We thank our parents and community members for all your tremendous support during the start of this school year. Operations are in full swing here at our amazing school. Thank you to everyone for having their walk- up pick-up and car rider signs. Safety continues to be a top priority at our school. Our panthers are doing a great job with our monthly safety drills and following important safety protocols. Our car line has improved in both the morning and the afternoon. Additionally, our school is embarking on several social/emotional learning opportunities for our students to express their own feelings and engage in pro- social communication skills. Together, we can ensure that our kids are well- equipped and well-prepared for success. Please help us support your child’s education by having them come to school on time and attend school each day. Excessive tardies and absences reduce a child’s opportunity for success. Research shows that regular attendance has a direct impact on your child’s achievement. Our day begins at 7:50 a.m. and students should be in the classroom prior to the 8:00 a.m. bell. As we discussed at open house, early sign-outs are no longer permitted past 1:00 p.m. This is to help preserve and protect the educational experiences for our students. There are many exciting events on the horizon this month. Our school will celebrate Down Syndrome Awareness Month. We invite all of our parents to our Thirteenth Annual Storybook Parade being held on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 8:20 a.m. Students will be allowed to come to school in a costume depicting one of their favorite storybook characters. All classes will then participate in a parade around the school to proudly show the variety of cherished literary characters contained within the pages of our books. Please help your child create a costume that will help transform them into a memorable character and make reading come alive. Please make sure to review the copy of the parade viewing map as a few minor changes have been made. Our annual Fall Festival will take place on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. Our PTA and staff are planning incredible games for the entire family along with Trunk and Treat in the back of the school. Please save the date for our new Family University evening titled, our curriculum carnival. This will be a fun, enjoyable and rewarding family evening centering around fun ways to help your child at home. The carnival will take place on Thursday, November 15 th and there will be games, food and tons of awesome activities. Please plan to attend this important family gathering. Hello Margate Panthers,

It is hard to believe that we are embarking on our second month of school. We thank our parents and community members for all your tremendous support during the start of this school year.

Title One Documents & Resources Please check out our website for important information regarding Title I policies and procedures. You will find a link from the home page to Title One Resources. In addition, to having a link to the District’s Title One Office along with the NCLB section 1118 and the Parent Involvement Policy 1165, you will find our Parental Involvement Plan for our school.

We also invite all of our parents to check out the following Parent Involvement Resource Center (PIRC):

Margate Elementary School was identified as a Title I School for the 2018-2019 school year, based on our number of eligible free and reduced lunch students. Schools with 50% or more of the student population receiving free or reduced priced meals meet Title I eligibility. Title I is a federally funded program for economically disadvantaged children who reside in school attendance areas with a high concentration of children from low income families. Since a high incidence of poverty in a school has a direct correlation with low academic student achievement, Title I funds are used to provide supplementary instruction to raise the achievement of students who are failing to meet the challenging state standards. Title I funded personnel are instructional or support staff that directly contribute to the education of children and parents. The purpose of Title I is to support school efforts to ensure that all children meet challenging academic standards and have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education. This purpose can be accomplished by

providing additional resources for high poverty schools to enhance educational opportunities for disadvantaged students. Title I funds must be used in addition to District and State Funds. All of the services students would receive in the absence of Title I must be in place before Title I funds are used. Title I funds may be used to benefit all of the students in a school wide project. All Title I schools are required to spend no less than 1% of their Title I allocation on parental involvement training activities. The Title I program for parents is designed to: 1. Inform parents about Title I regulations. 2. Provide literacy training. 3. Offer parents training in schools and the community on ways. 4. Encourage active participation in their children's schools and education. A Parent Compact (which is an agreement by staff, parents, and students to share the responsibility for improved student academics and then a means to build a partnership that will help student’s achieve the State’s high standards) was sent home with all of the students in their first day packet. We are asking that you please read over the document, sign, and return it back to school with your child to give to his/her teacher. More information will be forthcoming regarding parent trainings we have scheduled.

We communicate our expectations by using the acronym R.O.A.R., which stands for:
