Tuckshop owner robbedPolice have arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with an incident of armed robbery in Luka Village, just outside Phokeng. According to the police, the robbery took place on 4 March at around 21h00 at a tuck-shop located in in the Tau section. “It is alleged the owner was about to close the shop when four suspects entered under the pretext of buying. They allegedly pointed the owner with a firearm and forced him to lie down,” police spokesperson Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said. “According to the report, the victim was

assaulted with a firearm butt for refusing to obey theinstructions. “The suspects then allegedly robbed him of an unspecified amount of cash and cigarettes and fled the scene with a Volkswagen Polo car,” Mokgwabone added. A manhunt was launched and one of the suspects was arrested. The suspect is due to appear before the Bafokeng Magistrates Court in Tlhabane to face charges of armed robbery. DOMESTIC FLIGHTS TO BOOST TOURISM – MAHUMAPELONorth West premier Supra Mahumapelo is confident that domestic flights from Pilanesberg, Mahikeng, OR Tambo and Cape Town airports – that will be introduced next month – will go a long way in boosting local tourism. Speaking at the official launch of the flights at Pilanesberg International Airport on Thursday, Mahumapelo said the flights would increase the volume of people travelling to visit the tourist resorts in the province. “This is a positive development, one that will greatly boost our capacity in the area of tourism,” Mahumapelo said. “I would like to urge the people of our province to make use of these domestic flights as they are an alternative and convenient means of transport,” he added. The introduction of the flights was made possible by a R73 million fund that was made available by the provincial government to revamp Mahikeng and Pilanesberg airports.Meanwhile, SA Express has confirmed it will begin commercial flights to both Pilanesberg Airport as well as Mafikeng Airport. Its first commercial flights to the Pilanesberg are scheduled for Wednesday, 1 April 2015 and bookings for flights are already open. The move said to be a game-changer for tourism in the province, means direct access to attractions such as Sun International’s Sun City resort in the North West.

Current schedules are in place for Johannesburg and Cape Town only. The airline said based on the success of the Cape Town and Johannesburg routes, SA Express could consider opening flights from Durban in the future.SA Express will fly into the Pilanesberg from OR Tambo International Airport three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from Cape Town International Airport twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. Return flights from the Pilanesberg to Johannesburg are also on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and to Cape Town on Mondays and Fridays.Cape Town to Pilanesberg flights will cost R3 000 return (including all taxes and levies) and from Johannesburg R2 200 return (including all taxes and levies). Inati Ntshanga, SA Express CEO said: “This is a significant milestone for us as an airline. It marks our coming of age as we turn 21 in two months’ time. For the first time in our 21-year history we will be flying in this province which makes us a truly regional South African airline that connects practically all of our major cities with small and outlying ones in our country.” Michael Farr, Sun International’s Group General Manager, said: “The fruition of this initiative, which has been some time in the making, bodes well for tourism in the North West.

“The availability of commercial flights to and from Pilanesberg will open up the gateway for easier and faster access to Sun City and the numerous attractions available in the Pilanesberg area. “Sun City, with four top quality hotels, a vibrant casino, magnificent sporting and recreational activities, two world-class golf courses, and the magical Lost City, Sun City offers remains a premier vacation

and entertainment destination, drawing over 3-million visitors each year,” he explained. Farr also confirmed that the Sun International Group would be developing value-added packages for people travelling to the Sun City resort via SA Express.

Bookings for the routes are available through SA Express.

RAPE SUSPECT BEATEN UPPolice in Mooinooi had to intervene and stop a group of people in Majakaneng who were beating up a man they accused of rape and house robbery. The incident happened 22 March at around 08h00.According to the information received, the community of Majakaneng allegedly saw the suspect holding a plasma TV and took the law into their own hands by beating the suspect. It is alleged that the 23-year-old suspect came to Mooinooi police to report a case of Rape and House Robbery. “It is alleged that six suspects went into the victims’ boyfriend’s place while she was asleep, three stood outside and three went inside the house, one carried a firearm while the other two raped her.“The suspects fled the scene with a plasma TV and some of the boyfriend’s clothes. Later during the day an old woman came to the police station to report a case of a suspect holding a firearm, pointing her with it and instructed her to take of her clothes but later left her unharmed,” Col Sabata Mokgwabone of SAPS said. The situation got out hand when the community heard about those cases and they started to barricade the roads. The police with the help from Traffic Department assisted in clearing out the roads and order has been restored in the area. “A 30-year-old suspect is still in critical condition in hospital under police guard. The police are making a plea to members of the public not to take law into their own hands and to let the police perform their duties,” Mokgwabone said. The police are in the process of carrying out further investigations.

