urday night was an opportunity to relax with great music
provided by the two girls from their band D‘Ban Jac inter-
spersed with skits and songs from the Nowra Players. Con-
gratulations and best wishes to Geoff Hobart on being
elected as your next District Governor. I am sure that Geoff
with wife Cherie will have a very successful and rewarding
year and have the full support of all the Clubs in our Dis-
trict. Congratulations also to Gary Parker and Allan
McDonald on their election as they progress towards be-
coming your future District Governors and to Brian Rope
for becoming a Director on the NSW-ACT Save Sight and
Health Care Foundations. A big thank you to retiring Direc-
tor Owen Quinn for his excellent work for the Foundations
over the past three years.
As I mentioned earlier Ambarvale High
School Leos Club was chartered on
the 30th August and now have 22 mem-
bers and Yass Lions Club are hoping to
form a Leo Club at Yass High School.
A Guiding Lion and New Clubs Work-
shop was held in Goulburn on the 6th
November, the purpose of the Course
was to help Zone Chairmen identify
suitable locations where new Clubs
could be formed. Last year we lost Can-
berra Ginninderra, Robertson and The
Australian Parliament Lions Clubs and
on the 30th September Canberra Lake
Burley Griffin Lions Club handed in
it‘s Charter. Although most of the mem-
bers from these Clubs transferred to
other Clubs there is a need to identify
areas where new Clubs could be formed
to halt this trend.
On a positive note we have shown a membership growth to
the end of September of 29 members and I‘m very pleased
that, during my visits, I have had the privilege of inducting
many new Members.
By the time you receive this Newsletter the Christmas sea-
son will be fast approaching and Judy and I wish you all a
very happy and safe break over the holiday period.
Warren Woods, N2 District Governor 2010-2011
DISTRICT GOVERNOR‘S MESSAGE.
At the time of writing this report Judy and I have visited
40 Lions Clubs, the 6 Lioness Clubs, the Charter of the
Ambarvale High School, our District Convention together
with numerous other Club visits and meetings. It never
ceases to amaze us of the diverse nature of our Clubs and
to learn in detail the projects that they carry out. All Clubs
truly practice the motto of our Organisation ―We Serve‖
with their ability to assist individuals as well as our com-
munities. We appreciate the courtesies extended to us dur-
ing our visits and the opportunity to see many projects that
Clubs have carried out over the years.
The District Convention held at the
Bomaderry Bowling Club on the 8th-
10th October was an outstanding suc-
cess and in this regard sincere thanks
to Convention Chairman PDG Ian
Hughes and his Committee for their
efforts and dedication. Sincere thanks
also to Nowra Lions Club ably as-
sisted by the Bomaderry Lions Club
and the Shoalhaven Lioness Club for a
job well done. The highlight of the
Convention was the Keynote speaker,
Father Chris Riley who spoke on the
plight of street kids and his organisa-
tions dedication to help as many as
possible back to a normal life.
I dedicated this Convention to DGE
Bruce Dodd and I continued with his
theme, ―Youth –our Future‖, and Fa-
ther Riley correctly pointed out that ―Children are now
they must be helped now‖. Lions Lady Judy and I pre-
sented a framed 2010 Lions International Peace Poster to
Lions Lady Rita Dodd, the Peace Poster being one of
Bruce‘s favourite youth programs. During this presentation
I wore a cap, Bruce‘s favourite headwear, again to honour
the memory of DGE Bruce Dodd (see photo above).
Other Convention highlights were the Flag Ceremony, the
very moving Memorial Service, the emotional Children of
Courage Awards together with the other very capable
speakers who brought us up to date on their projects. Sat-

