To round off to the nearest ten (10) keep the following in mind:

If the number is a multiple of ten, leave it as it is (if it is, 10 ; 20 ; 30 ; 40... is).

If the unit place value digit is smaller than five (5), change the digit to a 0.

If the unit place value digit is bigger than five, add one to the tens place

value and change the unit digit to 0.

Examples for rounding off to the nearest 10:

27 rounded off ≈ 30, because the unit place value digit is 7 (bigger than 5).

53 rounded off ≈ 50, because the unit place value digit is 3 (smaller than 5).

30 rounded off ≈ 30, because it is already a multiple of 10.

48 ≈ 50 14 ≈ 10

169 ≈ 170 585 ≈ 590

303 ≈ 300 7 894 ≈ 7 890

REMEMBER:

Use the correct symbol when rounding off. ≈ NOT =

To round off to the nearest hundred (100) keep the following in mind:

If the number already is a multiple of 100, leave it as it is (if it is 100 ; 200 ;

300 ; 400...).

If the tens place value digit is less than five (5), change the tens and the

unit values to 0..

If the tens place value digit is more than five (5), add one to the hundred

value and change the tens and unit values to 0.

Examples for rounding off to the nearest 100 100:

273 rounded off ≈ 300, because the tens place value is 7 (bigger than 5).

638 rounded off ≈ 600, because the tens value is a 3 (smaller than 5).

500 rounded off ≈ 500, because it is already a multiple of 100.

123 ≈ 50 941 ≈ 10

458 ≈ 170 1 269 ≈ 590

369 ≈ 300 7 894 ≈ 7 890

REMEMBER:

Multiples can be described as the answers of your time tables.

Multiples of 2: 2 ; 4 ; 6 ; 8 ; 10….

Multiples of 10: 10 ; 20 ; 30 ; 40 ; 50…

Multiples of 50: 50 ; 100 ; 150 ; 200 ; 250 ; 300…

Multiples of 100: 100 ; 200 ; 300 ; 400 ; 500…

Why do we say it is the answers of time tables?

1 x 3 = 3 5 x 3 = 15

2 x 3 = 6 6 x 3 = 18

3 x 3 = 9 7 x 3 = 21

4 x 3 = 12 8 x 3 = 24

What is the first 8 multiples of 3

3 ; 6 ; 9 ; 12 ; 15 ; 18 ; 21 ; 24…
