Dear Faithful of All Souls, This Sunday we return to the Gospel of Mark, after having read through the Bread of Life Discourse from the Gospel of St. John. Our Lord has strong words for the Pharisees and scribes, who overemphasize the keeping of human customs at the expense of the law of God, calling the Pharisees and scribes hypo-crites. Indeed, it is a temptation for anyone who stays with a practice for a long time to be-come comfortable and complacent, perhaps giving more emphasis to the idea that “that’s how we’ve always done it” rather than being open to the living Word of God. I will be preaching about this very topic this weekend, and I ask you all to remain open to the Holy Spirit with regard to our sacred Catholic cus-toms. This week we began once again our par-ish catechism programs, the school children on Monday nights and the adults on Thursday nights. I continue to encourage you and all oth-er people of good will to please consider at-tending the adult classes in person or online. The information can be found at our parish of-fice. There will be a food sale after the Sun-day Masses this weekend, which helps the par-ish and encourages community life. Please stop by for some delicious food before leaving to rest at home. If any of the other groups wishes to take part in an occasional food sale, please contact the parish; we would be happy to have additional help and varied menus. In the coming weeks, we will begin to open formally the process of choosing a parish council, which should be reflective of the actu-al community. Now that we have been together for more than one year, since the closing of Holy Trinity, it is time to choose candidates to serve in this capacity. Please be looking for an-nouncements regarding this important task, and please pray about whom you might propose as a candidate for this post. As ever, please count on my prayers and sacrifices for you, dear friends.

Oh Mary, Queen of Confessors and Queen of All Souls, pray for us!

FESTIVAL UPDATE

As COVID continues to impact our communi-ty and the world, the Festival Committee out of an abundance of caution has decide to change the plans for the 44th Annual Parish Festival scheduled for the first weekend of October.

Like in 2020, the festival will be held in a drive thru format on Sunday, October 3 from 12 noon until 5 pm.

Plans call for a Roast Beef and Chicken din-ner and a Hispanic dinner. The raffle with $6,000 in prizes and the Quilt raffle will be conducted. The Ad Book is also being com-pleted and will be distributed with the meals.

More details are still being developed. Please watch upcoming bulletins for more details and for information on purchasing dinner tick-ets.

NEXT PLANNING MEETING 7pm - Tuesday, August 31st
