Pentecost Sunday
A New Memorial On March 3, Pope Francis decreed that a new Memorial will be inscribed in the Roman Calendar throughout the world which celebrates the Blessed Virgin Mary as "Mother of the Church." This memorial has been assigned to “the Monday following Pentecost” and is to be celebrated at our parish as a Solemnity because she is
our parish's patroness. This year Pentecost is Sunday, May 20 which means we will celebrate the solemnity on Monday, May 21 at 7:30am Mass followed by a social in the Parish Hall. Mary gave birth to the Head of the Church, Jesus Christ, and on Pentecost Mary was also present with the Apostles when the Holy Spirit descended on the faithful and the Church was born. Therefore, she is both the Mother of Christ and Mother of the Church.
Congratulations to all our Graduates We would like to extend a special congratulations to all who will be graduating this year. To all of our middle school, high school, and college graduates, may the Holy Spirit continue to guide you on your journey of life. There will be a special blessing at the 10am Mass, TODAY May 20 for all the High School graduates.
Silver Circle The next Silver Circle potluck is May 24 at 11am in the Parish Hall. Dinner will be served at 11:45. Music will be provided by Wayne Nowicki on his accordion. If you are in need of a
ride, please call 788-5483, ext. 5.

Joseph Walijewski A Mass celebrating the closing of the investigation of Father Joe’s life and cause for sainthood will be offered on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Workman Cathedral. If you are unable to attend, you can watch the Mass live online at www.diolc.org/live. Please continue to keep the Cause in your prayers.

Scrip For Your Summer Driving Summer is just around the corner. As you begin heading out on the highways and byways make sure your car is nice and clean with Ship Shape
car wash gift cards for $10 and that your gas tank is full with $10, $20, $50 and $100 Kwik Trip cards.
Are You Getting Your Envelopes? If you are NOT receiving monthly tithing envelopes (or using ACH), please call the Parish office at 788-5483, ext. 3 for Holly to make sure you are officially registered or to make sure we have your correct address. If you wish to set up monthly bank withdrawals or to find out about online giving, Holly can also help you at the same phone number.
Piano Needed As we furnish our lower level Religious Education Center this coming summer, another priority is the Music Room. We will need a piano. In the spirit of taking a step toward quality, we will move the sanctuary’s studio piano to the Music Room and seek a higher quality piano – perhaps even a grand piano – which is built with the depth and richness to fill our larger church.
We received a recommendation from a professional to obtain a piano that is 5’8” or 6’0”, perhaps with a wood tone to match our church.
These are the recommendations we received: -The church will need a grand piano with not only excellent tone and touch, but also it will need to be consistent and very durable. It will be utilized often and needs to hold up under constant playing. -A grand piano in a church should be a musical instrument that all pianists at any playing level will be able to convey the music easily with dynamics and control. A performance level grand will allow this control. -The grand piano should be musically versatile and sound good whether it's accompanying a vocal soloist, choir, other instruments or being used as a solo instrument. -It should be a stable instrument that can be tuned and remain in tune for the most part of a year. (I would recommend that a Climatrol system be installed. The humidity changes in a church can cause tuning issues, this system will help the tuning stability.)
New pianos fitting this description cost $25,000 - $35,000 – and the best can reach $170,000. If you know anyone who is willing to donate or sell their piano, we would be interested to see if it matches our goals.

Building Our Future Together
Significant landscaping progress is being made on our campus … especially on the west side. At this writ-ing, La Crosse Backhoe was finishing the removal of all the old blacktop and hauling in black dirt in preparation for Winona Nursery to hydro-seed the west area. On Friday, Winona Nursery was scheduled to re-shape the west end of the boulevard along Weston Street and to plant trees. This coming week we are looking forward to having sod and plantings installed around the building.
The diagram below indicates where trees are planted. Eastern White Pine, Kentucky Coffee, and Maple Trees on the west end; Gingko and Linden along the boule-vard of Weston Street and a Locust tree on the boule-vard of 19th Street. Juniper trees are on the west end of the storage shed; Ornamental Jack Pear and Ivory Silk Japanese Lilac trees along Horton Street; a Columnar Norway Spruce is near the west entrance to the Parish Hall, and 3 Black Hills Spruce are on the east side of the Parish Hall.
Parking stripes were completed on the new parking areas on the west side of the Parish Hall … including identifying several stalls designated for handicap park-ing next to the building. While we have incorporated the convenience of having entrance and exit from both Weston and Horton Streets, we want to point out the driveway is not an extension of 20th Street; it is not a through street.
Both the west and east entrances of the Parish Hall are now open for access into the church. Knowing the hallway may be a little long for some people with mobili-ty challenges, we have installed two pews along the hall to provide a little break in the walk, if needed. If there are no functions scheduled in the Parish Hall, the doors into the Parish Hall will be locked.
Work is proceeding on the build-out of the Religious Education Center in the lower level of the Parish Hall and is on schedule to be essentially completed within a month. Please keep our parish, the construction
workers, and landscapers in your prayers as we Build Our Future Together!
