Amanda Turnbull – Assistant Principal
It was my great pleasure to announce the recipients of Gold
Level for Year 6 at last week’s assembly. This level represents
the dedication of students to achieving their best, both
academically and in social pursuits at school. Students that
receive this award have maintained blue level and gone above
and beyond in their capacity at school to contribute to the
well-being of others. They have demonstrated commitment to their learning and other initiatives around the school
and always presented themselves in a respectful and responsible manner. I would like to extend my congratulations
again to the students that have received this honour. They will be presented with their awards at our upcoming
Presentation Day Assembly.
Parents of students in Year 4 and 5 may also have received notes home recently regarding our Bronze and Silver
Level awards. As with the Gold Level award, students in these respective grades have
maintained their blue level behaviour over the year and completed additional
applications in the case of Silver Level. We will be presenting awards to the students
who have received Bronze and Silver Level at our next whole school assembly,
Monday 20 November 2017 at 2pm. I hope that you will join me in celebrating this
special achievement with these students.
Just a reminder for families with children due to start Kindergarten in 2019, we will be
running a Kindergarten Transition program next year. Children will attend one day per
week and it will run from February 2018, providing an extended period for students to
become familiar with the school setting and transition plans to be developed as
needed. A meet and greet has been held with parents who have already enrolled their
child into this program, but if you still wish your child to attend you can put your
child’s name down with our front office staff. (68894566)
If you are aware of students that are not currently enrolled at our school and will be
starting with us in 2018 please contact the school to organise their enrolment, and if
you are aware of students that are not returning in 2018 (except for our current Year
6) please let our office staff know.
Dates for the Diary: Students will be finishing this year on Friday December 15 2017.
The school will be having two pupil free staff development days on Monday and
Tuesday 18 and 19 December (Staff only). Students (Years 1-6) will return to school
Tuesday 30 January 2018 with a pupil free staff development day being held Monday
29 January 2018. Kindergarten will be completing their Best Start testing on Tuesday
and Wednesday the 30 and 31 January 2018 (notes to come home at the
end of this term) and will start at school on Thursday 1 February 2018.
Reports will be coming home at the beginning of Week 9 (Monday 4
December 2017) and an opportunity for interviews will also be made
available (notes to come home soon).
Please keep an eye out for notes coming home as there are many exciting things happening in the remainder of the term. Three of our NPS Leadership Team did a wonderful job representing our school at the community Rememberance Day service.

Three photos are requested for the display – one from their early years, one preschool aged and a recent one.
No late photos will be accepted due to the time it takes to produce the display.

Stage 2 Cultural and Sustainability Excursion to Warren
On our excursion to Warren, Stage 2 (Year 3 & 4) and teachers went to
Windows Of Wetlands (WOW Centre) and Beemunnel (Aboriginal
Reserve). We travelled on three buses. When we arrived there, we
were greeted by Danielle Flakelar (National Parks and Wildlife), Tom
Carney (Aboriginal Elder), Dr Bill Phillips, Bill Johnson and Keith Redman
(Warren Aboriginal Lands Council). We were also lucky
enough to have some family members of children in
Stage 2.
After we were introduced to our guides, all the students
sat and ate their recess. After recess, we were split into
three groups to begin our journey of learning about
wetlands and the local Aboriginal history and culture.
One group was learning about the wetlands, the second
group was learning about totems and the types of
paintings that tell stories and the third group was
learning about the river catchment systems and its
inhabitants. All the groups rotated through each of the
activities.
At the wetlands, we learnt that the reeds clean the
water. There are three layers of reeds - tall, medium and
short. The cleaning process of the sewage starts with
the tall reeds, then the medium. The short reeds are the
last part of the cleaning process. The short reeds look
like mown grass.
These wetlands are also used for bird-watching. The
bird-watchers observe the behaviour and frequency of
birds visiting the area. The more birds that visit indicate
that it is a healthy wetland environment.
At the Aboriginal Reserve Beemunnel, we saw a sacred
tree. There were signs in places where families lived.
There were lots of native trees such as salt bush. Also,
we heard stories from families who lived there as small
children. The river runs through the reserve and
Aboriginal families used this for
catching food as well as water for
drinking. They also used it for
swimming when it was hot.
While we were looking at the
river we noticed that there was
an abandoned canoe on the river
bank.
Stage two students and teachers
would like to thank the
abovementioned people who made this excursion possible as it was a great learning experience. - 4W

Partly Cloudy
Gus was a very different kind of cloud. Gus was a dark cloud compared to the other
clouds. Gus had a friend named Peck and he was a stork. Peck helped to get the
animals off Gus.
Gus could make himself into shapes. First Gus made a crocodile, then he made a
goat , then a porcupine then a shark.
But then Peck the bird flew to one of the other clouds and Gus was sad. So Peck flew
back to Gus and he stopped crying and cuddled Peck and gave him a bag with a
sting ray.
Then Peck said goodbye.

Back to school
Once upon a time there was two friends. One was called Spy Fox and the other was
called Dr Hammer. Spy Fox and Dr Hammer where good friends. One day, Spy Fox
took Dr Hammer’s bubble suit off and Dr Hammer got really angry at Spy Fox . Dr
Hammer wanted to rule the world, and he didn’t really need a bubble suit.
When Dr Hammer got older he built a laser to destroy all the countries so fish can
swim where ever they want but Dr Hammer had some help. His sardines helped him
destroy the world but in the end Spy Fox stopped him.
THE END - By Dane
The Last Astronaut
Three, two, one blast off! Dumbo was off into space.
Bang! Dumbo was flying, flying so fast he was knocked out, and then the space ship
got blown up.
Eight years later Dumbo was carving out stars for a living. Each day someone died,
so every day Dumbo was carving out stars.
One day he heard a big bang and he went out to see what it was. There was a
spaceship, so he asked if he could return to Earth. They said yes and he went back
down to Narromine. When he left space he was paid for his hard work carving out
stars for 90 years. He got so much money it added up to be a trillion dollars. He
retired and lived on Earth as a famous star carver and continued to earn heaps of
money.
