A construction in ront o loors is a special variation to

oer a solution or improved thermal characteristics o

a building. For oices and residential buildings in

premium-priced cit locations, or example, this

construction tpe is ideal. B moving the insulation in

ront o the loor, an optimal solution is provided which

minimises thermal bridges. So heat loss is kept to a

minimum in winter and there is a more comortable

indoor climate in summer.

Application: low-rise buildings

Low-rise buildings with rain-proo cladding (glass, wood,

brick, ibre composite, vinl etc.) still require a weather-

proo substrate. This wall construction option provides

a reeze-thaw-ccle proven and non-combustible A1

building envelope under ventilated cladding sstems.

It uses AQUAPANEL Cement Board Outdoor

Climateshield (8mm) as the backing board or long-term

moisture and wind protection and is suitable where there

is no direct weathering rom driving rain and where

The Allianz Arena in German is a powerul exampleo the versatilit o the KNAUF AQUAPANEL

The Allianz Arena is a construction between loors.

The substructure is sandwiched between 2 laers o

Knau Fire-Rated Gpsum Board built on Knau CW

100 proile with mineral wool inside and 2 laers o

AQUAPANEL Cement Board Outdoor on the outside.

Here the architect, Herzog & De Meuron, Switzerland,chose a special membrane produced b 3M to inish

the building. A comparable structure was used b the

same architect to create the National Stadium in Beijing,

China, also colloquiall known as the Birds Nest.

Promenadeben, Odense, Fn, Denmark

The Promenadeben project eatures exclusive water-

side apartments in Odense Harbour. A prime

requirement was that the aades should be able to

resist high wind speeds and high moisture conditions.

This was due to the height o the buildings and the

wind actor, in combination with the high humidit

conditions o the harbour.

The speciication o aade walls which combined a

SBS steel rame sstem with a KNAUF AQUAPANEL

Exterior Wall resulted in a secure and slim construction

with the high thermal insulation needed to meet the

stringent Nordic energ consumption building

regulations. Slotted proiles were used to minimise

thermal bridges. The drlining solution has also

maximised the eective area o the building particularl important in expensive waterront areas

where the demand or accommodation is ver high.

Villa Akarp, Malm Ring, Sweden

This is Swedens most energ-eicient house:

a plusenergihus which the owner claims will actuall

generate more energ than it consumes. During the

construction phase, consideration was given to aspects

such as insulation and thermal bridges, windows,

air tightness, ventilation and energ consumption.

The house is on one and a hal levels and built witha double timber ramework. It has a living space o

150 square metres.

Extremel high thermal insulation requirements were

met b using a KNAUF AQUAPANEL Exterior Wall

double stud sstem with insulation. This particular wall

construction achieves a U-value o 0.07 W/mK with

an insulation thickness o 400 and 545 mm. This thick

insulation maintains heat in the house during winter.

The ventilated aade allows warm air to go out in

summer. Moisture is constantl unnelled awa.

Knau Insulation Mineral Wool

Glass Wool

This standard economic solution can be used to

create a better indoor climate and is non-combustible,

diusion-open and resistant to aging. It is produced

using ECOSE Technology and is environmentally-

riendly. Thanks to its high level o compression and

lightweight, it is easy to transport and lit. It conorms

to EN 13162 standard.

Stone Wool

This high-end solution oers high fre resistance and

high sound insulation and is non-combustible, resistant

to deormation and resistant to aging. Stone wool is

heavier than glass wool due to its higher dry density.

It conorms to EN 13162 standard.

Knau Insulation Air-tightness Systems LDS

LDS Vapour Control Layers are special oils made rom

polyethylene or polypropylene and are robust and

resistant to aging. They are diusion-open.

A range o LDS Sealant Tapes is available or all

kinds o openings, such as windows, doors or HVAC*

installations, or interior and exterior use.

A KNAUF AQUAPANEL Exterior Wall system isconstructed with a metal ramework. Knau oers

a ull range o proiles and geometries to suit all

applications.

KNAUF metal proiles are precision-engineered,

high-quality steel sections used to orm the metal

substructure o the KNAUF AQUAPANEL Exterior Wall.

Proile thickness and stud spacing is determined bylocal wind loads and seismic activities.

For standard applications, proiles rom 0.6 mm to

1 mm thickness are suicient

Corrosion-resistance o metallic substructuresin KNAUF AQUAPANEL Exterior Wall systems

For metal substructure kits, it is important to observe

appropriate corrosion protection. Where dierent

materials are being combined, compatibility must be

checked in each case. For substructure kits o coldormed

galvanised sections with associated stamped parts,

reer to EN 13964. (Note: EN 12944 covers corrosion

protection o metal structures.)

A minimum protection o Z275 should be chosen

or substructures in directly applied / water-managed

exterior systems. For more demanding requirements,

or example structures in exposed areas near the sea,

a higher level o protection is required. Methodical

ventilated systems are excepted rom the given

recommendation; here the relevant norms or ventilated

systems have to be considered.

Conclusion:

Corrosion protection o proiles is an important

consideration when using a KNAUF AQUAPANEL

Exterior Wall. National standards must be observed.

Class C requires metal proiles Z 100 (zinc coating

o 100 g/m) with an additional organic coating o

20 m per side. Class D requires additional protection

depending on use and exposure to corrosive pollutants.

National standards may include even more stringent

requirements (e.g. DIN 18168).

Note: AQUAPANEL Maxi Screws with a special coating

are also corrosion-resistant. They have been successully

tested in a salt spray water test or 720 hours.
