Why didn't the apostles immediately recog-nize the Risen Lord Jesus when he greeted them at the Sea of Tiberias, near the sea of Galilee? John gives us a clue. John states that Peter had decided to return to his home district of Galilee, very likely so he could resume his fishing career. Peter was discouraged and didn't know what to do after the tragedy of Jesus' death! He went back to his previous job as a fisherman out of uncertainty for his future. Why did Jesus choose to reveal himself to the apostles at the Sea of Galilee - and right after they had spent a whole night of futile fishing? The Risen Lord was waiting on the shore for Peter and the other apostles. When their boat drew near the shore, Jesus questioned them and then gave a command to lower their nets into the sea. When their nets began to burst at the great amount of fish, John, the beloved disciple, recognized that it was the Lord who was speaking to them. Peter then immediately leaped from the boat and ran to the Lord. Do you run to the Lord Jesus when you meet setbacks and disappointments, and when your faith is being put to the test? The Lord Jesus is always ready to renew us in faith and to give each of us fresh hope in his promises for us. Why did Jesus perform this miraculous catch of fish after his third resurrection appearance to the apostles? By looking back to the first miracle of the great catch of fish, we can recognize the significance of Jesus repeating this miracle again for his apostles. The first miracle took place at the beginning of Jesus' ministry in Galilee when the Lord called Peter to leave all and follow him. After Peter had fished all night and caught nothing, Jesus commanded him to lower his nets. When his nets began to break under the weight of the great amount, Jesus then spoke to Peter and gave him a new calling and mission - from now on he would be "catching people" for the kingdom of God (Luke 5:10). Jesus repeats this miracle for Peter to remind him that he must continue his mission of "catching people" and "making disciples" for the kingdom of Christ.
¿Por qué los apóstoles no reconocieron inmediatamente al Señor Jesús resucitado cuando los saludó en el mar de Tiberíades, cerca del mar de Galilea? Juan nos da una pista. Juan afirma que Pedro había decidido regresar a su distrito natal de Galilea, muy probablemente para poder reanudar su carrera de pescador. ¡Pedro estaba desanimado y no sabía qué hacer después de la tragedia de la muerte de Jesús! Volvió a su trabajo anterior como pescador por incertidumbre sobre su futuro. ¿Por qué escogió Jesús revelarse a los apóstoles en el mar de Galilea, y justo después de haber pasado toda una noche de pesca inútil? El Señor resucitado estaba esperando en la orilla a Pedro y los otros apóstoles. Cuando su bote se acercó a la orilla, Jesús los interrogó y luego dio una orden para que bajaran sus redes al mar. Cuando sus redes comenzaron a estallar ante la gran cantidad de peces, Juan, el discípulo amado, reconoció que era el Señor quien les estaba hablando. Pedro saltó inmediatamente del bote y corrió hacia el Señor. ¿Corres hacia el Señor Jesús cuando te encuentras con reveses y decepciones, y cuando tu fe está siendo puesta a prueba? El Señor Jesús siempre está dispuesto a renovarnos en la fe y darnos a cada uno de nosotros una nueva esperanza en sus promesas para nosotros. ¿Por qué Jesús realizó esta captura milagrosa de peces después de su tercera aparición en resurrección ante los apóstoles? Al recordar el primer milagro de la gran captura de peces, podemos reconocer la importancia de que Jesús repita este milagro nuevamente para sus apóstoles. El primer milagro tuvo lugar al comienzo del ministerio de Jesús en Galilea cuando el Señor llamó a Pedro para que lo dejara todo y lo siguiera. Después de que Pedro había pescado toda la noche y no había atrapado nada, Jesús le ordenó que bajara las redes. Cuando sus redes comenzaron a romperse bajo el peso de la gran cantidad, Jesús le habló a Pedro y le dio un nuevo llamamiento y una nueva misión: de ahora en adelante estaría "atrapando personas" para el reino de Dios (Lucas 5:10). Jesús repite este milagro para que Pedro le recuerde que debe continuar su misión de "atrapar personas" y "hacer discípulos" para el reino de Cristo.
