A HEALTHY
BALANCE
(Springfield, IL)… In
today’s society, it is very
difficult for young college
students to work, go to
school, pay bills, and
balance everyday life. Many
students may not have the
funds to survive day-to-day,
which is why credit cards
have had an increased
usage. When students
usually get there first credit
card, many times they will
impulse buy and max out
the card, which usually
leads to a much bigger
problem for them when they
get out of college. Nellie
Mae, a large student loan
provider, found that college
freshmen carry an average
balance of $1,585. That
average balance swells to
$2,864 by their senior year.”
The amount of interest on
credit cards can be
devastating for a student
when he/she gets out of
college. Along with the high
interest rates, students may
also have to worry about
finding a job, developing
their career, student loans,
and much more.
With this said, I think
college students need to be a
little more aware of what
they’re getting into when
signing up for a credit card
by following these 7 tips
for handling a credit
card. Although you may
not like to read the small
print on the terms and
conditions, you should
still do so to fully under-
stand what you are get-
ting yourself into.
A
HEALTHY
BALANCE
Next, play with the
interest rates and
hypothetical amounts
you charge to the card to
determine how much
how much an item will
cost when interest is
incurred. Third, always
set a budget no matter
what, and stick to it.
Always make your
payments on-time, even
if you can’t make the
payment in full you will
still get charged less
interest. Lastly, never go
over the authorized credit
amount of the card be-
cause it will lead to addi-
tional charges.
What are the big reasons
gas prices have gone up
and are staying up? You
may also ask yourself,
what can I do to help the
prices go back down?
The single larg-
est reasons that affect
the price of gas are the
supply and demand of
the economy. If people
aren’t using as much
gasoline, then the whole
economy suffers. From
the technology of cars
and new gas as well as
efficient hybrids coming
out on the market, peo-
ple are using less and
less gas these days. Jobs
have been cut throughout
the automotive industry
including the refineries,
transportation jobs and
the manufacturing jobs.
Logistics are also being
improved so that
companies aren’t using
as much gas, airlines are
cutting flights, and
people are finding
alternative means to
travel due to the high gas
prices. This, in turn,
affects the demand of the
economy. Consequently,
Americans should still
keep purchasing gas as if
nothing were wrong.
This would then not have
such an effect on the
demand of the country.
Another large
role in the price of gas
prices staying so high, is
increased taxes on gas.
These taxes are up to
19% now! The EPA has
started to regulate the
amount of CO2 that
refineries are emitting.
This requires the
refineries to do more
work to purify the oil
even more.
Therefore,
causing the prices to rise.
Believe me, I am a firm
believer in global
warming, but there has
got to be another way to
stop all of these increases
in fuel.
I really hope
there is something that
can be done about this
pressing issue of the
times. For now, I will
continue to exercise my
right as an American and
continue supporting
buying gas while still
getting my word out
there for others to hear.
I’ve touched base a
couple times on my blog
about the steep gas prices
and economy in today’s
times. Gas these days is
extremely over-priced;
with the national average
still at $3.91 a gallon, it’s
time for the prices to
start moving down.
When I’m driving down
the road now, I, literally,
feel like there is money
being guzzled through
my car. With summer at
an end, there doesn’t
seem to be much hope
for the prices to drop…
So I’m sure you’re ask-
ing yourself, as many
others have…,
