ANZAC Day – Thank you
2019 Narromine ANZAC
day was, as always,
extremely moving. The
pride and united spirit was
very evident as was the
respect and compassion for those who serve
in our armed forces, in our local support forces; police, fire, rescue and ambulance and within our school and
community organisations. To be a small part in a country community ANZAC service is an honour. Thank you to the
students and staff for participating with such reverence and respect. Thank you to the parents for encouraging and
cheering the NPS contingent on as we marched past, and supporting your children to be part of our wider community
fabric.
3C – Community Canteen Connections
This term our community team is focusing on building the school
canteen “Tastebuds” bank of volunteer parents while cooking weekly
items that will be available for sale by our 3C team at recess and lunch.
Mrs Louise Craig and Mrs Kerrie Walden will be working with our parents to strengthen our connections, develop new
skill sets and build new friendship connections. Thank you to Mrs Annie Caines for assisting in our 3C project.
Term 2 Staff Changes
Last term we farewelled two staff members on maternity leave, Mrs Atchison and Ms Seve – both have had their
babies and we have welcomed two little boys into our school family.
We are also welcoming back Mrs Webb following her maternity leave. Mrs Webb will be working with us two days per
week for the remainder of 2019. On Tuesdays and Wednesdays Mrs Webb will be facilitating reading supports across
K-2, while Mrs Wrench will continue reading supports and teaching as our Librarian. Mrs Craig transitions into the role
of Community Teacher from her original position of Librarian.
Unfortunately, we are farewelling Miss Griffiths on 5/6G but welcoming Ms Hall
and Mrs McCutcheon onto the Stage 3 Team. Mrs McCutcheon will be teaching
5/6G on Thursdays and Fridays, while Ms Hall will be teaching the class on
Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and continuing in her K-2 EA4S support
role Thursdays and Fridays.
Updating contact details
A reminder that if you change your contact details it would be appreciated if you
can contact the front office as students can become quite distressed if parents
and carers can not be reached when needed.
NO DOGS AT SCHOOL
While we love animals
at NPS, it is kindly
requested that dogs are
not brought onto the
school grounds for the
safety of all our
students and staff.

NAPLAN
A reminder that NAPLAN commences next week and we have published a number
of supports and tips as part of our Kalori content in Term 1. Thank you to Mrs
Emma Smith for coordinating this year’s adventure, the preparations for 2019
NAPLAN online have been smooth and well communicated due to her consistent,
calm approach. The team feel confident our students will do their very best and
shine as inquisitive learners. Best of luck to the students in Years 3 and 5. We are very proud of all our students, their
achievements and their ability to be creative thinkers.
NAPLAN Online features tailored testing
From 14-23 May students in Years 3 and 5 will participate in NAPLAN Online. One of the main features of the NAPLAN
Online format is that it is a tailored (or adaptive) test. The tailored test provides a more precise assessment of your
child’s performance in the areas of reading, language conventions (grammar, spelling and punctuation) and numeracy
by adapting to responses. As your child progresses through the test, questions may be easier or more difficult, to
better assess his or her ability. Your child should not be concerned if he or she finds the questions more difficult than
expected – the pathway may be more challenging.
Many of the same questions appear in both paper and online tests, but not every student doing the online test will be
answering the same questions in the same order. Your child’s NAPLAN results and scores are based on the number
and complexity of questions he or she has answered correctly. If you have any questions about NAPLAN Online, please
contact your child’s teacher.

Peer Support
This term our Year 6 leaders will be implementing the Peer Support program across K-5. Students are in mixed age
groups and the Year 6 leaders present lessons on building positive relationships and friendship. Our first lesson was
last Thursday and it went very well. The students love being taught by the Year 6 leaders and it is a wonderful
opportunity for Year 6 to learn about managing time, being a positive role model and group dynamics. Peer support
will occur every Thursday up to and including Week 8 of this term.

PBL
Easter rewards
There were plenty of Easter bunnies and
eggs on offer as students who achieved the
top two levels (blue and red) in our PBL
(Positive Behaviour for Learning) system
were rewarded with tickets in the school's
PBL reward raffle. There was much
anticipation as students waited for their
names to be called and a lot of satisfied
students who were able to enjoy their
reward for a job well done. Keep up the
great work students.
PBL News
Welcome back to Term 2 at Narromine Public School. It was very exciting to see all the students returning with great
enthusiasm and ready to participate in productive learning experiences. Our aim at NPS is to establish and practise
consistent whole-school responsibility for following established rules and routines that demonstrate Respect, Honesty
and Responsibility. This is to ensure all students are provided with a quality education that is free from disruption and
provides a safe and productive learning space where all students feel included.
Over the fortnight students are learning about how to show RHR while in the playground and using the equipment.
Students are expected to be responsible by using manners at all times, speaking nicely and including others. They show
responsibility by being in the right areas, walking on concrete, putting rubbish in the bin, wearing a hat, lining up when
the bell rings and waiting for a teacher before they access equipment. Being honest means students stay in the
playground, talk to the teacher if there are any issues and wait their turn.
Just a reminder to all students and parents/carers that the equipment is not to be accessed before or after school by
anyone as it is not supervised, so your cooperation with this school expectation is appreciated. Also, if students are
ordering fruit for Crunch and Sip remember it must be collected at recess or before school as students are not
permitted to leave the classroom during class time.
To achieve BLUE level this term, students are required to have 228 points and for RED level 216 by Thursday Week 10.
Also, there will be stage rewards during week five for those students who have achieved 100 points. Well done to all
those students who have received Super Vals for exceptional behaviour in the playground, teachers are always on the
lookout for students who are demonstrating RHR. RHR, That’s who we are!’ - PBL Team

