REDUCE ~ REUSE ~ RECYCLE

About the Nike Grind Program: Newspapers, soda cans, water bottles…and athletic shoes? Recycling sneakers might sound a little out there, but it wasn't so long ago that throwing yesterday's news into today's trash wasn't just normal, but the only thing to do with it. Times have changed – for the better. Today, recycling household waste like plastic, glass, paper and cardboard has become second nature for people around the world.

Our goal is to make recycling athletic shoes second nature as well. With Nike Reuse-A-Shoe bins available at more than 300 locations in the United States, Western Europe, Australia and New Zealand, it's becoming easier than ever to find a shoe recycling facility near you – and even easier to toss your kicks in and let us take care of the rest. Not only is tennis shoe recycling easy to do, but it's also one more way you can become a more conscious consumer and help Nike toward our goal of being a more sustainable company.

Special Events

This July is the celebration of the Market’s 8th Anniversary as a producer-only market of products from Virginia farmers, watermen, growers and bakers. Each week chefs provide cooking demonstrations, live musicians perform and master gardeners answer gardening questions. The Market includes Tuesday markets through August 31 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. A feature of this market is an invited artist each week that shows and sells pottery, paintings or photography along with vendors of produce, meat and prepared foods. Through August 31, the Market is defending it’s title in the American Farmland Trust “America’s Favorite Farmers Market” contest. In 2009 we placed #1 nationally in the mid-size category. Free parking is available 8:00 am – 12:00 noon on Market days at the Francis Street lot (P6). Visit the Market website or call for the latest on product availability, market events and information.
