SOMETHING UNEXPECTED

Marin Horizon is a breath of fresh air. It leads the way in offering

a creative, challenging education in a highly-collaborative

environment. My daughters have gained a strong sense of self,

confidence, and community, nurtured by the outstanding faculty

and thoughtful program. They are being well prepared for

the opportunities that lie ahead and are developing the self-

knowledge to go after what’s right for them.

— ANDREA ELKORT, CURRENT PARENT

Marin Horizon School believes that every child can

grow up to make a difference in the world. Every

day, our faculty enthusiastically delivers a top-notch

education to children from preschool through

middle school in joyful classrooms where academics

and integrity are of equal importance. We do this

because the world doesn’t just need smart people.

The world needs smart people with the courage to

be kind and to stand up for what’s right.

Come see for yourself, and if you’ve been here before, come visit again. There is always something unexpected at Marin Horizon School.

Marin Horizon is a top-notch academic institution, and we produce confident,

compassionate, independent people.

Our graduates go on to attend prestigious

high schools and universities, but what we’re

most proud of is the people they become.

SOMETHING UNEXPECTED

Knowledge of Self Students develop an understanding of their personal

learning styles and take an active role in their own assessments and goal setting in an environment

where it’s safe to take risks.

Ethical Decision Making By building communication and critical thinking skills from a young age, students interact respectfully with

each other while becoming decision makers who are compelled to do the right thing.

Creative Problem Solving Group Process

Students learn to work collaboratively and embrace ingenuity in identifying and solving problems.

Fellowship Instead of sitting on the sidelines, our students are encouraged to work out their differences.

They cheer for each other, rather than compete against each other.

We focus on character building through:

more than educators

Team teaching has been a cornerstone of our school

since day one, offering differentiated learning to

every student. Our teachers collaborate to create

inspiring learning environments for all, while

providing the individualized attention every child

needs to succeed.

Driving our team teaching model is a dedicated

faculty. Their passion and energy for teaching make

learning meaningful and fun, and their collaboration

sets a positive tone for our students. Most of our

teachers have taught at Marin Horizon for more

than a decade, providing familiarity, continuity, and

experience students and parents can count on year

after year.

At the heart of Marin Horizon is our faculty—they lead by example and make every student feel understood and supported.

My teachers were also my mentors and

this allowed for individualized learning

both socially and scholastically. Each

class represented a family environment—

united by Marin Horizon School’s ideals—

where I felt cared for, respected, and

empowered to succeed.

Our student-to-teacher ratio

cultivates relationships and

Marin Horizon believes that all faces, voices, and experiences are valued equally.

SOMETHING UNEXPECTED

We use a spiral curriculum that introduces

children to ideas and concepts at a young age

that become more in-depth as they mature. Our

multi-age classrooms foster an organic approach

as younger students interact with their older

classmates. Our curriculum is also grounded in

multicultural studies, and we celebrate diversity

in its many forms.

more than our neighborhood

While our campus may appear small, our offerings

are expansive. Students engage with the larger

community, embracing other cultures, respecting the

environment, and developing a global perspective.

Day trips for all students and overnight camping

trips for students in kindergarten through 8th

grade expose students to different ecosystems

while building valuable life skills. Through our

Environmental & Outdoor Education Program,

6th-8th graders develop self-confidence and

teamwork as they gain an appreciation of the

outdoors through fun and challenging activities

in and around the Bay Area.

We support no-waste lunches and on-campus

recycling, school-wide and neighborhood projects to

instill community values. In addition, age-appropriate

service learning projects promote volunteerism as

an integral part of life.

Marin Horizon sees beyond our immediate surroundings. We emphasize outdoor learning and real-life experiences.

SOMETHING UNEXPECTED

Our Global Studies Program provides an

opportunity for 8th grade students to

participate in an exchange program with

students from Panama. Through Colegio

Episcopal de Panama Intercambio, students

engage in language and cultural studies,

community service, home-stays, and sight-

seeing, while gaining a global perspective.

more than the school dayMarin Horizon understands that what happens during regular school hours is just the beginning. That’s why we’re more than an 8-3 school; we’re a home away from home.

From cooking to world cultures to swimming, our traditional summer camp features a wide array of activities for younger students to expand their knowledge while having fun.

SOMETHING UNEXPECTED

Our highly-acclaimed summer camp has

been running for nearly 30 years, and we

are a state-licensed facility, so all head

teachers have either California State or

Montessori teaching credentials.

Horizon Center Extended Care provides safe, fun before- and after-school supervision as well as vacation childcare for Marin Horizon students from Primary through 8th grade.

Marin Horizon students enjoy after-school enrichment programs that include sports, crafts, drama, and other activities that foster creativity and build valuable life skills.

Our adventure and Spanish camps for older students promote exploration and learning during summer break.
