This week here at Rampage headquarters; we have been working hard to bring the newest and coolest artists and bands into the palm of your hands. It’s been an exciting week meeting lots of new artists that haven’t been featured in our magazine. Our

interviewer, Katie Norris, said that she had a great time interviewing Carly Evans and Jenna Ray. I enjoyed reading it so hopefully you will too. In next week’s edition, we will cramming the magazine with the latest cover of the MOBO awards, which are taking place on Sat-urday the 14th of January. I would like to take this time to introduce our latest member to join the Rampage team. Trainee editor, Jesse Gilbert, who will be filling the editor’s column with everything you will need to know. Be sure to let me know what you think of this week’s issue on Facebook, Twitter or our website. Happy Reading!

So before the interview has even started, Jenna Ray and Carly Evans are already hav-ing a debate about who is

the better singer. Jenna and Carly are both sat on a sofa opposite me wearing similar clothing with a cof-fee in their hands. They don’t seem to notice me until I say…

Katie Norris: So I take it you guys argue quite a lot then?

Jenna and Carly both turn to face towards me smiling apologetically.

Jenna: Sorry, yeah your right (laughs). It is pretty much like this whenever were together. Especial-ly in the studio. We have our little moments, but then again who doesn’t?

Carly: Well to be honest, consider-ing were usually trying to compete against each other in the charts to get to number one, then going from that to creating a song to-gether, I think we don’t do too bad eh Jenna. (turns to look at Jenna whilst chuckling)

Katie Norris: Whose idea was it to call who about doing a song together? Did you not worry about being rejected or it not work-ing out?

Carly: Well I was the one who was sitting at home think-ing to myself ‘I want to do a col-laboration with someone’. Then it came to mind that it might be interesting to see what some-one of the same genre of music could come up with if I worked with them. That’s when I de-cided to ask Jenna. Rejection isn’t something that worries me. There’s no harm in trying I guess.

Katie Norris: It’s inter-esting that you chose Jenna seeing as like you said earlier, you are usually competing against each other. But I suppose if you wanted someone from the same genre then that must have worked

We have sent out our reporter, Katie Norris, to find out what

quite well. Jenna what were your thoughts when you got the call from Carly?

Jenna: When I got the call at first I was like ‘wait, have you called the right person? (Laughing) I think the first thing I said was ‘I’ll have to get back to you on that one’ be-cause I was a bit shocked that Carly of all people wanted me to work with her. After about a good half an hour of thinking though, I just thought I had nothing to lose.

Both girls are still smiling whilst Carly takes a swig of her coffee and places it on the table to sit back against the sofa cross legged. Jenna is still sitting slightly on the edge of the sofa with her coffee in her hands.

Katie Norris: Moving on to the song itself. What made you chose the name of it to be ‘Nothing but trouble’?

Jenna goes to speak first but Carly butts in before she can say a full word…

Carly: Oi you, it’s my go!

Jenna and Carly both giggle and Jenna sarcastically apologises smil-ing.

Carly: Just kidding, but I’ll carry on anyway. We got the idea obviously after writing the song together. The songs about that kinda typi-cal guy girls stereotype. The guy is seen as a bit of a player and he comes into their lives and just gives them ‘nothing but trouble’. And that’s where we got the name from.

Jenna: It’s definitely a title which is straight to the point. Which rep-resent us both in a way really. We did come up with it in about 20 minutes, but that was only be-cause we knew as soon as we said it that it was the best title to suit the song.

Carly: You’re not supposed to say it only took us 20 minutes. Can you edit that to like two days or some-thing?

I raise my eyebrows trying not to laugh, but reassure them that anyone reading wouldn’t mind them taking 20 minutes choosing a song title and would rather the interview not be edited.

Jenna: That’s okay then. Anyone who is reading this and is both-ered by us taking 20 minutes on a song choice can just go spend two days trying to think of one for our song anyway. Screw them.

Jenna and Carly start laughing again.

Katie Norris: You obviously both have fans. What do you think they think of you both doing a song together? Is it good views or bad?

Carly: All of my fans have support-ed the fact I’ve done a collabora-tion with Jenna. Usually I think our fans are quite sided to either one or the other of us. But they seem to have pushed their differences aside and come together as a massive fan group. I thought there would be riots everywhere espe-cially on social networking sites like twitter and Facebook.

Jenna: There are still a few that start little arguments and debates with each other on my twitter page. One comment leads to another and next thing you know there’s a disagreement between 500 different people. Most of the time it’s good though. For example the other day we did a gig in New York and the feedback was great!

Jenna pulls out her mobile and starts tapping and scrolling the screen.

Jenna: Ah here we go.

She hands me the phone which has a tweet on it saying ‘That was

5 MINUTE FACTS

JENNA CARLY

Here are some fun and interesting facts that we think you’ll love to hear about Jenna and Carly.

At age 9, Jenna played the character Dorathy in the local school play

Jenna used to get lost whilst shopping with her mum, only to be found in the toy section

In a year, Jenna spends around £200 on drumsticks due to breaking so many!

Carly’s first ever pet was a chameleon named Gordon

On the way to a gig last year, Carly ended up at the wrong venue twice!

Spiders and small confined spaces are Carly’s worst fears

one of the best gigs ever! These two singing together is the best thing to happen in music’ followed by a smiley face. I hand the phone back to Jenna.

Katie Norris: Wow, must be great to have feedback like that and know that your fans support you

Carly: I was a little bit concerned that some of our fans might have disowned us when they heard we were joining forces. But then I think they wouldn’t be true fans if they did. Those who don’t like the song should just leave it at that and leave those who do alone to enjoy it.

Katie Norris: What are the plans for you both now individually for the next year?

Jenna: I’ve got a large amount of gigs all set up at the moment. Many of them are in London and around the UK. I hope to head around Europe afterwards though and go travelling.

Carly: America is where i’m head-ing in about a month or so. It’s always been a dream of mine to go and visit there but I might hold a few gigs and see if I get big over there. Might even be tempted to stay if all goes well!

Katie Norris: Wow, big plans ahead for you both then. Good luck with all of that. So Jenna now that you know what it is like to collaborate with someone, would you consider looking out for someone to col-

laborate with in the future other than Carly?

Jenna: I’d never worked with anyone else before on a song. I’d always been a pure solo artist. However now i’ve had the chance to work with Carly I think my perspective has changed. Being more creative and adventureous with music is something i’m going to do more of. So watch out in the future!

Katie Norris: Did you enjoy work-ing together in the end?

Jenna: It was a roller-coaster of ups and downs. Mostly ups. At one point I thought we were going kill each other. It was always over little things. It’s funny when I look back on them. It’d be something like who wanted to sing what parts or who got more publicity than the other. Kind of like earlier before we started. If we ever got asked if we would work together again I’d say yes though. What about you Carls?

Carly: Yeah I’d say yes. I think it is always good to continue to work with people who you have worked with in the past. Maybe next time we could even experiment more with different styles. But only if you stop calling me Carls!

We all laugh as the interview comes to an end. I thank Carly and Jenna as they finish another small debate on nicknames before they

“Watch out in the future!”

say their goodbyes and head to the door.