BOJANALA FILM WEEK LAUNCHEDThis year’s edition of the Bojanala Film Week – which has become the premier cinematographic event in the North West province – was launched at the Waterfall Mall in Rustenburg on Wednesday. The launch was spiced up by the showing of the movie, Here Me Move, which was written by Wandile Molebatsi. Temporary electricity failure during the launch did not dampen the spirits of the people who attended the launch. Kea Malao, one of the organizers of the event, set the tone of the film week by explaining the relevance of the event. “I would like to thank everyone who came through last night to make our film week a success. It really meant a lot to us especially when you patiently waited for Eskom to restore electricity. Thank you very much for supporting the vision and empowering us with your presence,” Malao said. The film week – which started on Wednesday – will end on Sunday and is already attracted a lot of people who are eager to learn as much as they can about the local film industry. Backed by the Department of Arts, Culture and Traditional Affairs, the film week is also supported by the National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF). During this year’s event, the NFVF will is hosting a series of workshops in screenwriting, producing and directing, as well as an introduction to the film industry session. These workshops are being conducted by well-known film and TV personalities. As with the previous film weeks, the attendance is very high, making it possible to fulfil the aim of the campaign, which is motivating young people more particularly those from disadvantaged communities within Bojanala District Municipality. The workshops are focusing on the key areas

that are necessary in film production to equip students with relevant capacity that will assist them as they embark on their work. Bojanala Film Week is of paramount importance for the NFVF as it integrates youth involvement in the film industry, more largely youths from deprived communities.“The film week continue to grow from strength to strength each year. We hope to reach out to as many young people who are interested in film related activities as possible this year,” Malao said.

BakweNa coNstRuctioN pRojects poised to eNhaNce tRaffic fLow

Bakwena places great importance on their road users’ experience of the routes and therefore are sharing a significant update on the work they are currently engaged in as a means of keeping road users informed and prepared for any road works that will be taking place.Bakwena will soon be implementing a upgrade that will see its current Zambezi interchange being converted into an innovative diverging diamond interchange (DDI) that will enhance traffic capacity, alleviate congestion and provide free flow of traffic for road users. In particular, the upgrade is expected to ease bottlenecking at the N1/Sefako Makghato Interchange for many years to come. The project, coming in at an estimated construction cost of R29-million, is being funded by Bakwena at no additional cost to its road users and will begin on 23 March 2015. Completion is expected in early November 2015. SANRAL introduced the first DDI in the southern hemisphere on a left hand drive system in KwaMashu in Durban last year, reflecting similar designs introduced in France and the USA. In addition to improving the capacity and safety of these interchanges, traffic/pedestrian conflict points have also been greatly reduced, with a consequent overall reduction in accidents and acomplete elimination of right turn accidents.A DDI is a type of diamond interchange in which the two directions of traffic on the non-freeway road cross to the opposite side on both sides of the bridge. Vehicles cross over the lanes at a two-phased signalised intersection to drive on the “wrong” side of the road, allowing free and unopposed right and left turns onto and off the freeway.Commenting on the introduction of this innovative traffic interchange, Executive mayor of Tshwane, Kgosientso Ramokgopa, said the City of Tshwane welcomed the partnership with Bakwena that will not only improve traffic flow and ensure world class roads, but will also herald a significant reduction in road accidents and fatalities. He was referring to Bakwena’s exemplary road safety record over the 2014/5 holiday period in which no major incidents occurred. Ramokgopa added that the proper maintenance of roads in this area also ensured improved trade between Tshwane and the provinces of Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West, which bodes well for economic growth in the region.

In another section of its concession, Bakwena will soon enhance road users’ driving experiences at the Doornpoort plaza with the construction of four (two per direction) reversible lanes to help ease traffic congestion.Construction will commence on Monday and will be completed by end May 2015. The functionality upgrade of these lanes will contribute 28% more capacity for enhanced movement on the N4 routes.“The experiences of those who frequently

use this route is are important to us and the construction of these reversible lanes at Doornpoort is our response to the requests received from road users to help ease traffic congestion,” says Liam Clarke, spokesperson of Bakwena.“While the construction will have an impact on the normal flow of traffic during the construction period, we assure our road users that we will have measures in place to manage the process in the best way possible.”Traffic will be closely monitored during these construction periods and mitigation measures will be implemented during peak periods to ease any congestion. These measures include lifting of the booms that will be managed when queues exceed a pre-determined length.Bakwena complies with international engineering standards during road construction and maintenance, including the road design standards, which determines the number of lanes and lane widths, to ensure sufficient capacity to handle safely the volume of anticipated traffic.“During this construction period, we urge motorists to exercise particular caution and to bear with us during the improvement operation. We look forward to opening the reversible lanes for added convenience by end May2015,” concludes Clarke.

Nearly 500 000 professional drivers are working without proper documentation in South Africa. With South Africa still having the second-highest road-death rate in the world, isn’t it high time we checked the qualifications of the people we employ? However, this really is no laughing matter. The intolerable fatality rate on our roads must be addressed urgently.During February 2015 alone, more than 650 people died on South Africa’s roads. According to the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC), the deaths were from 578 crashes recorded between from February 1-27. Most were in Gauteng (128 fatal crashes, 136 deaths). KZN was second-worst (94 fatal crashes, 102 deaths). What is happening on our roads? Why are there so many accidents and what is being done to prevent them? I believe that charging unqualified drivers with culpable homicide, as was the case with theN12 horror crash driver Isaac Maruding, is a good start. In fact I would go as far as to say that a charge of murder would not be out of place for individuals that have no business behind the wheel of a large vehicle that could cause untold tragedy. However, there is a huge onus on the employers of these drivers. Information gathered from the RTMC indicates that there was a total of 433 973 expired professional driving permits (PrDPs) recorded on the National Traffic Information System on December 31 2014. This means that of the total number of permits issued only 57% were valid. To obtain a PrDP a person must produce a medical fitness certificate and maintain a clean criminal record. That doesn’t seem like that much to ask to keep our roads safe. Before you employ your next driver, check that he or she is actually legally licensed to drive. According to the RTMC, there are almost half a million drivers operating on South African roads without proper documentation. As a result, owners of freight and public transport are being warned that they will be held liable for the failure of their drivers to renew their professional driver’s permits. Advocate Makhosini Msibi, CEO of the RTMC, warned transport operators that it was their duty to ensure that both the driver and the vehicle were fit to operate on a public road. The Road Traffic Act requires them to exercise proper control over their drivers and ensure compliance with all provisions of the

law - including requirements in respect of professional driving permits. To improve compliance and safety on the roads the RTMC, with other traffic enforcement agencies, have decided to take vigilance up a notch by investigating all major accidents to establish the compliance level of operators.According to Section 50 of the National Traffic Act, traffic authorities have the right to suspend or cancel the licence of any operator who has failed to exercise his or her duties in terms of the Act Operators are warned: Don’t be surprised if authorities show up at your door unannounced. Inspections will be carried out, offenders will be identified, and action taken against those who do not comply with the law. I must applaud the RTMC for this; we can only hope that they commit to sticking with their plan. It’s also well worth noting that no insurance company will pay out on an accident claim where the collision was caused by an unqualified driver. So, the next time you’re thinking of hiring a trucking company, make sure that the designated driver is legally qualified to use the road.Road traffic regulations are put in place to protect us and if more is done to support this there may be far fewer deaths.Enough is enough – let’s keep these killer drivers off our roads.Jenny Reid, is the managing director of iFacts. She writes in her own personal capacity.

South Africa launched a national TB screening and awareness campaign on Tuesday as part of events to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day.The campaign was launched by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa and Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi in Kanana near Klerksdorp. It aims to encourage all South Africans – particularly those in mining communities, inmates in correctional facilities and those in early childhood development centres – to be screened and tested for TB.Under the theme “Ending South Africa’s TB epidemic: Accelerating our Response in Key Populations”, the campaign aims to raise awareness and knowledge of TB in communities. Childhood TB will also receive special attention.“With these interventions, we aim to achieve the World Health Organization’s 2025 annual targets by reducing TB incidence to less than 150,000 infections, compared to more than 400,000 currently,” said Ramaphosa. “We aim to reduce TB deaths to less than 20,000, compared to more than 120,000 currently.” The state also wants South Africans to learn the symptoms of TB and take measures to avoid infection. On drug-resistant TB, Ramaphosa said South Africa has seen the largest roll-out of the GeneXpert machine, which improves diagnosis, and there are 298 decentralised sites to address TB in local areas.

“We have mobilised millions of South Africans to test regularly for HIV. We have initiated nearly three million people on anti-retroviral treatment. Now is the time to do the same to stop TB. Now is the time to be screened for tuberculosis. Now is the time to know,” said the deputy president. World TB Day (24 March) marks the day in 1882 when Dr Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the cause of tuberculosis - TB bacillus. At that time, TB was raging through Europe and the Americas, killing one out of every seven people. Koch’s discovery opened the way towards diagnosing and curing tuberculosis.South Africa has a high burden of TB, with around 1% of the population 55-million developing active TB disease each year. The World Health Organisation (WHO) gives an estimated incidence of 500 000 cases of active TB in 2011.This is worldwide the third highest incidence of any country after India and China, and the incidence has increased by 400% over the past 15 years.Out of the 500 000 cases in South Africa, it is estimated by WHO that about 330 000 (66%) people have both HIV and TB infection. In the past fi ve years, the government has strengthened its strategies for TB control with increased screening and testing, especially through the introduction of rapid diagnostic tests for TB and drug resistant TB.

A man was shot and killed by police after allegedly attempting to steal 21 sheep in Schweizer-Reneke early on Thursday. Around 2am, police were notifi ed that three men were attempting to steal the sheep at Ipelegeng location, outside Schweizer-Reneke, said Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone. “According to the information, the police allegedly spotted the bakkie with sheep loaded at the back and tried to stop it.” A car chase ensued onto a gravel road, heading towards Amalia, where the robbers hit a tree. “It is further alleged that three suspects got out and ran away. The police chased them and one of the members managed to catch the suspect who was the driver of the car,” Mokgwabone said. “It is alleged that the police and the suspect

wrestled and in the process a bullet went out and the suspect was fatally wounded.” A charge of murder has been registered and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate were investigating. The two remaining men, aged 27 and 37, were arrested and expected to appear in Schweizer-Reneke Magistrate’s Court soon. They would face a charge of stock theft.

Three men convicted of killing a taxi owner will be sentenced by the North West High Court, sitting in Mogwase, on Monday. China Moloi (39) Nkululo Vava (29) and Dalikhaya Nompojwane were found guilty of killing taxi owner Sello Peter Mogale(62) at his home in Phokeng in January 2014, Colonel Sabata Mokgwabone said on Thursday. Moloi was found to have instigated the murder and sold his Corsa bakkie to pay his friends R20,000 for the crime. On January 15 last year, Vava and Nompojwane met Moloi at his home, not far from Mogale’s home. “They all went to the victim’s house where,

on arrival, they cut the fence to gain entrance and hid themselves in the yard and waited for the victim to return home. “It was upon arrival of the victim that the trio, who were all armed with fi rearms, shot the deceased several times as he got out of the vehicle inside the garage,” Mokgwabone said. The murder was motivated by a taxi route dispute. Moloi bought a minibus taxi which he forcefully tried to operate on routes in Phokeng without the approval of the local association, of which Mogale was a member. They were arrested at the Rustenburg taxi rank, Freedom Park informal settlement and Sefi kile village, near Swartklip.

Police in Phokeng are investigating cases of murder after four Lesotho nationals were shot dead on Saturday night, apparently over a rivalry over music. Provincial police said in a statement on Tuesday: “It is alleged that the fi rst two victims were shot outside No 6 hostel Impala bus platforms in Luka Village, while the other two were shot while on the street at Robega Village, a few metres from the fi rst murder scene.” The ages of the victims were not immediately known. Police said according to information available, the victims were shot

by other Lesotho nationals in what looked like music rivalry. They have requested anyone with information that may lead to arrest of the suspects to call the Phokeng police station on (081) 566-1831 or Detective Warrant Offi cer Dipotso Montsho on 082 362 4959. Meanwhile, four suspects, including two taxi drivers, have been arrested in the Robega village area of the North West in connection with stock theft. A 39-year-old taxi driver was arrested by the police stock left unit for possession of suspected stolen stock on Monday. North West police said: “The driver and his two accomplices aged 21 and 24 were arrested after being found at Mafenya Village while trying to sell fi ve goats. Preliminary investigation has shown that several cases of stock theft were previously reported at the village.” Police said the arrests came after a suspicious taxi with the three occupants was spotted in the early hours of the morning and a surveillance operation was carried out. The fi ve goats were later found inside the taxi. A fourth suspect, aged 50, who was also a taxi driver was later apprehended and all four were due to appear in the Bafokeng Magistrates Court in Tlhabane, on charges of possession of stolen stock.

RAIN GIVES BIRTH TO FOUR CUBS

A cheetah captured by the Department of Rural, Environment, and Agricultural Development captured in February 2014 and later named Rain has given birth to four cubs in the Pilanesberg National Park.Rain was captured on farmland in the Nietverdiend area of the North West province. At that time, it was reported to being regularly seen along a gravel road and farmers expressed concern that it may impact heavily on their local game species. This forced the department to embarked on a routine Damage Causing Animal (DCA) management and the animal was caught shortly afterwards, and sent to the holding bomas at the Madikwe Game Reserve. According to information made available by the department, the cheetah remained in the bomas for a few months, and during that time decisions had to be made as to where it was to be released, mindful of a number of factors, not least of which is the rarity of female cheetahs and the demand that there is for them. “After weighing up various factors (i.e. prey density, competitor density, other provinces), the biggest risk was in fact the immobilisation and transport to the chosen destination – Pilanesberg National Park. “It was released during the month of April 2014 with a satellite collar which downloads

four locations per day, and she was named Rain,” said the department in a statement. It is suspected that Rain probably mated with two males of a coalition that may have entered the park from the outside. She was suspected to be denning during the November 2014, and this was deduced from judicious interpretation of her satellite downloads, and camera traps were placed close to her den sites so as to obtain footage of her anticipated litter. A maximum of four cubs were seen from the downloaded camera trap footage, though this number can change with the passage of time as they come to terms with the vagaries with life in the wild. Ecologists were surprised that she in fact did last so long in a reserve with a high lion density, and unlike wild dogs, cheetahs are unobtrusive, inconspicuous large carnivores that can in fact persist reasonably well with the presence of lions, which is what has been recently been found to be the case with Serengeti cheetahs. “The success of the spawning of the Pilanesberg National Park cheetah population is attested to the jointly co-ordinated management between the Directorate of Biodiversity Management in the Department as well as the North West Parks and Tourism Board,” said the department.

SOS KIDS CLEAN UP CROCODILE RIVERGiving back to the community that supports them is exactly what the youth from the SOS Children’s Village in Rustenburg did, by embarking on a 16-kilometre river clean-up of the Crocodile River, running through the Renosterspruit Conservancy down to the Bobbejaan’s Kloof Resort. The clean-up project was organised by the HSBC Independent Living Youth programme and took place on 22 March. It was partnered by the SOS Children’s Villages and the Hermann Gmeiner Adult Training Centre, and included contributions from a

number of organisations including HSBC, Phaladingwe Adventures and Renosterspruit Nature Conservancy. “The aim of this project is to teach our youth the importance of water conservation and improving water quality by raising environmental awareness through education and prevention,” explained Dr. Rene Robinson, Director of SOS Training Centre The clean-up project focused on encouraging youth to reduce and recycle pollution, promote safe clean waterways and healthier drinking water.

GOAL FEST IN NEDBANK CUPLocal football fans are being treated to a high-scoring tournament in this year’s edition of the Nedbank Cup. A total of 49 goals were scored in open play in the 14 matches that have been played so far in the last 32 stage of the competition. Ajax Cape Town’s 9 – 1 rout of Mainstay United produced the most number of goals in a single match while there was another glut of goals in Black Leopards’ 6 – 2 win over FC Cape Town on Saturday. Defending champions Orlando Pirates and their bitter rivals – Kaizer Chiefs – asserted their status among the favourites to win the title. Pirates dispatched Tornado FC by a 4 – 0

margin while Chiefs also made light work of Edu Sport to win their match by the same scoreline. AmaZulu and Chippa United were the only teams from the PSL that were eliminated from the competition. The Durban-based team were handed a 2 – 1 defeat by National First Division side Golden Arrows while Chippa were beaten after penalties by Natal United. This was after the match had finished goalless in regulation time. Chiefs striker Siphelele Mthembu leads the scoring charts with three goals to his name while Thandani Ntshumayelo is just a single goal behind him. Platinum Stars striker Eleazar Rodgers – who scored a brace in his side’s 3 – 0 win over The Magic – says the high number of goals demonstrate the superiority of the

topflight league.“Most of the matches that produced many gaols involved a PSL team playing against a team in the lower divisions,” Rodgers said. “Without taking anything away from the other teams, I think there is a difference in terms of standards between the PSL and the other divisions. However, I think there will be less goals as we progress in the tournament,” he added. The Nedbank Cup is South Africa’s premier club football knockout tournament. While many formats have been used over the years, the tournament has always been based on the idea of giving lower league and amateur teams a chance to compete with clubs from the top league for the cup. The tournament, based on the English FA Cup format, carries a ‘David versus Goliath’ theme.

STARS OUT OF NEDBANK CUP

Platinum Stars suffered a 3-1 loss against Mamelodi Sundowns at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Sunday afternoon in the Nedbank Cup’s last 16 round. Stars did not do badly in the game as they fought till the last sweat, but it was Sundowns that were more hungry for the spot in the next round than any other team. The first minute of the match saw Robert Ng’ambi directing cross from the right flank but just went near the post. It was this very same chance that gave the first half entertainment and took supporters from quiet to chanting. Sundowns were great in the first half hour and clocked a lead at just minutes by Mzikayise Mashaba, who received it as a build up from Themba Zwane and Siyanda Zwane. Stars could not have let Sundowns lead before half time as they played well and built good balls towards the front. In their response, just before the break, Robert Ng’ambi put Ndumiso Mabena into space on the right of the penalty area and his low shot-cross was swept home by Eleazar Rodgers to make it 1-1. Second half received more scoring chances and was rhythmic in a sense that Stars were fighting for another goal, unfortunately their game changed as Stars were somewhat unfortunate after being forced into replacing key attacking players Ng’ambi and Mogakolodi Ngele, who both suffered injuries In the 82nd minute, Billiat scored the second for Sundowns and two minutes later, Kekana extended the lead with his shot direct from a free kick to end the match to place Sundowns in the quarter finals.Following the loss, Platinum Stars can now focus on the league, a priority at this stage. Willem Jackson, who just been appointed coach after Allan Freese was put on special leave, said: “At this point we are faced with

reality of us sitting at the bottom and it is up to us to make sure we leave that spot. We have really played well, and I am looking at motivating the players to move forward and work hard. “Nedbank Cup was a great opportunity but it was not our priority, we just had to make sure we represent the club well, which I think we have. “Sundowns was not an easy side, but we gave them a run for their money, we have. Many thanks to the supporters that came through to support us on that day, we are grateful. Now, we have a break and we must utilise it to our best advantage, the journey is still on.”

EKSTEEN, BAHLMANN CLAIM GOLD AT IMPI CHALLENGE

The Van Gaalens Cheese Farm in Hartebeespoort, North West Province, was buzzing with excitement on Saturday, 14 March 2015 when close to 1000 adventure seekers lined up to be part of the action of the first IMPI Challenge of 2015. Claude Eksteen was the competitor to beat in the men’s Elite Race, running to victory in a lightning fast time of 01 hour 42 minutes 05 seconds. “I felt good today,” said Eksteen. “The new obstacles definitely made things more interesting, while running the course in reverse to last year mixed things up a bit. I went out hard in the beginning. The IMPI races feature a lot of trail running, this suits me. “I recommend this event to others because of the vibe. Nothing is too extreme and there is a good variation, with an added fun aspect. Your weaknesses and fears will be challenged, but not to the extreme,” he added. Greg Avierinos came in second, while Thomas Van Tonder finished third. IMPI newcomer Patricia Bahlmann set the

course on fire in the women’s Elite Race. With a finishing time of 02 hours 07 minutes 24 seconds, she was unstoppable. “I actually entered the IMPI Elite Race by default,” said Bahlmann. “I was supposed to take part in the AfricanX Trailrun this weekend, and was literally boarding the plane when my partner phoned to say that his brother had been in an accident and that he would not be able to compete. “Claude Eksteen then invited me to do the IMPI Elite Race instead. It was amazing, the running was hard and the obstacles were fabulous. I am very much a trail runner the obstacles are a bonus as they make the event more challenging. I am very excited as I have found an event that I will definitely keep taking part in,” she added. Anita Obrien came in second, while Carina Marx finished third. The Festival Village was teaming with activity driven by entertainment, good food and a great vibe. A marked spectator route gave family members and friends the opportunity to show support and cheer on loved ones.
