OPENING PARTY MAY 29TH

FROM THE SAILING COMMODOREFROM THE SAILING COMMODOREFROM THE SAILING COMMODOREFROM THE SAILING COMMODORE Welcome to the 2010 sailing season. We have a lot of fun things happening this summer. You can find a complete schedule of events on our web site. Some of the early season highlights: Fleet meetings will be held on Friday, May 28th at the yacht club. X, O, and L at 6:30; MC at 7:30 and C at 8:30. These will be run by the fleet Captains and I will assist with the X, O, and L meetings. Parents are encouraged to come. This is a good time to get some questions an-swered. Judges/Signal boat team meetings will be Friday, June 4th at 7:30. This year we will also spend time on the signal boat discussing its operation such as anchoring, driving, docking etc. So if you are new or want to review, please join in. C/MC warm up racing starts on Saturday, May 22nd at 10:30. All other fleets start on Me-morial Day weekend. All judges/signal boat teams please check the schedule for these early races. We have four regattas this summer; MC Dorn-June 19 & 20, LBSS Opti on Monday, June 28, X Quad Lakes on July 6 & 7 and the ILYA C Invite on July 16, 17 & 18. We have great chairmen for each event and everyone's help is appreciated. Beulah has a his-tory of running great regattas and I am sure 2010 will add to that legacy! We've added a Champion's race this summer. It will be sailed as part of the Commodore's Day festivities. We will have sailors from the X, C and MC fleets competing in MCs to crown an inter-fleet champion. Also this day we will sail X, MC, and C fleets together on the race course for their individual Commodore's Cup Trophy. We will then award the Commo-dore's Cup trophies that night at the Ball. It should make for a fun day of sailing and add to the festivities of the Commodore's Ball. More details will follow, on these events. Lastly, as we start early season sailing, please think safety first and have your radios with you and keep a watchful eye on your fellow sailors.

Good Sailing, Jay HillerJay HillerJay HillerJay Hiller

Kate Klement Speaks About the Pillsbury

I am truly honored to be this year’s recipient of the Pillsbury Cup. It is truly one of my most proud ac-complishments. The X inland this year was run wonderfully, and Gull Lake is incredible. Sailing is such an important part of my life, and I hope everyone involved with it realizes how special it is. Thank you to my amazing crew, Teresa Westin, I’m so glad you decided to sail with me this summer and I could not have done this without you. Thank you to Lake Beulah for having such a strong sailing pro-gram, my coaches, my family, especially my brother, Neal, and to everyone who has supported me and pushed me to sail fast. It means the world to me.

BEST of the BEST ILYA champs from all classes are eligible to re-ceive the prestigious Pills-bury Award. Our Kate Klement was selected by the ILYA delegates after winning 3 races at the X

champs.

WORK DAY FESTIVITIES ON MAY 1st By Don Franzene The Next Annual LBYC Spring Work Day and Cosmic Breakfast Revival Meeting will commence at 8:00 AM on the First of May. Don Stein will demonstrate various cleaning products and equipment and Rev. Martin Bar will officiate for the Benediction. This may seem rather early in the season for this most festive event but we need to get a jump on the Bilge Pullers who will be using the club on the 7th. I know there are both C Scow and MC Regattas on the same weekend so excused absences will be granted to all those who bring a note from the appropriate PRO, along with evidence of registra-tion. Sailors lacking an excused absence will be assigned to clean the canal between the club and Dock-side. There should be ample time after the completion of work to engage in the other cultural outdoor activities that traditionally commence on May First in Wisconsin. No rain date has been scheduled be-cause it will not rain.

THE LBYC WEBSITE GETS A NEW LOOK By Steve Rotier The Club website has been updated this year and you will be receiving an email with some introductory information from the website provider, “Club Express”. The site is located on the internet in the same place it has always been at www.lbyc.us. You can view all race, social, and sailing news and informa-tion from the main screen when you arrive at the site. A new feature is the member directory which is available to members only. When you receive your introductory email, you will be asked to establish a “User ID” and “Password”. This will allow you to enter the member’s only section of the website which contains the member’s directory and information about your membership. Your “User ID” and “Password” can be used by your entire family. Information has been entered into the member’s direc-tory for you. Please set up your password view or edit your family information as desired. Joe Skotar-zak or Candace Porter are your contacts for any questions or help. Many thanks to Joe and Candace for the hours of work they put into getting the website up and going. However, we cannot move on without thanking Rob for the volunteer time and effort he put into our previous website. It has served us well and has been the basis for our updated website. Thanks Rob.

