Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? This is an example of a convention that I have used, I have chosen to use this masthead design because it is easily recognizable and distinctive which stands out from other magazines. The black is a bold, strong, significant col+our, and this is what I believe my magazine in terms of music is representing and showcasing. I have challenged conventions here by using a more childish, playful font for my front covers cover lines. In comparison to the more bold, adult font used on the other magazine. I have done this because it suggests that the artist is rule breaking, different and against the mainstream type of music that other magazines represent. My magazine is trying to portray and give out a fresh, new type of music to the general public.

Question 1: In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

This is an example of a convention that I have used, I have chosen to use this masthead design because it is easily recognizable and distinctive which stands out from other magazines. The black is a bold, strong, significant col+our, and this is what I believe my magazine in terms of music is

representing and showcasing.

I have challenged conventions here by using a more childish, playful font for my front covers cover lines. In comparison to the more bold, adult font used on the other magazine. I have done this because it suggests that the artist is rule breaking, different and against the mainstream type of music that other magazines represent. My magazine is trying to portray and give out a fresh, new type of music to the

general public.

I have again challenged conventions here by making my quote small, neat and tidy, in comparison to big and bold. The tidiness shows us that

he likes everything to be in order and down to the ground, but at the same time that he is in charge and the quote gives

us the impression that he very much thinks that he is the person to beat.

This is a convention that I have adopted, as my cover star is looking directly in to the camera with little emotion on his face. I have chosen to adopt this to show boldness and character, as this is the type of image I want my magazine to represent

and uphold in the media world.

I have developed on this convention by using the same layout roughly as NME magazine. But i have tweaked and alternated a couple of areas, such as the colour scheme to make it look more simple and bold to give the image that my magazine is straight to the point. The black on white is

very powerful as they are contrasting shades and they fit together very well§ and also uphold the image of the magazine well.

I have gone against the usual convention of only having 2/3 sections and gone for 4 instead. Having the ‘NEWS’ and ‘FEATURES’ columns as the main pieces and building the rest of the contents page from these points. The information to the right and left of these columns gives it a professional view and appearance. This works as the colour scheme still upholds the image that I wanted to create about being rebellious and against the norm.