Maths Matters
Here are some ideas and activities
for building and encouraging your
child’s literacy and numeracy skills.
3/4E Maths in action
In 3/4E we are focusing on data. As
a class we are looking at column
graphs on different topics and
answering questions from that data.
We are also creating our own
column graph on our favourite pets.
The students have been enjoying all
this maths so much we are now
creating a booklet about our
favourite ice cream flavours. The
booklet will demonstrate multiple
types of graphs such as a tally table,
a column graph, a pie graph and a
picture graph. Our most popular ice
cream flavours are vanilla and
sherbet.
Family Literacy Challenge
Get a family team together and have a go at the fun challenges to be in the running for a $10 canteen voucher. Make
sure you get your entry in the bright pink box in the foyer at the office. To collect the prize you need to make sure you
have one name of a family member per entry.
Week 2 – Adjectives. Adjectives are words that tell us more about a noun eg: The big brown dog. Big and brown are
both adjectives.
Challenge - List as many adjectives as you can that describe a park. You may go for a visit to a park for some inspiration.

Sport
Cross Country
This Friday students will be competing in our school
cross country carnival. All students aged 8 years and
over (including students in Year 2 who will turn 8 in
2019) will participate in this carnival. This carnival will
be at Rotary Park starting at 11:30am. Students in
Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 (7 year olds) will be
participating in tabloid activities and games also at
Rotary Park during this time. Please ensure that
students bring a bottle of water and a hat on the day.
Parent support and cheering is very much welcome on
the day.
Athletics Rotations
There has been a change to the starting date of our
athletics rotations. Our athletics rotations will now
begin on Wednesday of Week 4. An updated rotation
schedule will be available soon once all dates are
confirmed. These rotations are in preparation for our
Athletics Carnival in Term 3. Students will complete
these rotations in the age group according to the age
they turn this year. Like cross country, all students aged
8 years and over (including students in Year 2 who are
turning 8 in 2019) will participate in these rotations. If
students are away during one of the rotations and wish
to trial, they will need to come and see me so I can
organise for them to catch up the event.
NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge
The Premier’s Sporting Challenge includes a range of initiatives with one common purpose – to have more students,
more active, more of the time! The challenge aims to engage young people in sport and physical activity and
encourages them to lead healthy, active lifestyles. The Premier’s Sporting Challenge provides an opportunity for our
students to log time spent in a range of sports, movement and recreational activities during lunchtimes, school sport
programs, class time, after school or weekend physical activity. Our school has registered all our classes in the 10 week
challenge which commences in Week 5. We would welcome your support in encouraging your child’s participation in
this exciting program. Students will be given time in class to log their time spent on physical activity.
Students that complete the challenge receive an individual, personalised certificate from the Premier of New South
Wales. Sport is a valued and accepted part of our school curriculum because it contributes to the development of the
whole child. It provides a vehicle for a number of social, physical, emotional and moral learnings and is an important
expression of our culture. Participation in sport and physical activity is generally promoted for its positive impact on
childrens’ physical and mental wellbeing. Both formal and informal sport arrangements help young people to
communicate, develop resilience and interact with others in a fun environment.
For more information on the Premier’s Sporting Challenge website please visit
https://app.education.nsw.gov.au/sport/psc We look forward to working with you to support the healthy growth and
development of your child. Kristie Mackay - Sports Co-ordinator

WSSA Rugby League trials
NPS had six students trialing for the WSSA
rugby league trials at the end of Term 1.
Tom Dennis, Connor Daley, Fraser Gill and
Lukas McLauchlan played very well in the
three trial games for the U11s squad
against 125 of the best rugby league
players in the Western region, with
Connor, Lukas and Fraser making the
possible and probable teams. Jonah Moss
and Jaxon Stanford took on the open age
trials against some very tough opponents.
Jonah was successful in making the open WSSA team and will now play in the western team state carnival.
Peachey Richardson Shield
NPS had a successful day at the Peachey
Richardson rugby league gala day in Dubbo. The
Stage 2 team played three games and showed
massive improvement in each contest. Peter
Wilson and Jacob Ryan-Clarke impressed with
their efforts in all three games. Cobi Hutchinson, Nick Brassington and Charles Edwards made
a number of sound runs. Talen McNamara, Harry Wells and Marshall Leese-Caines tackled well
throughout the day.
The Stage 3 team won their three pool games allowing them to advance to the semi-finals where their winning streak
came to an end. Tom Dennis, Lukas McLauchlan and Jonah Moss were the best players in all three games with quality
defence and attack. They were well supported by Jaylin Donnelly, Connor Daley and Travis Brassington with many
great runs. Fraser Gill, Jaxon Stanford, Callum Hutchinson and Jack Wilson contributed throughout the day.
A huge thank you to Dane Burns, Kenneth Edwards, Jamari Clarke and Larry Kelly from the Narromine High School
Contarf Academy group for their assistance with coaching throughout the day.
Rugby Union 7s
NPS played three games
at a Rugby 7s tournament
in Dubbo at the end of
Term 1. They were
successful in drawing in
their first game 3-3
against St Mary’s where Tom Dennis was able to show his experience with his rugby skills. Jonah Moss and Fraser Gill
both scored length of the field tries. Jaylin Donnelly and Lachie Warren were strong in support in both attack and
defence. In their second game Narromine defeated St Mathew’s 4-2. Lukas McLauchlan proved strong in this game
with some powerful runs and tackles. Connor Daley and Fraser Gill were dangerous with the ball. Tom Dennis and
Callum Huchinson worked hard in the middle of the field and Jack Wilson ran well to support the rest of the team. As
winners of the pool games the team played Dubbo Public in the semi-final which proved too strong running in six tries
to nil.