It is hard to believe that we have already passed the 3 month
hurdle and that the District Convention has just been success-
fully completed. During this time I have called upon many of
the Club Secretaries to do that little bit more regarding the Li-
ons database. I have asked many of you to carry out updates to
the membership records so that we satisfy Australia Post re-
quirements. In doing so this have made the records capable of
being readily revised by future secretaries without having to
resort to the efforts you have made. This was on top of those
records that we knew that the address was not correct and re-
quired changes made.
When this project was started over 25% of members records
had errors in the way information was recorded. That currently
stands at less than 5%. This has been a mighty effort for some
and they have had to overcome some technical difficulties with
the database on the way. The other benefit of carrying out this
work is that more members should receive their Australian Lion
Magazine with greater surety.
Family Membership
In carrying out this project I have also recognised that there
were many Lions not taking advantage of the family member-
ship options, which give you an ongoing reduction in dues for
the members of the household (other than the head of the
household) If you believe that you are in that category check
with your Club Secretary. He can tell you if you are already
registered as such or if not check to see if you can be and then
carry out the necessary work on line.
Returns 1 & 2
Club secretaries also were given the task of getting returns 1
and 2 to me before the convention. The importance of these two
documents can‘t be underestimated. I am pleased to report that I
received returns 1 and 2 from EVERY club in the district
(maybe some later than others) and this level of compliance is
congratulated. There will not be the same degree of flexibility
regarding late returns for the equivalent returns for the Multiple
District Convention so maybe they can come in a tad earlier
PU101 reporting in April 2011
It is not too early to start getting ready for the PU101 which is
required by April next year. PU101 reporting is going to clash
with the Multiple District Convention in Launceston. I will be
chasing you all for this document and the important online re-
porting. Make sure your Club and you are ready for this. Possi-
bly organise for elections to be held two weeks earlier than you
normally have them. Your timely reporting on this will ensure a
high degree of accuracy in the directory next year for District
201N2.
Membership Address Changes
In the Australian Lion they have once again placed that little
note towards the end of the magazine asking for Lions to con-
tact the Cabinet Secretary regarding change of address. I know
that you are all too smart to fall for that as the person to see is
your CLUB Secretary. He is the person who maintains the data
that is responsible for having the correct address in the data-
base. So, if you are changing your postal address for any reason
contact your Club Secretary and ask him/her to update the data.
TIPS for Reporting on WMMR
The old saying ―vote early – vote often‖ applies to the WMMR
reporting. You can access the database and make as many
changes as you like as often as you like during the month. You
only need to at least do it once during the month.
When reporting unless you have a specific reason for doing
say ALWAYS select the current month as the option.
The only reason you would report using an earlier
month is for showing a drop or new member. Unless
you have at least one entry for the current month
(including No Membership Activity for Month) your
club will not be shown as reporting for that particular
month.

The spectacles are sorted, cleaned and regraded in one of our
three four depots before being labelled and prepared for dis-
patch in graded groups. Our workforce is provided by persons
on Community Service Orders, trainees under Work for the
Dole, persons with Mutual Obligation requirements and volun-
teers generally. We operate five mornings a week with super-
vision provided by Lions members of the programme. Our
facilities are provided at peppercorn rates by the City of Red-
cliffe, the Police Citizen Youth Welfare Centre (Caboolture)
and by Queensland.
We received our first lensometer in 2000 and today we have
13 lensometer machines and 2 ultrasound cleaning machines
capable of cleaning 50 pair of spectacles at a time. Further
equipment will be sought as needed and to expand into specta-
cle making.
Our primary Centre is at Redcliffe where we have 6 lensome-
ter machines, operate 5 days a week with workers on Commu-
nity Service Orders, Work for the Dole and/or under mutual
obligation for welfare support. We also have a small number
of intellectually challenged persons on our work force.
Our Caboolture Centre, in the PCYC at Toovey Road Cabool-
ture, has operated since August 2006 and was officially
opened on 28 March 2007. The Centre currently operates three
days a week, primarily with Community Service workers. It
has three lensometers and hopefully we can purchase an ultra-
sound machine for this Centre in the near future.
We also have two Centres within Correctional Institutions.
The Helena Jones Half Way House (for women reintegrating
into the Community) and Numinbah Women's Correctional
Institution. Both of these Centres are manned by residents and
are supervised by longer term residents (selected by manage-
ment). These Centres generally operate on most days of the
week and each Centre is contributing 50,000 pair of graded
spectacles per annum. The Centres have two lensometer ma-
chines each and wash/clean the glasses manually.
Clearly, whilst we have added 6 lensometer machines in the
past few months, there is still a need for at least a further 5
machines plus an ultrasound machine for Numinbah at a cost
of $4600 for lensometer and $10,000 for ultrasound.

Collecting Projects in N2
Recently the N2 Clubs were surveyed by email about projects
where they collected items for other organisations. Forty-three
clubs reported they collected some of 5 different items, eye-
glasses, used stamps, corks, aluminium can ring pulls, and sta-
tionery & school items for the Solomon Islands.
Eyeglasses 35 clubs
Stamps 23 clubs
Corks 6 clubs
Ring pulls 1 club
School supplies 1 club
Seven clubs collected 3 of the 5 items with 6 clubs collecting
eyeglasses, stamps, and corks. Following are reports on these
collecting projects.
LIONS RECYCLE FOR SIGHT AUSTRALIA
Lions Recycle for Sight Australia Inc is part of the Lions Clubs
International Worldwide Eyeglass Recycling Programme, head-
quartered in Queensland and operating throughout Australia and
overseas in relation to the collection of 250,000 pair of used
spectacles, '000's sunglasses, new frames and other ancillary
equipment; on the distribution side the programme distributes
250,000 pair of regraded spectacles throughout the world (other
than Central America) to Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, Humanitar-
ian organisations for distribution to poor people in need at no
expense or obligation on the recipient. A new development for
us has been the distribution of sunglasses, not only for adults but
primarily so that whenever our regraded spectacles are distrib-
uted in a school or village in remotest Africa or Asia, every
child, whether they need prescription glasses or not receives a
gift from the Lions of Australia. No child misses out.
Over the 15 years that the Australian programme has existed, as
a two club project, the programme has delivered 2.5 million pair

Does this sound like a project your club can become involved
in? If so, then Ross Paine would love to hear from you. His
address is 10 Balgownie Drive, Peregian Springs, 4573 QLD or
by email at [email protected] . The more the merrier.
For clubs in N2, the nearest collection point is Ken Higgins, 25
Buena Vista Avenue, Lake Heights, 2502 NSW. You will find
postage will be a bit cheaper to send it direct to him rather than
to Ross Paine.
CORKS
The five N2 clubs on the coast that collect corks deliver them
to the receptionist at the Cancer Care Ward, Wollongong Hos-
pital.
CAN RING PULLS
One N2 club was collecting the ring pulls from aluminium cans
as they contain titanium, but this project has now ceased.
LIONS AUSTRALIA SPINAL CORD FELLOWSHIP
(LASCF)
Recent information was distributed by email to all N2 Clubs
about a new Lions partnership collecting project, ‗Recycling
with Sims Metal Management‘, which allows Lions to recycle
metal at Sims Metal Management Recycling Depots through-
out Australia, and have the proceeds deposited into the LASCF
bank account. Depot locations in or near the N2 area are at
Fyshwick, Kembla Grange, and Milperra. The email included
the addresses and phone numbers of the depots and the transac-

Our target is to reach 500,000 pair a year by 2010 and 1 million
pairs a year by 2015 as part of our commitment to Past Interna-
tional President Jimmy Ross's target for 2021.
Our second major sponsor, Dollar Sweet Mint Company of Mel-
bourne, who recently purchased International Mints Pty Ltd, is
providing substantial financial assistance for our overseas pro-
gramme. Their support will enable us to expand our distribution
of graded spectacles and enable us to present an Australian face
directly in the field of giving glasses to women, children and
men throughout the third world.
The gift of sight, from Lions Clubs in every corner of Australia
(and overseas) will be delivered by Australian Lions to the world
at large.
The project also acknowledges the great support of the Queen-
sland and Australian Governments through their grant pro-
grammes, the Redcliffe and Caboolture Shire Councils for their
leasing support, the Police Citizens Youth Welfare League of
Queensland for their premises, the Australian Lions Foundation
for its support and the Minister for and Department of Correc-

custody or on community service orders but mostly to the great

USED STAMPS RECYCLING
In 1991, the Australian members of Lions International Stamp
Club (LISC) met at the Brisbane International Convention and
decided to commence a used stamp project to recycle used post-
age stamps for charitable purposes.
The initial beneficiary of these stamps was the Royal Institute
for Deaf & Blind Children at North Rocks in Sydney. When that
project ended in 2004, some 10 million or 2 tonne of stamps had
been donated to the school.
At the same time, the Australian Chapter of LISC decided to
direct all future stamp donations towards raising funds for the
Australian Lions Childrens Mobility Foundation.
Since then these Lions have processed 1.2 tonne of stamps, rais-
ing almost $11200 in the process. The stamps are sorted into
Australian and foreign and sent to the NSW Philatelic Society
auctions in Sydney to be sold at their 4 monthly auctions. Every
stamp donated is sent to the auctions and every cent received is
handed over to ALCMF. The convenor of the project in NSW
and Queensland is Peregian Lion, Ross Paine. ―We are seeking
used stamps, both foreign and Australian with the stamp neatly
clipped from the envelope, leaving about 1/8‖ minimum to 1/4‖
maximum of paper around the stamp‖ he said. ―The stamps are
sold in 10 kilo lots and the buyers pay the top prices for the
boxes holding the neatly clipped stamps. If they see too much
paper around the stamps they won‘t bid for them and we are
stuck with them until we can either find the time to trim them
ourselves or someone comes along looking for a cheap buy – the
buyers are particularly looking for un-cancelled or very lightly
cancelled stamps‖ he said.
VALE: Lion David Taylor
Dave Taylor joined the Lions Club of Goulburn City in 1977,
and held many positions in the club during his 33 years as a
Lion. In his position as a solicitor he was very active on the Con-
stitution and By-laws Committee.
Lion Dave held the position of Bulletin Editor for many years
and served as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Vice Presidents of the club. Lion
Dave was President of the club in 1992 and again in 1998, and
he was instrumental in setting up the Art Union which still runs
successfully today.
Until recently Dave was a regular attendee at club meetings,
barbeques, and activities, but as his health began to deteriorate
he was seen less and less.
Goulburn City Lions will miss his ready wit, cheery smile, and
his freely given advice.

