Jessica Mauboy behind the scenes of her latest film clip with Snoop Dogg Picture: Sony Music
Jess fans lash outat ‘degrading’ clipBy DANIEL BOURCHIER
Thewhole song is a
celebration of
materialism
JESSICA Mauboy’s latestfilm clip has been pannedas ‘‘cheap’’, ‘‘tacky’’ and‘‘disappointing’’.
Fans were warned by onecommentator: ‘‘Don’t watch, just listen’’ to her latesttrack, Get Em Girls.
Sony music was accused oftrying to shut down debateon the single by closing theicon to vote whether you li-ked or disliked the film.
The first single from herforthcoming album of the
same name features theTerritory songbird struttingthe catwalk showing off herheels in an array of fashions, with caked-on make-up andlow lighting.
She is later joined bySnoop Dogg for a cameosome have described as ‘‘hy-persexual’’ and ‘‘sleazy’’.
Within five days of beingposted online, there havebeen about 300 comments onYouTube about the clip. Andthe comments continued onntnews.com.au yesterday.
Heather of Darwin said the
song had set a dangerousprecedent.
‘‘Worse than the un-comfortable ogling thatSnoop gives her is a host ofawful messages this songgives to young people,’’ she
wrote. ‘‘The whole song is acelebration of materialism, fame, conformity, objectifi-cation of women and a sadreflection on the shallow, cheap and degrading state ofpopular music.’’
Meanwhile, grum-pyoldfart of Darwin saidthere was nothing wrongwith the video.
‘‘(Compared to) some ofthe crap that so called enter-tainers put out this is mild,’’he said, ‘‘Go Jess.’’
And Stevo of Melbournesuggested the unsavoury
commentary was a case of‘‘tall poppy syndrome’’.
Mauboy told ConfideNTialon the orange carpet of theNickelodeon Kids ChoiceAwards in Sydney on Fridaythat she was excited aboutreleasing the clip.
‘‘I am excited just to hearwhat people will say. That isentertainment for me. I wantto hear what people think.’’
Mauboy said the album,Get Em Girls, was ready tobe released.
Sony music declinedto comment.

Australian football con-vert Israel Folau reportedlycaught the eye of one suchlady and the pair looked‘‘chummy’’ said our source.
