  • Mokuteki Community Center | Honor Guard | 19

Question: How has the Misawa Joint Base Honor Guard helped you develop as an Airman?

Answer: The Honor Guard has become THE defi ning factor in my development as an Airman. To be a Ceremonial Guardsman, you have to strive to embody the core value of "Excellence in All We Do." That mentality is not only contained within the Honor Guard but it carries over into all aspects of my life. That mentality has given me the drive to accomplish EVERYTHING to the best of my ability. No matter what obstacles lie in my path, no matter what unfortunate events may occur in my life, I know that nothing will slow me down. I WILL strive for perfection in everything that I do.

"Obligated by my oath, I am constantly driven to excel by a deep devotion to duty and a strong sense of dedication"

Question: Can you describe what it feels like to be a part of a ceremonial detail?

Answer: A simple question, but it is diffi cult to answer. That is because the feeling is not limited to the ceremonial detail itself. The Honor Guard is composed of individuals from all around the base, from many different career fi elds, different levels of military experience, and even different branches of the military. We are all equal, and there is an incredible comraderie between us all. As we prepare for each detail we continue to build a stronger bond, it's like meeting up with your family for an event. That comraderie, that bond, that feeling of family; it persists throughout the preparation, through the ceremonial detail and even after we have fi nished, and are preparing to depart once more.

I am honoring the men and women that serve and have served in the United States military with my fellow Guardsmen. So, when you ask what it feels like to be part of a ceremonial detail, I can tell you that the feeling is pride, the same kind one has in one's family. I have pride in my Honor Guard family, and together we have pride in honoring with dignity.