and the invaluable assistance of the Dalmeny Deviates.
Bill read out the names of 22 past Lions who are remembered
with the pavilion, with particular mention of the late Lion Bob
Carr, who had been actively involved in the construction proc-
ess. ―I am sure he is looking down telling us that we need an-
other nail here, or we missed a bit of paint there,‖ said Bill.
Past President, George Hogge regaled the audience with ac-
counts of the working bees with the Deviates, which often went
late into the night to complete the project.
More than four hundred hours of voluntary work by Narooma
Lions members went into the project, and countless more hours
from other community members to assist the club to complete
the pavilion.
Financial assistance was also received from many local groups
to make it a truly community project.
The pavilion will provide a sheltered place to gather and reflect
in relative comfort, holding about fifty people.
Eurobodalla Shire Mayor, Fergus Thomson congratulated the
Lions Club on once again seeing a need within the community
and providing a wonderful community asset.
Officially opening the pavilion, DG Warren Woods said all
club members should be extremely proud of providing a facil-
ity that would be so beneficial to their local community.

Blustery winds swept across the headland at the Narooma Ceme-
tery on Saturday afternoon, 14th August 2010, as the Lions Club
of Narooma and District officially opened the Narooma Lions
Memorial Cemetery Pavilion.
Among the members and guests who gathered to dedicate the
pavilion to the memory of some 22 past members of the Club
were Member for Bega, Mr Andrew Constance, MP, Eurobo-
dalla Shire Mayor, Fergus Thomson and Lions N201 District
Governor, Warren Woods.
Also welcomed to the opening were three former Lions ladies,
Liz Ferguson, Sandra Carr and Bermagui Lion Joan Robinson.
Some six years ago, the Lions responded to community sugges-
tions to provide a shelter where mourners could gather for ser-
vices, providing protection from the strong winds and inclement
weather which often prevail at the cemetery. The weather on
Saturday underscored the need for the pavilion, sheltering some
50 people for afternoon tea following the service.
Lion Bill Dudley provided a brief history of the project, from the
initial concept stage, to the fundraising efforts, which were sup-
ported by numerous community organizations, clubs and indi-
viduals.
When it became evident that grant money was not forthcoming
to complete the project, Lions simply rolled up their sleeves and
got the job done with the assistance of local builders and tradies
Support for brain injured
The Canberra Lake Tuggeranong Lions Club recently held a
dinner dance to raise funds for the ‗National Brain Injury
Foundation‘ (NBIF), which urgently requires a second special-
ised van to provide regular transport services for people with
brain injuries. To provide these services, the van requires an
hydraulic wheelchair lift and safety equipment. At a cost of
more than $60,000 for the new van, significant fundraising is
required to achieve their goal. Therefore, the NBIF was the
focus of fundraising at the Canberra Lake Tuggeranong‘s an-
nual dinner dance.

The Bega Lions Club celebrated their 50th Charter Anniversary
on 20th November 2010 at the Homestead Function Centre,
Brogo, at which Lion Peter Wiley received an LCIF Melvin
Jones Fellowship.
―The Bega Lions Club was founded in 1960 when a group of
local men decided that they could benefit their community by
joining the International Association of Lions Clubs.
The inaugural Bega Lions meeting was held on November 28
that year and their immediate objective was to help their local-
ity become a better place to inhabit. The culmination of these
initial moves came on March 25, 1961, when the Bega Lions
Club was presented with its Charter by District Governor Roy
Geraghty. There were 23 Charter members. Bega become the
171st [Lions Club] on the Australian register and now there are
more then 1400 clubs throughout the country.
The first service project attempted by the club was the partial
restoration of the old Bega Hospital, which at the time, was
being used as the Boys‘ Hostel.
From a quite modest beginning, Bega Lions have been able to
stamp the club‘s identity on many worthwhile humanitarian,
charitable and community undertakings. The ingenuity of the
original members saw the growing and harvesting of crops, the
conducting of competitions, participating in the promotion of
circuses, barbeques and fairs and innumerable other activities
that ensured a financial stability for the future.‖
Current Bega Lions Club President Keith Underhill stated,
―The Bega Lions Club is excited to be celebrating the 50th
anniversary of our Club Charter in November 1960. I have the
honour of being the 50th Club President, but our membership,
both past and present have had the honour of serving our com-
munity locally, nationally and internationally over the past 50
years.
In providing this community service we have relied on not only
the generosity of our members but the great support that has
been offered by many business house and contractors, and the
generosity of the people of the Bega Valley.
Over the 50 years our club has had a wide range of projects,
both large and small. In the 1960s Bega Lions provided man-
power to assist with a major fodder shipment gifted bu Bega
farmers to the farmers of the Kempsey area following devastat-
ing floods. Hay was trucked to the railhead at Nimmitabel,
loaded on to rail carriages for the trip to the Kempsey area.
The club is proud of the assets we have helped to provide to the
community like the Bega walking/cycling track and the skate
bowl. Much hard work and fundraising also helped to establish
Tulgeen. Equally important are the small projects that have
helped countless numbers of people who have had some spe-
cial need. Bega Lions continue to donate funds to a large num-
ber of charities and organisations in the Bega Valley.
Our Charter members committed the Bega Lions to serving the
community with pride for the past 50 years. Our members to-
day are equally committed, beginning the next 50 years of
serving our community.‖