YEARBOOK IN LIVING COLOR Thanks to all of you who submitted photos this year. Your LBYC Yearbook is only as good as the pho-tos you submit. There are 500 photos in this year’s book. Thanks to all of you who contributed and, in particular, to those of you who chose color pages. There are 36 color pages or ads which gives the book real pizzazz! The book is off to the printer with one last chance to proofread. Thanks to all of you. Candace Porter

It’s a little later this year but join us on Memorial Day Weekend to open up the season with a smashing Opening Day Party. Ribs it is and Saz’s is the caterer. It is sure to be a hit. For those of you unfamiliar with the caterer, Saz’s has the ribs of choice in Milwaukee. See them after the ball game or at the Summerfest grounds. With grilled ribs at the club, how can you miss the event. Salad, asparagus and potatoes to accompany along with the Board’s homemade des-serts, it’s your return to summer fun. Look for more details on the new website or in your next MAINSHEET. A children’s macaroni and cheese and hotdog buffet will also be available at a much reduced price. Please enjoy this catered meal as three Board members and spouses will be absent while watching and volunteering at Collegiate Nationals in Madison.

OPENING PARTY MAY 29TH

Friday Nights at the Club By Candace Porter

The Grist Mill, Troy Strand’s new restaurant, in East Troy, will cater our casual Friday nights. You may remember that Troy catered our Christmas Party. Look for a variety of offerings but no more “grill your own”. He will have a meal for the kids and adults. Plan your Friday night’s at the club for your favorite beer and casual meal. It’ll be a treat after the drive from the city.

Bar Offerings By Candace Porter

Time to gear up for the ’10 season. Your trusty Finance Committee reviewed our state and de-clared – “BEER PRICES HOLD STABLE”. So come to the club for an MGD, Miller Lite

or Bud Light for $2.50. We are adding Blue Moon to our premium beer offerings. Fat Tire, Heineken, Spotted Cow will round out our regular fare. The last spigot will most likely vary throughout the summer as we did last year. Mark Kiernan is our local “Bud Guy” so look for his suggestions for the “8th Tap”.

Sailing Gear for Sail Coral Reef Sailing apparel is your one-stop shop to outfit your crew for the summer. From foul weather gear to everyday wear, Coral Reef is offering pricing that fits your budget but also provides added income to the College Nationals. From now until the event May 25th, a portion of the proceeds goes to the UW Sailing Team. Coral Reef will personalize your gear with either silk-screening or embroidery at your request. They carry the UV-protected, dry weave anti-wicking shirts. http://www.coralreefsailing.net for your summer season’s needs. Mention collegiate nationals for your donation.

Welcome to a new summer season. The Sidestays’ calendar is set and ready to be put into action. I would like to thank in advance all those who have volunteered to chair the Sidestays’ activities this year. I would also like to thank Cathy Riedl for agreeing to move into the Vice President’s position and Judy Skotarzak who will fill the secretary’s position. We wish Judy and Gary Duvernell the best as they settle into becoming Arizona residents.

Mark your calendar:

June 8th first noon luncheon.

June 15th 9:30 refreshments

10:00 General Meeting All women of LBYC are invited to this kick off meeting. The Sidestays’ organiza-tion is proud of its tradition of service to the Yacht Club and sailing school. Con-sider becoming a part of this tradition.

A Note From AltaA Note From AltaA Note From AltaA Note From Alta

Alta Stumpf, currently of Prescott, AZ, celebrated her 100th birthday on November 14th. She asked that we print this note to her LBYC friends. “Thanks for all the cards and notes for my 100th. No way can I answer all the many cards. I survived it due to help from my daughters Laura and Sheri. I had pink and red roses and tons of balloons. One neighbor from Humphrey Lane even sent a contribution to the Prescott Library in my name! My former AFS’ers from Swe-den and France came bringing French champagne in their suitcases, plus chocolates.

Thanks and love to all”. AltaAltaAltaAlta

Join your fellow members in Madison to celebrate our college sailors performing at this high level of competition. In honor of that distinction, Beulah has been named the sponsor of the Women’s Nationals Banquet to be hosted at the Madison event.
