Diamond Emerald is the reinvention of our most ever wanted piece, a special edition for the present year and a tribute to Pantone Emerald - a lively, radiant and lush green Color of the Year for 2013. Like the amethyst Diamond, this sideboard also features three highly sculptured doors leading to a gold leaf interior with shelving and two drawers. The exterior of this fanciful piece is now pre-sented in silver leaf finished with a luxurious shade of translucent green emerald with high gloss varnish. And instead of the whimsical lion’s head feet, the new Diamond presents a base made from mahogany lined with bronze mirror. Most often associated with brilliant, precious gemstones, the perception of Emerald is sophisticated and luxurious. Through a series of quirky decorative pieces, our furniture pays tribute to the exquisite art of the hand-made, showcasing the cooperative relationships that exist among art, design and artistic crafts on the one hand and the designers who conceives the idea as well as the artisan who materially inter-prets it, on the other. A passionate advocate of fine craftsmanship and heritage itself, Boca do Lobo Studio desired for its creations to be designed to demonstrate the excellence of forgotten arts, using materials and techniques that are partly traditional and partly evolutionary or even experimental.

We use the application of gold, silver and copper leafs, a technique that has remained virtually un-changed for hundreds of years and we still do it by hand. The application of these leafs is by far one of the ancient techniques in wood decoration. There is a great tradition with several craft pieces of excel-lent craftsmanship. The use of these leafs can be traced back as far as the ancient Egyptian times. Five thousand years ago, Egyptian artisans recognized the extraordinary durability and malleability of gold and silver and became the first goldbeaters and gilders. They pounded gold using a round stone to create the thinnest leaf possible. Except for the introduc-tion of a cast iron hammer and a few other innovations, the tools and techniques have remained vir-tually unchanged for thousands of years. By using this technique we recover these stories of passion that evoke unique moments of rare opulence. It has been a part of ancient art. Possession of furniture with gold and silver leafing symbolizes wealth and prosperity. It was a status symbol in those ancient times that inspired our present furniture makers who adopted the concept of silver gold leafing. Our talented designers and masterful artisans create highly desirable new statement pieces that are jewelry for the home.

Hand-painted-tiles have gained a privileged place in architecture and throughout the centuries, Portugal has adopted them like no other country has. They constitute a major aspect of Portuguese architecture and are one of our most important decorative elements. In order to honor the Portu-guese hand painted tiles, Boca do Lobo created Heritage Sideboard. This piece presents a different number of layers, where each one tells a different story. There is a Heritage going through different times and centuries, together in a final panel. In the different layers you find various tiles paintings inspired by different periods of Portuguese history, taken from distinct historic buildings like convents or old colleges. Inside the sideboard you find a gold leaf interior that will make you remember the historical buildings referred before, which normally presented interiors with a lot of ornaments and gold.