The ACT Minister for Disability, Joy Burch, said, ―The new
vehicle for the foundation will make a significant difference to
the quality of life of so many, for whom basic things such as
getting to a doctor‘s appointment or out on an excursion can be
very difficult.‖
Lions Club Director Adrian Nicholls said that the club‘s annual
dinner dance raised funds for a different charity each year with
$10,000 being raised last year to assist Pegasus Riding for the
Disabled, and he hoped this year‘s dinner dance would be as
successful for the National Brain Injury Foundation. The enter-
tainment for this years dinner dance was provided by comedian
Anh Do and local band Annie and the Armadillos.

for a year or so, as it was becoming harder to serve the needs of
the community. Gradually membership has grown and number

session which all enjoyed. The District can be very proud of
these young adults who I am sure will represent the District
well.
As an adjunct to this report, N2 has had currently only one
application to host incoming youth in the December and
January program and that was from the Woods family from
the Lions Club of Tathra. The New Zealand incoming hoist-

DG Warren presents medal
Late on Saturday night 11th September 2010, one of the
members of the Canberra Lake Tuggeranong Lions Club
had an epileptic seizure and was found by his son William,
who took the situation in hand, and had the insight to ring
his mother for help.
William is 23 and also a member of the Lake Tuggeranong
Lions Club. What is outstanding is that he has an intellectual
disability and was able to remain calm and in control during
this crisis. Lion William showed maturity and care at this
difficult time.
William currently has the title of ‘Chief Right Hand Man‘
on his dinner badge as he is the Secretary‘s Assistant at

Guiding Lion workshop
On 6th October 2010 a ―Guiding Lion & New Clubs Work-
shop‖ was held in Goulburn, with the purpose to build the
membership skills of N2 Zone Chairpersons, Club Membership
Committee members, and other interested N2 members. The
workshop was attended by 17 participants and delivered by 5
trainers, with DG Warren Woods participating throughout day.
The first session of the workshop reviewed the LCI Guiding
Lion Program to help the participants complete their individual
reviews to be submitted to DG Warren and then to LCI. The
successful participants will receive a ‗Certified Guiding Lion‘
certificate from LCI. During the second session the partici-
pants and trainers broke up into discussion groups based on our
6 Regions to identify localities that new Lions, Lioness, Leos,
Campus, or Club Branch clubs might established. The delibera-
tions of each Region group were discussed in a general session
with a number of localities, club types, and further steps being
identified.
The initial aim is to replace the 4 clubs that handed in their
Charters during the past year, but not necessarily in the same
localities, then to establish new clubs within N2.

Lionsonoz Knitting
Australian Lionsonoz is proud of their knit-
ting project. Knitted items are stored and
then sent by private means to orphaned chil-
dren in various parts of South Africa. The
most satisfying part of this project is that
they are receiving proof that the children to
whom the articles are meant for are defi-
nitely getting them. The method used to get
these articles to the children must remain
confidential.
The Lionsonoz ladies, while sitting in the
passenger‘s seat of their vehicle enjoying the
sights of Australia are busy with their knitting needles making beanies and
jumpers for these children who definitely need them as well as knitted toys for
children who are recently orphaned and need something to comfort them. The
South African children have different needs than children in our country. Be-
cause of the head lice problems almost all children have shaved heads and so
beanies are needed particularly on cold nights. We seem to think that South Af-
rica is hot and humid. The truth is that it can become quite cold and so jumpers
are needed as well.
Lion Betty-Anne White (photo below), the Lionsonoz Knitting coordinator, has
been receiving knitted goods from the Lionsonoz ladies on a regular basis but
she was pleasantly surprised recently to receive a bundle of beanies and jumpers
from Lion Irene Larner of Seymour in Victoria. Lion Irene became aware of this
project through an article in the ―Lion‖ and so decided to knit these articles for
the Lionsonoz effort and send them to
Lion Betty-Anne. As well as Lionsonoz
and Lions members, knitted articles are
being received from Rotarian ladies in
Tamworth. This is a great humanitarian
effort enjoyed by a huge number of ladies.
Knitted items may be sent to:

Kiama Lions launch “the
Children’s Audio Theatre”
At the 2010 N2 District Convention in Nowra, the Kiama
Lions Club launched a new project that may be of interest to
many in the Lions family, especially those with young chil-
dren or grandchildren, and perhaps more importantly, for
visually impaired children.
There is abundant visual entertainment for children on tele-
vision, even a number of special children‘s channels, but
there aren‘t any of the ‗children‘s classics‘ as audio enter-
tainment on radio or CD.
The Kiama Lions Club has decided to remedy this situation
by producing audio books on CD. The club has established
“The Children’s Audio Theatre” to provide full cast drama-
tisations of classic children‘s stories, created by Lions and
community volunteers as the characters and editors.
The Children‘s Audio Theatre is a community cultural pro-
ject sponsored by one of Australia‘s largest Lions Clubs. As
part of the Kiama Lions Club‘s service to our community,
copies of these children‘s classics will be provided free of
charge to the twelve (12) ‗Radio for the Print Handi-
capped‘ (RPH) stations, ‗Community Radio Stations‘ and
organisations affiliated with ‗Vision Australia‘.
Lion Ken Methold, a
member of the Kiama
Lions Club, is the crea-
tive talent behind this
project. He brings ex-
tensive experience to
this project, as a profes-
sional radio dramatist
and producer for the
ABC and the BBC, as
well as having educa-
tional broadcasting ex-
perience.
We would like to inform
the Lions family of the
availability of these new
audio book productions,
and give them the first
chance to purchase our
initial productions, The
Adventures of Blinky
Bill (an Australian clas-
sic) and The Story of Dr
Dolittle. Each full cast
dramatisation, with mu-
sic and sound effects, is
recorded in MP3 format and is over two hours in duration,
divided into ten minute episodes, and is available for $14.95
per CD.
Profits from this project will be distributed to appropriate
children‘s charities.

Jozo Frankovic used his parents as
inspiration in his moving speech on
heroes to win the Corrimal heat of the
Lions Club Youth of the Year Quest
last week.
The 15-year-old Holy Spirit College
student won the local heat over three
competitors in his first ever public
speaking appearance.
The quest was designed to encourage
student interest in leadership and the
qualities required to take an active and
constructive role in the community.
Competitors are judged on their school
performance, work in the community
and two speeches, one impromptu and
one prepared.
It was his prepared speech that Jozo
believed put him in winning conten-
tion. ―I just thought of all the important
figures – parents, soldiers, police, and
the important role they play,‖ he said.
―My parents especially, just the way
they‘ve raised me.‖
Jozo was also recognised for his strong
performance at school and his work
with the Croatian Catholic community
where he takes part in the youth group
and the band. He said he hadn‘t gone
into the competition expecting to win,
especially when up against three other
impressive speakers.
―It was a bit daunting. It was a bit of a
surprise but a good surprise.‖ Jozo will
next compete in the quest regional fi-
nals in February and isn‘t ruling our
more public speaking competitions in
the future.
―I‘m just taking it as it comes,‖ he said.

Club or Clubs of a Convention shall make application in writing
to the Cabinet Secretary at least sixty (60) days prior to the date
fixed for the Convention at which the decision will be made. Each
such application shall set out particulars of the proposals and the
Club or Clubs reasons for considering the same to be suitable and
shall be considered by the Convention.
(b) Club or clubs endorsed/.....
Explanation:
1. The District Constitution as it currently stands only permits
individual Clubs to nominate as the Convention host Club.
2. The reality is that most Host Clubs seek the support / assis-
tance of the Clubs in their surrounding area to run a District Con-
vention.
3. If a Zone or group of surrounding Clubs wish to collec-
tively and formally apply together to Host a District Convention
they are prevented from doing so with the current 201N2 Consti-
tution.
4. This Constitutional change will allow Club‘s to formally
do what has been happening informally for a number of years.
5. The change will not create any additional Convention run-
ning costs to the District and or Host Clubs.

