    PROPOSAL GUIDELINES

  • Introduction Thanks to all of this years participants for making Law Games 2015 in Halifax such a success it was a pleasure hosting you on the East Coast for what weve been told was an enjoyable time! The time has now come to pass on the torch to the school hosting next years edition of Law Games. This package outlines the elements that go into a Law Games proposal, along with what we will be looking for when choosing the next host. There is no mandatory format for your submissions. Please submit all proposal documents to [email protected] by Tuesday, March 31st, 2015. The winning proposal will be contacted at the beginning of April, at which point we will coordinate the transfer of director powers and schedule the next AGM. We will also transfer all financial and planning documents from this year to the new school to help with their planning. If you have any questions at any point, please feel free to contact us either via e-mail or via the Law Games Facebook page!

  • Budget This is a rough idea of what the budget has looked like for the past few Law Games. Remember that attendance has varied from 550-720 over recent years.

Income Sponsorship $25,000-$35,000 Participant Fees $300,000-$350,000

Expenses Accommodation $100,000-$150,000 Formal $50,000-$75,000 Transportation $10,000-$15,000 Sports $8,000-$20,000 Social Events $20,000-$25,000 Promotional Items $8,000-$10,000 Miscellaneous $8,000-$13,000 Insurance $2,000 Total Expenditures $275,000-$325,000 When considering budget, here are a few questions you should be asking:

Has anyone on your Law Games Committee coordinated a large budget before?

Are there any events/expenses where you believe you are well situated to save a substantial amount of money over previous years? (I.e. Getting athletic facilities for free from University)

Are there any events/expenses that you believe will cost substantially more than previous years? (I.e. Hotel prices vary by city)

Does your school have a strong relationship with law firms for sponsorship?

Does your school have a strong relationship with other sponsors to receive discounts? (i.e. Dalhousie was able to partner with Alexander Keiths for welcome cases of beer)

  • Events Typically Law Games includes the following social events:

Moot Tournament Trivia Scavenger Hunt (this year was replaced by larger pub crawl!) Club Nights Formal Dinner Pub Crawl Talent Show

When highlighting events in your proposal, you should consider:

Which events do you expect to host? Will you be hosting any new events? Does your city and/or local venues create an advantage for hosting

these events? How many people can these venues accommodate?

  • Sports Typically Law Games includes the following sports:

Ice Hockey Ball Hockey Basketball Volleyball Dodgeball Waterpolo Cheerleading Synchronized Swimming Flag Football Ultimate Frisbee Indoor Soccer Squash

This year additional sports included: touch rugby 7s, ping pong, and badminton. When highlighting sports in your proposal, you should consider:

Which sports do you expect to host? Will you be hosting any new sports? Does your city and/or local venues create an advantage for hosting

these sports? How many people can these venues accommodate? Do you expect to have enough volunteers to organize these sports?

  • Accommodations

How many people can fit in your preferred hotel? Can you book an entire hotel exclusively for Law Games? Are there any valuables at your preferred hotel that could be

damaged? Is there a yellow bus company or other cheap transportation company

that could bus delegates to and from events? How many delegates could your city realistically accommodate?

    City, School and Committee

When was the last time your city or school hosted Law Games? What is special or unique about your city or school? Approximately how many people will you expect to be on your core

Law Games Committee? Does anyone on your Committee have experience organizing this type

of event? Looking forward to reading your proposals! Happy bidding!
