This week we formally begin our Culture of Vocations ministry as a parish. Last week we asked families to sign up to take home with them for one week: a “Vocation Cross”, a “Vocation Folder” to spend time in prayer dur-ing the week asking God’s blessing on their family and all families in our parish, diocese and around the world.
Why do we do this? The easy explanation is Bishop Cantú has asked us to begin this ministry of prayer. But there is a deeper and greater meaning behind this…God has asked us to be a people of prayer and to be families that share our faith with one another and to seek God’s will in our proper vocation in our lives.
Our diocesan vocation prayer includes this phrase, “We earnestly beg You to bless our parishes, our schools, and our diocese with many more priests, religious and lay faithful who will know you intimate-ly, love you fervently, and serve you joyfully through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.” This prayer re-minds us we are each called to open our eyes, ears and hearts to the call of God to follow him in all we do in our lives. No solo rezamos por "sacerdotes y religiosos consagrados", sino también por las parejas casadas santas y alegres, los solteros y los jóvenes que están en camino al matrimonio. Cada uno de nosotros, no importa lo joven o viejo, no debe tenerle miedo de hacer la simple pregunta: ¿Qué es lo que quiere de mí Dios? No te-nemos miedo porque sabemos que la voluntad de Dios nos llevará a cada uno de nosotros a un lugar de ser-vicio alegre el uno al otro.
Pero para poder hacer esta pregunta debemos convertirnos en una persona, una familia y una Iglesia de ora-ción. Para citar una vez más nuestra oración vocacional, "Te pedimos que continuamente llames a nuestros jóvenes a un encuentro vivo con tu Hijo en la Palabra y en la Eucaristía.".
Dentro de las carpetas hay guías de oración y otros recursos para ayudarnos a crecer en nuestro llamado a servir a Nuestro Padre en el cielo y los unos a los otros. Lo más importante ... Si bien la cruz y la carpeta son símbolos del ministerio de la Cultura de la Vocación ... todos estamos llamados a compartir la oración por las vocaciones al matrimonio, el sacerdocio y la vida religiosa consagrada continuamente durante todo el año.

We don’t just pray for “priests and consecrated religious” but also for holy and joyful married couples, those in the single state and for young people who are on the path to marriage. Each of us, no matter how young or old, should not be afraid to ask the simple question: What do want of me God? We are not afraid because we know the will of God will bring each of us to a place of joyful service of each other.
But to be able to ask this question we must become a person, a family and a Church of prayer. To once more quote our vocation prayer, “We pray that you continuously call our young people to a living encounter with your Son in the Word and Eucharist.”
Inside the folders are prayer guides and other resources to help us grow in our call to serve Our Father in heaven and one another. Most importantly…While the cross and folder are symbols of the Culture of Vocation ministry…we are all called to share in the prayer for vocations to marriage, priesthood and the consecrated religious life continuously throughout the year.

“Family Spiritual Fitness” Summer Challenge
Come to Church and Celebrate Mass during Summer!
During the summer, we invite the kids and their families to stay active in your faith by participating either Saturday or Sunday Masses (at St. Lucy or any other Catholic Parish). At the end of summer, please turn in your sheet to the parish office no later than September 8th. The families that are “spiritually fit” (most attendance) will receive a dinner from the priests at St. Lucy.
Durante el verano, queremos pedirle a los niños y a sus famililas que se mantengan acti-vas en su fe participando de la misa de los sábados o domingos (en Santa Lucía u otra iglesia católica). St. Lucy Conference, Society of St. Vincent de Paul wishes to acknowledge the organiza-tions who are supporting our mission of feeding the poor, providing housing and utility as-sistance, and hygiene products to the clients that visit our Outreach Office on the St. Lucy Parish Campus.

We have received a grant from the Catholic Community Foundation which can be used for our backpack program, rent and utilities.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Ladder Day Saints runs a Bishop’s Storehouse. They have given us a grant to use at their facility in the ordering of food and toiletry items that will support our housed and homeless clients. We have received a grant from Smart and Final for food and food cards.
This summer the Grocery Outlet, on Winchester Blvd, chose our Conference to be the recipient of their Inde-pendence from Hunger Campaign. Shoppers at their stores purchased bags for $5 or $10 and all of those bags were donated and are being distributed to our clients. In addition, the shoppers were able to donate funds for the campaign and the store matched those funds. The financial gift that we received will be used for food and food cards.
Without the support of the parish community and the outside agencies, we would not be able to be the arms and legs of Jesus. We want to thank all of you for your generous support and ask you to continue keeping the volunteers, who work so hard on behalf of the poor in our community, in your prayers.

Guadalupe Hope Society presents a Rosary Luncheon
on Friday September 13th from 11:30am - 1:00pm at Santa Maria Hall.
Fr.Gary Thomas of Sacred Heart Saratoga will lead the Rosary and present a faith talk on "Exorcism". Santa Maria Hall is located at 2211 Shamrock Drive in Campbell.
The Knights of Columbus will serve lunch. There is no charge for the event but seating is limited.