GENERAL NOTICES OF MOTION
NM1 Submitted by the Lions Club of Bundanoon
That this District Convention approves the adoption of the flashID
Emergency Identification System Project as a District 201N2 Pro-
ject and that the project be reviewed at the district 201N2 Conven-
tion in 2013.
Amendment to motion that the Logo go on the promotional mate-
rial.
Explanation:
The flashiD Emergency Identification System was unanimously
adopted as a Club Project in June, 2009. Since that time, most
Clubs in the District have become aware of the Project and several
have signed up as participants.
The flashiD Emergency Identification System is based on a USB
(Continued from page 18) device that is pre-loaded with a Microsoft Word document
that is pre-formatted to record the key identification and
medical details of the device's owner. The device itself is
available in three models, but all carry the distinctive — and
trademarked — flashID logo, which comprises the interna-
tionally recognised emergency symbol of a white cross on a
green background, to which has been added the flashID name.
The Word document contains detailed instructions to enable
the owner of the device to complete the document, disclosing
as much information as feels comfortable to the owner of the
device. There is no external database, so the owner of the
device also owns the information contained therein and is at
all times in control of such information.
Medical opinion is unanimous in the importance of accurate
identification and key medical information being
available at the time of any emergency admission to a hospi-
tal or other medical facility.
Lions Clubs may participate in the Project at two levels:
1. Passive, in which the Club merely signs an agreement
and in return receives a nominal commission on any orders
placed with flashID, and nominating the buyers' support for
that Club.
2. Active, in which Clubs, after assenting to a Non-
Disclosure Agreement, are able to buy flashID at wholesale
prices for resale to members and to the general public.
The Passive level allows Clubs to assess the potential of the
Project without any financial commitment, while the Active
level enables the Club to embrace the project more fully and
to earn substantial margins, which may then be applied to
community causes of their choosing. We have also found that
some Clubs use these profits to enable them to provide
flashID free, or at reduced cost, where there is seen to be a
clear need, but the recipient has not the ability to pay the full
price. This Club has exhibited the flashID Project at District,
Multiple District and International Conventions. At all
levels, interest has been high, as a result of which Clubs from
within N2, elsewhere in NSW and interstate, have signed up
as participants, and there has also been considerable interest
in licensing the concept internationally.
Bundanoon Lions Club seeks the adoption of this Project by
District N2 as a vital step towards the eventual adoption of
the Project as a Multiple District Project at the earliest oppor-
tunity, to the benefit of all Australians, and especially those
who are at risk through existing medical conditions, or their
involvement in potentially hazardous occupations, sports and
other pastimes.
The high visibility thus obtained, will also promote further
positive impressions of the Lions brand within the wider com-
munity, with Lions Clubs, Lioness Clubs, and Leo Clubs able
to use this project as a fundraiser or as a community project.
Organisational Details:
1. The owner of this project is the Bundanoon Lions
Club, which will assume control and responsibility for sales
to all Lions Clubs and associated organisations Australia-
wide.
2. The owner of the Intellectual Property rights of
flashID is a member of Bundanoon Lions Club and the
Chairman and Operations Director of FlashID International
Pty Limited (hereinafter referred to as "The Company", which
imports and markets the flashiD Emergency Identification
System.
3. Upon the adoption of this as a District Project, a

Memorandum of Understanding will outline the
responsibilities of all key organisations participating in the
Project.
Management Details:
1. The Lions Club of Bundanoon Inc. (hereinafter re-
ferred to as "the Managing Club") shall undertake the
management of Lions' participation in this Project.
2. The Company shall be responsible for the promotion,
ordering and distribution of the devices to all Lions Clubs that
participate in this Project at the Active level.
3. For the time being, The Managing Club shall be re-
sponsible for the general management and financial
administration of this District Project and the Club shall ap-
point a Committee, with membership as deemed appropriate
by District Cabinet.
4. The Managing Club shall submit such written and ver-
bal progress reports as are required by District Cabinet
Financial Implications:
As outlined above, Clubs participating at the Passive level are
not required to outlay any funds, while those that choose to
participate at the Active level are able to buy single units at
one time, for an outlay of less than $50.

Convention Chairman
It is my pleasure to report that the District Convention held at
the Bomaderry Bowling Club on 8th, 9th & 10th October was a
great success and I believe a credit to my own Club Nowra,
ably assisted by Shoalhaven Lioness and Bomaderry Lions
Club. During the weekend we had 266 Registrations with 230
attending the Gala Dinner on Saturday night.
The Informal Reception held immediately after the Official
Opening was organized by Shoalhaven Lioness, and I con-
gratulate Lioness President Delma and her girls on the profes-
sional way in which they controlled the food.
Breakfasts on Saturday and Sunday mornings was well sup-
ported by 90 & 80 early risers respectively, with the catering
provided by Bomaderry Lions and again, well organized and
controlled.
My thanks to the Committee and other members and partners
who all worked as a team and carried our their allocated du-
ties with efficiency and enthusiasm. My personal thanks to
Lion David Robson and Cabinet Secretary Peter Howe, who
attended all our Committee meetings and had great input into
the successful organization of the event.
The Opening Flag Ceremony conducted by Lion Bruce
Spender, ably assisted by the Leo‘s was done with military
precision and was very impressive.
Thanks also to Lions Lady Judy Woods for a very moving
Remembrance Ceremony and PDG Paul Helmling for the
Closing Flag Ceremony.
Lioness Heather Howe was very happy with her Forum group
of 24 Lioness, representing all 6 Clubs in the District, and the
facilities provided by the Club in the Snooker Room. The Leo
Forum in the Board Room would have been very comfortable
also for Lion Jaafar and his Leos also.
I thank District Governor Warren and the Cabinet for their
support and input into the presentations.
The theme of the Convention ―Youth our Future‖ was well
chosen and supported by keynote speaker Father Chris Riley,
along with the Leo presentations, Glenn Isemonger and Lloyd
Worthy.
All in all, the Convention went well and I acknowledge all
who participated in its success.
I wish Gungahlin Club and Committee Chairman Lion
George Fox every success for a successful Convention in
2011.

