great year with Lincoln County 4‐H, because  I have  lots 

of new ideas and plans for this year! 

  It’s  me to start gearing up for 4‐H Communica ons 

Contests.  The  County  Speech  Contest  is  scheduled  for 

Tuesday,  February  6  and  the  County  Demonstra on   

Contest is scheduled for Tuesday, March 6.

Gear up for 4‐H Communica ons Contests! SPEECH CONTEST

  The  4‐H  Speech  Contest  will  be  held  Tuesday,     

February  6,  2018  at  the  Lincoln  County  Extension 

Office. Registra on  starts at 5:30 p.m. and  the  con‐

test begins at 6 p.m.   Youth ages of 9‐13 are  in  the 

junior  division  and  should  prepare  a  3  to  5 minute 

long  speech  and may  use  notecards 

(but  no  visual  aids,  like  posters).  At 

the  senior  level,  youth  ages  14‐18 

must  prepare  a  speech  between  5 

and  7 minutes  in  length.  Cloverbuds  (ages  6‐8)  are 

welcome  to par cipate, but will not advance  to dis‐

trict or state levels. 

  The event is also divided up among ten different 

age categories, depending on the par cipant’s age of 

January 1, 2018. All par cipants will receive $10 in 4‐

H Bucks, coupons that can be used towards any 4‐H 

event  registra on costs,  like 4‐H camp. Each winner 

in their age category will receive an addi onal $15 in 

4‐H bucks and will go on to compete in the Area   4‐H 

Talk Meet, which will be held later in the spring.  

DEMONSTRATION CONTEST

  The County Demonstra on Contest  is scheduled 

for Tuesday, March 6. Registra on starts at 5:30 p.m. 

and  the  contest  begins  at  6  p.m.  at  the  Extension 

Office.  An  effec ve  demonstra on  teaches  others 

how to do something by showing while telling. At the 

end  of  a  demonstra on,  you  should 

have  a  finished  product  to  show  to 

your audience. 

  Demonstra on  subjects  should 

be  interes ng,  fun,  and  suitable  for  an  audience. 

Demonstra ons  should  be  between  10  and  15 

minutes and must have posters or other visual aids. 

Par cipants  are  divided  into  junior  (ages  9‐13)  and 

senior  (14‐18)  levels, and  then by  topic  (foods, arts, 

sewing, nature etc.).  

  All demonstra on par cipants will receive $10 in 

4‐H Bucks, and each winner will receive an addi onal 

$15 in and will go on to compete in the Area Demon‐

stra on  Contest,  which  will  be  held  later  in  the 

spring.  

Middle School Retreat

High School Teen Retreat

All youth currently in 6th thru 8th grade are invited to spend two action-packed days at North Central 4-H Camp in Carlisle, KY for the annual

District 4 Middle School Retreat. We are heading to camp on Thursday, January 25 and returning Friday, January 26, 2018. Transportation is provided and we will depart the Lincoln County Office on Thursday. Cost: $40 (includes long-sleeve t-shirt & 4-H Bucks will be accepted)

Registration and fees are due by Friday, January 12. NEW: Register and pay online (click here or use your QR scanner to visit)!!

High school students are invited to spend the weekend at the Kentucky Leadership Center in Jabez for the District 4 4-H Teen Retreat on February 16-18, 2018. Final costs and registration materials will be mailed separately, so please make sure you have a 2017-18 4-H Enrollment Form on file.

Are you interested in a two-night, three-day 4-H

adventure? Lincoln County will be heading to 4-H

Summit March 8-10, 2018 for the leadership conference

of a lifetime.

The conference will be held at the Kentucky

Leadership Center in Jabez, KY. The cost is $115 per

person, which includes transportation, meals (except for

one fast food meal), registration, a conference t-shirt,

and all activities during the event. Click HERE to

register online or check your mail for paper forms.

If you plan on attending, please have the registration packet completed and mailed,

dropped off, or submitted online no later than Friday, February 16, 2018. Late registration

cannot be accepted, as space is limited! After you are registered, you will receive a packet of

information with more details.

4-H Summit: Middle School Leadership Conference

Cooking with Kids: Banana Pudding Parfait 8 ginger snap cookies

(crushed) 7 medium ripe bananas

(sliced thin) 1 cup nonfat milk 1 1-oz box instant sugar

-free, fat-free vanilla pudding

1 1/4 cups low-fat vanilla yogurt

1 teaspoon vanilla ex-tract

1 cup fat-free frozen whipped topping (thawed)

10 8-oz parfait cups or drinking glasses

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon for garnish (optional)

Directions In a large bowl, whisk

together the milk and pudding mix; blend well (about 2 minutes).

Add yogurt and vanilla extract; blend until smooth.

Stir the thawed whipped topping into the mixture.

Line the bottom of the parfait cups with a teaspoon of crumbled ginger snaps.

Layer 6 banana slices on top of the cookies; then 2 tbsp of the yogurt mixture on top. Repeat with another layer of the ginger snaps, bananas, and yogurt mixture.

Top with cinnamon or crushed cookie for garnish.

Cover and chill in refrigerator.
