!What an extravaganza! Our whole school musical performance A Musical Extravaganza was a fantastic success. Our children were splendid in their performances of the various musicals and were dashing in their costumes. They relished the opportunity to demonstrate their artistic abilities to our broader school community. Thank you to our families and the community of Kootingal for your continued support of our students and school. Thank you also to the staff of Kootingal Public School who worked tirelessly with our children to ensure they were at their best on the night. With lots of hours sewing, cutting, pasting and painting in preparation for our performance, is it little wonder we are all a little blurry-eyed this morning. Well done to all involved.

!!The gold coin donation from the musical is supporting the “RU Aware, We Care”. This is a joint initiative of 88.9FM and Tamworth Regional Council with the support of the Wests Entertainment Group, Salvation Army Tamworth, CWA, Tamworth Business Chamber and the NSW Farmers Association. All donations will assist farming families who need a helping hand from the New England Northwest Region. From our musical performances, Kootingal Public School raised $763. Thank you! !Our Come & Try Program for Kindergarten 2019 commenced with great gusto. Working with Mrs Chegwyn, this week the children participated in a Book Week-themed afternoon making treasure boxes. All sorts of boxes were treated with lots of bling, or as I told the children, diamonds, with washi tape used to great effects also. The Come & Try Program is designed for all children intending to enrol in Kindergarten in 2019, regardless of school. The program orientates children to school and to the Kindergarten setting, as well as helping develop social skills, gross and fine motor skills, literacy and numeracy skills necessary for a confident and smooth start to school life. !

!At the start of Term 4, our Kindergarten Bright Stars Transition program will commence. This program is designed for students intending to commence Kindergarten at Kootingal Public School. All days will be advertised throughout long day care and pre-school centres and through our normal means of communication. !!!

!All students K-2 are invited to attend the stage production Josephine Wants to Dance. This excursion is kindly subsidised by the KPS P&C. Permission notes are due to school with payment Wednesday 5th September 2018. !Congratulations to Alexander Cracknell who received a Credit in the recent ICAS writing assessment. Both Luke Sydenham and Raymond Sydenham received Participation certificates. It was a difficult topic and one that required a great deal of thought. Well done children. !Good luck to Liam Jarrett, Naomi Maybury, Mia Stokes and Alexander Cracknell as they compete next Monday in the regional final of the Premier’s Spelling Bee at Westdale PS. !

!All the best to our Open Girls Softball Team as they compete in the regional final of the Softball Knockout on Monday. Our game against Perthville PS will be a difficult one, but I know how hard you have prepared for the game with many training sessions and practice games both during and after school. Good luck Ms Cook and thank you to our ever supportive parents. Go Kooty!

!!Good luck to our students competing at the Tamworth Zone Athletics carnival this Friday. I know you will represent your school, community and families with great pride. Go Kooty!

Very soon, Kootingal Public School will commence the process for the election of the 2019 School Captains. There are many stages of contact from the school to families advising them of the process for the election of the School Captains. The first letter families receive briefly explains the process for the

election of our School Captains. The next letter, families will receive notification outlining the timeline for this process. It is important to note that this is an election for School Captains and the Vice Captains only. The election of the Student Representative Council (SRC) members will occur in 2019. !Our Parent Teacher Interviews are fast approaching and again we are conducting interviews over the two weeks (two Tuesdays – 18th and 25th September) between 4 and 6pm to cater for families and their increasing demands. Parent Teacher Interviews are a wonderful opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher. We spend a lot of time with our children and we are always willing to talk with you about your child and the progress within the classroom. This time, Kootingal Public School is trialling a new system of booking interviews. It is through the website School Interviews. This will allow families to book directly with the teacher rather than wait for confirmation. Interviews are only made using the website address www.schoolinterviews.com.au and the event code 9tje3. This will allow families to see the available appointment times for their child’s teacher. Students received notes this week outlining the new process. !Often throughout the school year, schools are questioned regarding the nature of inquiries into the attendance of students. Students are required to attend school each day it is open for instruction. On days when students are absent, explanations must be provided by a parent or carer. In the department’s attendance policy there are a set of procedures that follow called Student Attendance in Government Schools – Procedures. In these procedures, it states the principal or delegate will undertake all reasonable measures to contact parents on the same day or following day of an absence where parents have not contacted the school. Contact may be made by means such as providing the parents with an Absentee Notice-Compulsory School Attendance, by telephone, email or SMS text message. !At Kootingal Public School, we notify families each day of absences via SMS text message. This is a convenient service for families and one that is time efficient for our school. However, when replying to an absence text message, it is important to state the reason for the absence. Replies of ‘because she is’, ‘family reasons’ etc are not satisfactory explanations. When these reasons are provided, families are notified and the absence is recorded as unjustified. !Throughout the remainder of this term and next, there will be weekly segments outlining absence procedures. As a result, everyone will be aware of the requirements and how to respond accordingly. !We have an increasing amount of children wishing to leave class early to change for after school activities. While we support and encourage active pursuits, children participating in sporting or other recreational activities after school must change their clothes after school, that is after 3:30pm. Children are not permitted to leave class early to do this. !If you have any questions regarding explanation of absences or the changing of clothes after school, please contact me during school hours.
