will work through this pandemic together. In the meantime, we would strongly encourage you to lift us up in prayer knowing that you are deeply loved by your Church and its leaders, but most importantly, by the God who created and sustains you.

CDC When and How to Wash Your Hands

Handwashing is one of the best ways to protect yourself

and your family from getting sick. Learn when and how

you should wash your hands to stay healthy.

Key Times to Wash Hands

You can help yourself and your loved ones stay healthy by

washing your hands often, especially during these key

times when you are likely to get and spread germs:

• Before, during, and after preparing food

• Before eating food

• Before and after caring for someone at home who is sick with vomiting and diarrhea

• Before and after treating a cut or wound

• After using the toilet

• After changing diapers or cleaning up a child who has used the toilet

• After blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing

• After touching an animal, animal feed, or animal waste

• After handling pet food or pet treats

• After touching garbage

Follow Five Steps to Wash Your Hands the Right Way Washing your hands is easy, and it’s one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of germs. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout an entire community—from your home and work-place to childcare facilities and hospitals.

Follow these five steps every time.

1. Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.

2. Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.

3. Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.

4. Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.

5. Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.

Stay safe!

In the United States, D-Day is celebrated in remembrance of the brave soldiers who landed on the beaches of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944. These American and Allied soldiers, some of which were killed in action, fought to liberate northwestern Europe from Nazi occupation and bring an end to WWII in Europe (4,413 men died so that freedom wouldn’t).

Dad

He never looks for praises

He’s never one to boast

He just goes on quietly working

For those he loves the most

His dreams are seldom spoken

His wants are very few

And most of the time his worries

Will go unspoken too.

He’s there….A firm foundation

Through all our storms of life

A sturdy hand to hold to

In times of stress and strife

A true friend we can turn to

When times are good or bad

One of our greatest blessings,

The man that we call Dad.

Happy Father’s Day

To all of the Fathers who take on a fatherly role; who love as much as any father could…
