Power from the Ocean….right out the back door!
Rep. Cynthia Thielen (Kailua-Kaneohe Bay)
Happening now! Energy made by WETS (Wave Energy Testing Sys-
tems) is being sent to Marine Corps Base Hawaii from two devices off of Kaneohe Bay.
One more device is expected to join the site in 2017. The Navy and Marine Corps are testing
different wave-energy conversion technologies that connect to the grid at a wave-energy test site
(WETS) approximately 2.5 miles from shore.
I have been a longtime proponent of wave energy and believe that this technology is necessary for
the State to reach its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2045. Wave power is the most powerful
renewable resource we have, and Hawaii is one of the best locations for it.
Congratulations to MCBH and the Navy for making wave energy a reality for our island state!

Kalāheo Cross Country
22 members of Kalaheo's XC team participated in the Family Promise 5K Run on August 20th. This organization
aids Hawaii's homeless. Kudos Kalaheo Harriers!
It was also a good opportunity to get a snapshot of where the team is as we head into the 1st meet at Kalani on Sept. 3 and
run against nine other OIA schools, including perennial contenders Kaiser, Kalani and Roosevelt. Overall, the team did
well and was led by senior Avery Torres, #1 finisher in the race and our 1st girl finisher, Miyuu Handa.
It is going to be a fun and competitive season. The boys are gearing to defend the OIA title and the girls are
hungry to get their first OIA title since 1993. Come support your Kalaheo XC Team:
