LG Motown is currently the earliest to mature feed wheat on the recommended list, with official testing suggesting that it also meets the requirements of the distilling market. LG Motown has a good disease resistance profile, combined with good agronomic features; such as OWBM resistance – a genetic trait of value in areas of high incidence. LG Motown has an excellent disease profile with good resistance to Septoria tritici, mildew and brown rust and excellence resistance to yellow rust (rated a 9). @ = Believed to carry the Pch1 Rendezvous resistance gene to eyespot Continues overleaf... RIPENING:

RIPENING

March 2020. Data from the AHDB Recommended List 2020/21. On the 1-9 scales, high figures indicate that a variety shows the character to a high degree.

The variety carries resistance for Orange Wheat Blossom Midge, an important trait recognised by growers due to increasing restrictions on insecticide products.

LG Motown offers the agronomic characteristics of good tillering and a more prostrate winter habit with a quicker spring growth.

Limited trials suggest the variety should not be placed in the early drilling scenario and Limagrain recommend that Revelation or Claire should be the varieties of choice for this situation. A drilling date of mid-September onwards should be considered for LG Motown.

Limagrain trials show that the split PGR programme reduced lodging significantly and produced the highest yields.

LG Motown is a high tillering variety & reduced seed rates should be considered to reduce lodging without yield penalty (see graph: split PGR v 300 and 400 seed rate).

Additional PGR application at GS37-39 may be necessary in very high biomass/high yielding situations, to ensure good standing at harvest. Limagrain suggest that lower rates of PGR are advisable at this later stage, as LG Motown is a shorter strawed variety & a significantly reduced height may reduce final yield potential.
