!Our yearly magazine Koolangarra is available through pre-orders with payment of $25. We will only print the number of magazines for which we have received money. The cost of the magazine this year is $25 due to an increase in printing costs. It is in full colour. Families will receive their magazine prior to the end of the year. Orders and payment are taken at the front office before Monday 26th November. There will be no late orders. No orders will be taken on Presentation Night as the magazine will have already been sent to the printers so it is ready before the end of term.

!At times, students are late to school. This could be due to medical appointments prior to school hours, car troubles and the like. This is just a part of life and, at Kootingal Public School, we understand this. !When students arrive late to school, it is important they have an explanation for this absence. More often than not, our students are accompanied by their parent or family member to assist with this explanation. At times, some students arrive with a note of explanation. It is important we have this explanation as all absences, whether it is a full day or partial, require an explanation. !If you have any questions regarding attendance please contact me during school hours. !!This week, Kootingal Public School continued its focus on resilience. In this week's lesson, students played a game of matching the face to the emotion. Students will focus initially on others' emotions then their own. As the term progresses, students will examine their emotions, situations when they felt this way and give it a rating. Mrs Cracknell !!!Today was the final day of transition for our 2019 Kindergarten students. It was a lovely day with our families and our children are ready for school. Our Year 5 buddies were champing at the bit to learn of their buddy for next year and to help them throughout the day. We hope our students enjoy their new library bags, book, pencils and their portfolio of work completed over the past five weeks. We are looking forward to seeing you all in 2019. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. !!!!!!!

!Well done to our captain group who led our school in the Remembrance Day service last Thursday. They then followed up with a lovely service in Tamworth on Sunday. Our Captain, Jack Chapple, was invited to recite the prayer for the service and was presented with the picture book In Flanders Fields by Brian Harrison-Lever and Norman Jorgensen for the school’s library. Kootingal Public School also had a small but significant number of students participate in the mass choir for Sunday’s service in Tamworth. If you haven’t already, check it our on our Facebook page. There we have an album of the school service, photos from Sunday’s service and a video of Jack’s recitation. Thank you to all students who continue to remember all servicemen and women during this time. !

!!!This week our students continued their work with Dr Bricknell on the mechanics of writing. Each and every time Dr Bricknell comes to our school, the students can’t wait to work with her. She is also particularly impressed with the progress of the children. At our staff meeting, all classroom teachers examined the data from the first writing task. This data will assist to form longitudinal data on writing for our school. All children across years 2-6 complete the same writing task during the same term each year. This allows the school to track both individual student growth and year group growth across this period. As demonstrated with some of our Year 6 students, the data we gain from this process is invaluable, not only for reporting, but ultimately teaching and learning. From this conversation, we have now set our professional learning agenda for 2019 in writing. !Our Girls Softball team is in the media this week in preparation for the finals series in Sydney. To check it out go to our Facebook page for the Northern Daily Leader article. Our girls are super excited for the finals series and are working hard both on and off the field. !!

Page 4: Kootingal Public School STAR NEWSLETTER · Thursday 15th Nov - Gruffalo’s Child - KL, K/1M, 1B, 2P, 2/3S Monday 19th Nov - Captains 2019 Speeches Tuesday 20th Nov - P & C Meeting,

!This week our students in K-2 are attending The Gruffalo’s Child. This is the second theatre production for our students in K-2 with them attending Josephine Wants to Dance last term. Students in K-2 have studied this picture book as a part of their classroom program prior to the theatre production. It will be wonderful to hear the conversations from our children about the differences and similarities when they return. Attending theatre productions is a part of our cultural initiatives and we are proud of our P&C who support this initiative whole-heartedly. We want all children to have the same opportunity to experience theatre. !This week we announced our candidates for the 2019 School Captain elections. It’s a momentous occasion to go from being a nominee to being a candidate. The speeches for the candidates are scheduled for Monday 19th November at 9:30am. Voting by students and staff will occur immediately afterwards. Good luck to all candidates. !!!!!

!

!Next week is our final assembly for 2018. This is always a special moment for our Year 6 students as it is an opportunity for them to say some goodbyes to our community. We have less than five weeks of school left and high school is nearing. Our hosts are KL and 5/6M are performing. The assembly commences at 2:30pm Thursday 22nd November.

29th November 2018

Parents please note Book Club online orders through LOOP need to be finalised before 29th November as online ordering will be closed by 12noon on the 29th November to be able to have orders processed with the school orders. Thank you Mrs Dunn
