1 StrategyHow much life is left in your corporate strategy?

Despite an increasingly volatile global economic environment, the strategic thinking of many large companies has remainedstatic. This is no time for complacent thinking; even thesavviest strategies lose potency over time.

To achieve sustainable success in today’s business climate, you need to continually re-engineer your strategy to keep it intune with evolving markets, competitors and customers.

Successful strategic planning and implementation requiresproactive engagement with your external and internalstakeholders. Strategic excellence requires an energisingenterprise environment in which corporate leaders optimiseorganisational expertise at every level.

The Senior Executive Programme broadens your strategicthinking; increasing your ability to determine and maximiseopportunities. You explore the concept of disruptive innovation, focusing on how to identify critical success factors and buildagile strategic plans.

2 LeadershipHow effective is your leadership style?

Effective team performance is critical to the implementation ofstrategy and organisational transformation.

Senior Executive Programme academics explore how the mosteffective corporate leaders avoid ‘organising the inevitable’ andachieve real organisational change.

Authenticity, adaptability and a keen sense of self-awarenessare critical to inspiring others to exceed in their professionalperformance. The most innovative business visions andcorporate missions are meaningless without an effective leaderto communicate them to employees.

As pioneer of the 360-degree survey, the programme uses in-depth analysis of your behaviour to help you analyse yourindividual leadership style and key areas of effectiveness. Theresulting insights support your development during theprogramme and are the foundation of a personal action planthat you can apply when you return to work.

The Senior Executive Programme explores these skills in greatdepth, continually asking the thematic question: Why shouldanyone be led by you?

Programmethemes

The Senior Executive Programme interweaves three critical managementthemes: Strategy, Leadership and Transformation.

3 TransformationDo you devote more energy to prolonging the past than youdo to creating the future?

The need to act without knowledge of what the future holds isthe central challenge you face as a business leader.

Extrapolating the known into the future is intuitive, but tends tolead to incremental innovation and progress – rather thaninspiring bold calculated action that leads to effective andsustained change. In order to achieve meaningful change, it isessential that you question conventional wisdom and acceptedpractice.

Change initiatives often fall short of their objectives becausethey are conceived as a linear process with a defined finish. On this programme, the concept of transformation is viewed asa sustained process of renewal, rather than a one-off‘programmatic’ event. You explore how to sustain innovation bylinking disparate organisational change efforts.

Name: Fredrik Ragmark

Job title: CEO

Company: Medicover

Nationality: Swedish

Residence: Belgium

Education and career: Fredrik has both a law degreeand a business management (BBA) degree. He worked forOriflame in Eastern Europe for four years before becominginvolved in a start-up, Medicover, 15 years ago. Medicover isnow the largest health services company in Central andEastern Europe with more than 6,000 employees.

A different perspectiveFollowing my degree studies, I went straight to work forOriflame, and then moved to Medicover. In 2009, I realisedthat I hadn’t spent one day in executive education, so it wouldbe good to take some time out to gain a different perspective.Medicover is a growth-orientated business. We are constantlyseeking to expand and find opportunities, so we work in anenvironment that is changing and developing all the time. AsCEO, your own personality and leadership skills are developingtoo, but you come to a point where it’s nice to get externalbenchmarks and see how other people are looking at things.

I had a colleague who had completed the MBA at LondonBusiness School and he helped me look at the programmesavailable. I was looking for a course on leadership and choseLondon Business School on that basis.

Be yourself, with skillThe whole programme was very well put together with highlypractical sessions. It’s not just about sitting and reading books. The lecturers are all passionate about their subjects, makingthe experience very positive in terms of both environment andhow you are treated. For me, one of the most positiveintellectual learnings to take away came from Rob Goffee’sleadership modules. His theory that, as a leader, you shouldbe yourself, but with more skill made me realise thatleadership is about rejuvenating and leveraging your personalstrengths.

Learning from othersI had expected diversity of the participants on the programme– it was one of the reasons I chose London Business Schooland didn’t consider a school in the US – but I was pleasantlysurprised at the sheer variety of perspectives. For example, there were a number of public sector participants, particularlyfrom Asia, which gave a very different point of view on manythings.

I also enjoyed the networking and the extra-curricular activities– getting together with the rest of the group socially. Theinternational evening – when everyone cooked different food –was a particular highlight.

Far-reaching changesWhen I returned from the programme, I was able to implementfar-reaching organisational changes. I took the time to sell myvision internally and was successful. The business isperforming better, trackable back directly to the restructuringprogramme that I led.

On a personal level, I feel I have developed my leadershipcapabilities. I will be undertaking the follow-up 360-degreeprocess shortly and it will be interesting to see the results. Ifeel that there has been an evolution in the right direction, directly benefiting me and the organisation.

ContinuityI am planning for one of my employees to attend theprogramme next spring. I believe it’s very relevant for seniormanagers because it’s about self-realisation, being a betterleader and becoming more aware of your own strengths andweaknesses.

I know first-hand how important it is for my organisation tobuild such skills and capabilities within its leaders. Myexperience was excellent, so I hope that in the future evenmore employees of Medicover have the chance to take part inthe programme.