Firstly, I would like to thank
District Governor Warren
Woods, his District Conven-
tion Committee and All Li-
ons, Lioness and Leos for the support of tthe Leo Presentation
at the District Convention on 9 October 2010.
It was a privilege to attend the Convention and give an Over-
view of the International and MD201 Leo Club Program and
work with you District Leo Chairman, Jaafar Tabandeh and
Warilla High School Principal, Mr. Glenn Isemonger.
At the Convention, I also had the Opportunity to attend a suc-
cessful Leo Forum, chaired by 201N2 District Leo President,
Ebby Tabandeh from Canberra Lake Tuggeranong Leo Club.
It was great to hear of the achievements of our Inspirational
Leos and I would particularly like to Congratulate Canberra
Lake Tuggeranong Leo Club on being named Best Leo Club
in 2009/10 by 201N2
IPDG Paul Helmling in his Report to Convention. I would
also like to thank All Members of Canberra Lake Tugger-
anong Leo Club for their kind gift of a Club T-Shirt which I
will wear with Pride. It is always a pleasure to work with such
an inspirational group of Leos.
At the Convention, I was also honoured to meet 2 Leos from
Taralga, who are now Members of Canberra Lake Tugger-
anong Leo Club as part of the Remote Area Leo Club Pro-
gram. They have only been Members for a Short Time and
have already attended a District Convention. Truly Inspira-
tional!!!
On 30 August 2010, I was honoured to Welcome District
Governor Warren and Judy Woods, Cabinet Secretary Peter
Howe and Lioness Chairman Heather Howe to Ambarvale
High School for the Charter Presentation of the Newest Leo
Club in 201N2. The Ceremony was well attended by Mem-
bers of the Sponsoring Lions Club of Campbelltown City
Inc., Parents and School Representatives and Official Guests
including Hon. Phil Costa MP, NSW Minister for Water and
Corrective Services and State Member for Wollondilly. DG
Warren Presented the Charter to Leo Club President, Natalie
West and Installed the Leo Club Officers. Campbelltown City
Lions Club President, David Snape, Presented President Nata-
lie with the Leo Club's Gong, Gavel and Banner.
I would like to thank All Members of the Lions Club of
Campbelltown City Inc. for the Opportunity to Serve as Leo
Club Advisor and work with these Inspirational Young Peo-
ple. The Leo Club currently has 24 Members including 2 New
Members that have joined since the Charter Presentation.
With the ongoing support of All Districts throughout MD201,
we now have 86 Registered Leo Clubs with LCI with a fur-
ther 5 Leo Club in the Process of Chartering. This represents
a 16% Increase since the 2010 MD201 Convention in Mildura
in May. Always remember, there is no Greater Satisfaction in
Lions than encouraging our Youth between 12 - 30 to serve
their Community. It only requires 10 Enthusiastic Young Peo-
ple and a Committed Lions Club to Form a Leo Club!!
So if you Club is considering Sponsoring a Leo Club - Stop
Considering and Do It!!! Your Club, your Members and the
Community will Benefit!
Say G'DAY to a Leo today!!!

had all 6 clubs represented, at the forum, with 23 Lioness, 1
Lion Liaison, 1 PDG, 2 interested Lions, DG Warren and
DGE Geoff all attend. A wonderful roll up. Congratulations
to Shoalhaven Lioness for taking out the Best Lioness Club
for 2009-10.
Many thanks to Bomaderry Bowling club for looking after us
so well with the room set up and provision of lunch, right
down to the white table cloths – all very much appreciated.
We all enjoyed catching up with our sisters in Lioness, as
well as refreshing and updating some basics.
It was wonderful to hear of the great community service and
fundraising projects that all the Lioness are working on. DGE
Lion Geoff was blown away with what the Lioness achieve.
Saturday night saw Camden and Eden girls whipping up a
storm on the dance floor till very late in the night, and they
didn‘t miss a beat turning up on time, bright eyed for Sun-
day‘s session.
Those who were at convention heard, next year I will be hold-
ing a different position, however, I am not deserting the Lion-
ess ship in any way, as was rumoured, but will look forward
to supporting Lioness Kay Hardy, who will succeed me. I
know that all our Lioness and Lions will give Lioness Kay as
much support and encouragement as I have been given, both
from club level and district.
I have been privileged to have been given the opportunity by
3 Governors to serve the Lioness as District Chairman and I
look forward to more outstanding results before the year is
over.
We have a wonderful band of dedicated and passionate N2
Lioness. Keep up the good work, and, continue to do what
Lioness do best – We Serve, too.
