Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord April 4, 2021

CHRIST IS RISEN

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I would like to begin this Easter season by thanking you for all your support and kindness, especially during this exceedingly difficult and challenging year. Your phone calls, messages and cards are so appreciated and very affirming. I also believe that I and the staff are not the only ones who experience this kindness from you – I have no doubt those around you appreciate your love and support also.

I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and acknowledge the hard work of my fellow clergy for all their dedicated and committed service to Mary, Mother of the Church Parish. A special thank you goes out to our deacons – your selfless commitment and love for your God and parish is unquestionable. Fr. Anson and Fr. Steve thank you for your support and dedication to God and the parish.

A successful parish can not be based on any one person but on the coming together of all its people. We are blessed in our parish to have very generous people who just want to do good; I’d like to thank our:

Ushers Eucharist Ministers Lectors Altar Rosary Society St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry Counters Legion of Mary Holy Name Society

Please forgive me if I have omitted anyone or group, believe me it’s not intentional. I would like to acknowledge and show appreciation to our office staff: Larry, Cathy, Peggy, Patricia, Sean, Margaret, Carol, and Alfonso – they are so hard-working and faithful to our parish and great support and help to me and I know you feel the same. We are so blessed.

The Responsorial Psalm response for our Easter Sunday liturgy is incredibly beautiful and uplifting, let it lift us and carry us throughout the coming year:

‘This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.’ Ps 118

Have a blessed and holy Easter.

We can hardly grasp the joy and glory of Easter Sunday! The disciples didn’t understand, but they came to believe. So can we. Easter Sunday is more than a celebration of the resurrection of Christ. It is also an invitation to each of us to preach the gospel and take

our place in the long line of witnesses to Jesus’ resurrected life. This is why we are so awed at the mystery: not only that Jesus was raised from the dead but that God entrusts us with Jesus’ mission and to be witness of God’s mighty deed of resurrection. It appears as though God trusts us a great deal. (Living Liturgy, p.112) Through your support of our conference and your practice of self-sacrifice, you bring new life to others, thereby living as witnesses to the Resurrection!

If you or anyone you know in our local communities of Bordentown, Roebling or Florence needs assistance, call our

Jesus the fisherman pulls them wet and dripping from the baptismal waters into a new life of community, service and joy. May we continue to respond to our own call to make a difference in the lives of others through our gift of faith. EASTER PRAYER Dear God, In this Easter season of hope and new life, help us to be aware of how and where we are needed to spread the Good News to others. Alleluia! Amen. READING THE BIBLE When reading the Bible, it’s important to approach your reading by keeping two ideas at the forefront of your mind: read to come to know the God revealed in the inspired word and to know God’s will for your life. Bible reading should take place in the context of prayer and faith. Before you begin reading, ask the Holy Spirit to open your mind and heart to God and his will. (USCCB.org) MISSIONARY CHILDHOOD COIN BOXES Thank you to those that have considered helping those in need. Whether you have last year’s coin box or you used a sandwich bag from home to collect loose change or small bills during Lent we will be designating two weekends after Easter to bring in your donations at all weekend Masses. We will provide large bins at each of the Church doors. Donations can also be dropped off in the Parish Office or through the OSV online portal. God sacrificed so much for us that as Catholic’s we are asked to do the same for our brothers and sis-ters.

Christ our Passover has been sacrificed, alleluia; therefore let us keep the feast with the unleavened bread for purity and truth, alleluia, alleluia.

IT’S ABOUT “TIME” Tuesday, April 13 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Time is a gift from God, every second of it. Let’s examine our use of it. Can it be our friend, enjoying every bit of it? Does it hang heavy, fly by or drag along? How can we befriend it, savor it and glorify God in the way we use it.? Some people procrastinate, others ruin their relationship with time by anxiously rushing. Does your relationship with “time” need a little attention? Take some “time” with it. Donation: $25, with lunch and materials; Zoom $20.

IN-PERSON ONLY

CONTEMPLATING GOD IN NATURE CELEBRATING EARTH DAY Thursday, April 22 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Open your eyes, ears and hearts to God’s glory in nature. We will reflect on Thomas Merton’s nature writings collected in When the Trees Say Nothing and let his words inspire us to be more attentive to the love of God vibrating through nature everywhere. Then we will spend some time outdoors at Francis House enjoying what God has created and reflecting on God as a loving Creator. All is a gift of God that helps each one of us to know, love and serve God with joy and gratitude. Donation: $25, with lunch.

THE FIVE THINGS WE CANNOT CHANGE THE PEACE IN EMBRACING THEM Friday, April 23 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM

There are certain facts in life we cannot change, the un-avoidable “givens” of human existence. We will look at some of these: Everything changes and ends, things do not always go according to plan, pain is a part of life, people are not loving and loyal all the time, to name a few. Seeing these as our part in the Life of Jesus, helps us drop our deep-seated resistance to these “givens.” We become truly free to discover the deep richness that union with Christ offers. Donation: $25, includes lunch and materials; Zoom $20. 7-DAY SILENT DIRECTED RETREAT

May 23 – 30 Sunday to Sunday Begins 7:00 PM – Ends 10:00 AM

Receive the healing and transforming grace of seven days with God, savoring the silence and prayer that open your whole being to God’s Word and Presence. Daily liturgy, spiritual direction and optional contemplative prayer periods are included. Donation: $575; $50 non-refundable deposit.
