Daily Prayer of the Month
Heavenly Father (Abba), We ask you hear the prayers of your earthly disciples not only on the World Day of Prayer but every day. We pray that through the intercession of Your ascended Son and if it be Your will, You grant the many requests of Your people. This
Cinco de Mayo, may we celebrate the origins of all peoples who make up this great nation. Through the strength given all of us through the Holy Spirit, as on Pentecost to your Apostles, may we proclaim Your greatness and announce the gospel and the Most Holy Trinity to all. We pray you keep the service men and women in Your care as we observe Armed Forces Day and bring all of those whom we remember on Memorial Day who gave the ultimate sacrifice into Your Divine realm. May our hearts leap for joy when we hear Your call as the babe in Elizabeth's womb responded to Mary's greeting. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.
Please pray this prayer along with our Prayer Partners today and throughout this month. If you have a suggestion for prayer intention
please let us know at [email protected]
Did You Know? There are several methods to memorialize, designate a
special intention, or celebrate an important life event for someone special in your life. Consider the celebration of a memorial mass, the dedication of a Tabernacle Sanctuary Lamp, or inscribing a personalized hymnal to honor a loved one. These options are available by
contacting the Blessed Trinity and St. Patrick Parish office at 687-1068. If you request a Mass for a family member or friend and you would like to bring up the gifts, please notify the ushers at the beginning of Mass.

Gospel Meditation Encourage Deeper
Understanding of Scripture May 13, 2018 7th Sunday of Easter
This Sunday's Gospel is known as the "priestly prayer" of Jesus. The entire passage is Jesus entrusting us to the Father. "When I was with them I protected them ? I guarded them," Jesus says. He asks his Father, "Keep them in your name." In this prayer of Jesus, we see the paradoxical tension of our life as Christians in the world. He anticipates struggle for the believer. He describes it in strong words, words that could even appear frightening to the believer. "I gave them your word, and the world hated them." Not only that, but with our eyes on eternal life, we "do not belong to the world." And yet in the midst of those realities, Jesus doesn't take us out of the world. On the contrary, "as you sent me into the world, so I sent them into the world." Christians live in this tension daily. The call of Jesus often defies nice, neat categories. We uphold justice as virtue yet are invited to love our enemies. We offer gifts and generous hospitality to others while being reminded of the value of temperance. We are called to teach the truth of right and wrong without losing sight of the beam in our own eye. It can be difficult to find the balance in our own lives, and a Church that preaches moral perfection can easily fall under scrutiny when it falls short. In the midst of these complications, Jesus offers a message of hope. He is well aware of the contradictions into which he sends us, and his Father will equip us accordingly. "Consecrate them in truth." "Keep them from the evil one." Jesus does not abandon us to the tensions of our time but remains near at hand by the grace alive in his Church.
