Lab 14: Deploying Persistent Chat Server During this lab, you will gain hands-on experience with deploying Lync Server 2013 Persistent Chat.

Before You BeginThis lab depends on completion of prior labs

What You Will LearnAfter completing the exercises, you will be able to:

ScenarioContoso has deployed Lync Server 2013 and now plans to deploy persistent chat.

Exercise 1: Add Persistent Chat Pool to Topology 1. On L15S1FE01, in the Topology Builder console tree, expand Corp -> Lync Server

2013. right-click Persistent Chat pools and select New Persistent Chat Pool...

2. On the Define the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) page, in the FQDN field enter L15PCHAT01.contoso.com, then select the radio button for Single computer pool, and click Next.

3. On the Define properties of the Persistent Chat pool page, in the Display name of the Persistent Chat pool field enter Contoso Persistent Chat and then click Next.

5. On the Define the SQL Server store page, in the SQL Server store field drop-down select the L15S1SQL01.contoso.com\Default instance and click Next.

6. On the Define the file store page, in the Use a previously defined file store field drop-down select \\l15s1sql01.contoso.com\LyncShare and then click Next.

7. On the Select the next hop server page, in the Next hop pool field drop-down select pool.contoso.com Corp and then click Finish.

8. Publish the topology but before clicking Finish on the Publishing wizard complete page, Open the to-do list to see the tasks must be completed now that the Topology has been updated. The to-do list could include running local setup on other servers besides L15PCHAT01.

9. Complete the steps listed in the to-do list above. Run local setup on any servers identified in the to-do list and perform a full install on L15PCHAT01. This will take several minutes to complete. You will need to complete all 4 steps of the Lync Server 2013 Deployment Wizard on L15PCHAT01. You should be able to complete the steps based on what you learned in previous exercises so the individual steps are not identified here.

Exercise 2: Configure Persistent Chat Policy and Objects1. On L15S1FE01, in Lync Server Control Panel, in the navigation pane select

Persistent Chat, then select the Persistent Chat Policy tab to manage policies at a global, pool, site, or user level, including configuring the default global policy and creating one or more additional user and site policies for your deployment.

2. Enable Persistent Chat on the Global Policy and then click Commit.

3. Select the Persistent Chat Configuration tab and review the current Persistent Chat Configuration settings for chat history, maximum file size, etc.

Create a new Persistent Chat Category to allow users to create chat rooms.

4. Select the Category tab and click New to create a new Category and select service PersistentChatServer:L15PCHAT01.contoso.com where the category will be created and click OK.

5. Under New Category, do the following and then click Commit.

o Set the Category Name: Lync 2013 Training

o Enable File Upload

o Allowed Members: Alan Brewer, Amy Alberts and Bart Duncan

o Denied Members: Bob Kelly (Bob should never be able to see/subscribe)

o Creators: Alan Brewer, Amy Alberts and Bart Duncan

Create a chat room in the Lync 2013 training category

6. On VM WIN7B, sign out and then into Lync 2013 as user Bart Duncan (bduncan).

Note whether the Persistent chat icon now appears indicating that the user is enabled for Persistent chat.

7. In Lync 2013, select the Chat Rooms icon, click the + and select Create a Chat Room.

8. The Persistent Chat Room management page URL is launched in the browser. Enter the user's credentials when prompted.

9. On the My Rooms page, select Create a New Room.

If you receive, "You have no permission to create yet. Please contact your administrator." verify that Bart was added as a creator when you created the category.

10. On the Create a room page, give the room a name and description, add some members and click Create.

Time permitting you can use the other workstation VMs WIN7A and WIN8A to sign into Lync 2013 as other users and test various Persistent Chat features.
