WHAT KIND OF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT

DISTRIBUTE YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT AND WHY?

BY ASHLEY HAMILTON

20TH CENTURY FOX• They have produced action films in the past, such as Taken, so are more likely to

distribute my media product as my genre is action as well.

• Some of their actions films open without action, and sometimes with enigma, in order to encourage the audience to find out more. My opening sequence doesn’t contain any action, but instead creates enigma, so 20th Century Fox will be likely to distribute my media product.

• They use the conventions I have used, such as a production company at the beginning of the opening sequence, as opposed to the end.

• 20th Century Fox distribute within the UK, so people within my country will be able to watch my product, and will be more likely to relate to it more than other countries. 20th Century Fox distribute worldwide, so my product will be able to have a large audience from different backgrounds and interests.

UNIVERSAL STUDIOS• They have produced action films in the past, such as Battleship, so

will be more likely to distribute my media product as it is of the action genre.

• Their production company title is shown at the beginning of the opening sequence and the name links to their titles, with their name being universal and their opening title being a globe. My opening sequence does this as well, with my production company being called Shatter Films, and with a glass shattering effect being used.

• Universal Studios distribute within the UK, so people within my country will be able to watch my product, and will be more likely to relate to it more than other countries. Universal Studios distribute worldwide, so my product will be able to have a large audience from different backgrounds and interests.

WARNER BROS. PICTURES• They have produced action films in the past, such as The Matrix, so are likely

to distribute my product as it is of the action genre.

• In some of their films, like the Matrix, it opens with enigma as it’s never explained why certain things happen and who certain characters are. In my opening sequence, it uses enigma as the characters background and reasons are never explained to the audience. This entices the audience to want to watch to find out more.

• Warner Brothers distribute within the UK, so people within my country will be able to watch my product, and will be more likely to relate to it more than other countries. Warner Brothers distribute worldwide, so my product will be able to have a large audience from different backgrounds and interests.

ARTIFICIAL EYEArtificial Eye are a distributor that operate exclusively in the UK. As my media product is made in the UK, everyone who views it will be able to relate to it wherever it is distributed, as opposed

to an American distributor, where viewings will not have an understanding or connection to the culture. As it is a smaller

distribution company, they are more likely to have access to or take interest in independent productions like mine, as larger distributors usually align themselves with larger production

companies.

ENTERTAINMENT FILM DISTRIBUTORSEntertainment Film Distributors operate exclusively in the UK, so the viewers will be able to relate to the culture of my product a lot more, and will be able to relate to the main character a lot easier. Entertainment Film Distributors also distribute independent films, so are more likely to take interest in an independent film like mine, rather than a large distributor like Paramount who mainly work with larger production companies.
