Contemplative Retreat Parishioners of MHOC are invited to a Marist College initiative and join Br Bill Sullivan for a contem- plative retreat on Saturday 20 October from 9.30am to 3pm in the Parish. Br Bill will guide participants through a contemplative process, which in- volved time to be still, reflect and encounter God. Thank you for your time Bishop Pat. This weekend the Mary Help of Christians Parish Conference of St Vincent de Paul will collect dona- tions for the Ozanam Sunday Appeal. The Ozanam Appeal is for our twinned conferences in Indonesia. Our relation- ship with our twins is sustained with the dona- tions of the Parish. All are in quite poor areas of Indonesia. The money is used to assist with education for local children and with com- munity development projects in the local area. Credit Card facilities are available after each Mass. Please give generously. Changes in our Parish for 2018 - New Assistant Priest - We have been blessed with the appointment of recently ordained Fr Adrian Chan as our Assistant Parish Priest., starting December 7th. We look forward to welcoming Fr Adrian to our Parish. School of Religion closed for 2018 - the Parish School of Religion has finished for 2018 as of this week and will commence in February 2019 for the new Sacramental Year. Children Liturgy of the Word wrapped up - with heavy hearts we have had to cancel Childrens Liturgy of the Word. We hope in 2019 we can get new volun- teers to help coordinate and run the pro- gram so our children can receive the Word of God tailored to their little ears. Check it out. 30 - September Social Justice SundayThis years Social Justice Statement is titled: Place to Call Home: Making a home for everyone in our land. The Statement confronts the growing challenge of homelessness and housing insecurity in Australia. For further details about the Social Justice State- ment, visit the Australian Catholic Social Justice Council website (www.socialjustice.catholic.org.au) or call (02) 8306 3499 Volunteers for Parish Rosary Crusade: The Rosary Crusade has operated in our parish for well over 40 years. The family commits to recite the rosary for the intenons of the Parish, each day for a week while they hold our statue of Mary, and then pass the statue to the next family on Sunday. Currently, each family is involved about twice per year. A new roster is now being prepared for the next 12 months. Most of our parcipants have been on the roster from the beginning of the Crusade, but the passing years are impacng on all, and we really need an influx of new parcipants. Please contact Pat Doherty (ph) 6286 1985. We pray for Victor Bassingthwaighte and Ella De Simone who will be bapsed at Sacred Heart Church this weekend. We pray that the light of Christ will guide them today and throughout their lives. 10 October CES Dinner Forum – Why Neighbours Matter6 for 6.30pm in the Corinna 2 Room at the Southern Cross Club, Woden. The speaker will be Hugh Mackay, social researcher and bestselling author who will focus on the role of compassion in lowering anxiety and building stronger communities. The conversation will be facilitated by John Warhust, Chair of the CES Committee. Cost: $65 per person for a 3-course meal with wine, juice & tea/coffee.
