Design Challenge: Design and build a chair that will help children with autism be more comfortable in a classroom setting
Interview with early intervention autism specialist to define key issues, and determine design goals.
The chair allows children to calm themselves or be more alert through a bouncing motion. The chair also provides calming through movable arm rests that allow children to play with them.

Concept StatementThe Witherill Restaurant, Liquid Space, & Hostel will be a tensile establishment, in which the spaces and environments will be malleable, not only in appearance and design, but also in function. The guests will be provided with a kit of parts that allows them to stretch, to be molded, and to learn about themselves so they have the capability to expand in their own ways.

The Swiss “Army” Box is constructed out of 2x wood framing with concrete floor slab and it has a green roof that collects and filters rain water for the use of the house. The exterior enclo-sure consists of fixed and moveable panels that allow for expansion outwards.

The tragic event of the Triangle Factory Fire has provided a legacy that still survives today. While signage, fire codes, labor laws, and improved working conditions are often taken for granted; they only came about at the cost of 146 lives. Most were immigrants and young women, and, in an effort to commemorate them, we propose that their names live permanently in a canopy to be viewed from the sidewalk of the Brown building. By day, light permeates the canopy and projects the names onto the surfaces below; while at night, warm artificial lighting illuminates them.
The slogan of the fire’s 50th anniversary, “THEY DID NOT DIE IN VAIN” embodies the idea that the victims of the fire will never be forgotten. The building stands as a silent witness to the devastating event, and our memorial on the façade reveals and pays homage to its past.

Shirtwaste Fire | Competition
Team Project | my role: original design idea, autocad, stencil overhang mock-up
Design Intent: Create a monument to the Triangle Shirt Waste Fire that includes all the names of the women who died.
The design features 3-D letters on the building facade that cast unique shadows during the day and are back-lit at night. A small overhang with stencils of the women’s names is also included. The overhang is lit to cast shadows of the names of the women lost in the fire on the lower building facade and the sidewalk, making the names more tangible for friends and family of those lost in the fire.
